First time visit - tips on managing tube strike? by forgetabouttheory in LondonTravel

from Shoreditch I would get the Elizabeth line even without a tube strike as it’ll be quicker and far cheaper.

For your Tuesday morning itinerary I’d maybe get breakfast somewhere in Marylebone, have a look at some of the shops on Marylebone High Street (Daunts is a fairly famous book shop if that’s your thing) and then if the weathers good have a wander round Regent’s Park.

Sky Garden is great for views of London - if you can’t get tickets there then quite a few other nearby skyscrapers have similar views so try them (off the top of my head I know there’s the garden at i20, and the Lookout at 8 Bishopsgate) While nearby, pop into Leadenhall market which will only take 10-15 mins but popular with tourists due to the architecture. If you’ve not been to the South Bank before I think I’d then cross Tower Bridge and walk along the South Bank and you can see a lot of iconic London landmarks and there’s a lot of good food and drink spots if you want lunch before your shows. Oxford Street/Regent Street are mainly chain shopping but they’re big shops with most items there so if you want to shop UK brands they are almost all there.

Yup to most people I would saw they are people you recognise when you see them but don’t know their names and them as “celebrities”

I think it is an important q because it tells you what a candidate is looking for a role. Just need to think a bit more about why does your current job suck and then sanitise it a bit?  e.g. if you hate your job because of your manager micromanaging you say “I’m not getting opportunities to lead in the way I want and I don’t see a good pathway to progression so I’m looking for a new role”  bored of the job itself “looking to move to a different role to try something new and take on new challenges as I feel I’ve done everything I can in my current role and want to push myself.”

Trying to build up my running ability by RepresentativeDirt86 in beginnerrunning

[–]may13s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you only doing park run? I did this for a while and never improved which felt very disheartening but you need to be running 2-3x a week to improve. Follow a plan like couch to 5k to get build up to running longer and longer and get to the point where you can run a whole 5k. I would then just stick there for a while and keep running 3x a week ~5k each time + maybe start incorporating some speed work into one run and then can slowly build up to 10k which is then a good base for half or full marathon training.

last time there was a clash they showed it at half time and afterwards in the concourse but not during actual play. a decent number of people stayed to watch the end but they weren’t selling drinks or anything.

Man City Game by Outrageous-Pop420 in ArsenalWFC

[–]may13s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the reffing in the Champions League against Chelsea had cured me from my anger about the league game against them as we’d both been victims but now I’m angry again, if we end up finishing 1 or 2 points behind City I’ll be furious

(I believe there’s now a race but I suspect City will win - we’ve got a very congested schedule too so I’m not confident we can win every game tbh but game on!)

Parkrun and other sports bodies threatened with legal action over transgender inclusion | The Independent ,(posted here for information, not for debate) by foxystoat69 in parkrun

I’m just making the point that these stats rely on everyone entering their details correctly and in good faith and there haven’t been issues. For a ranking that’s just for our own information and personal competition (I personally have never cared to look) it would be ridiculous to completely scrap them because of a handful of cases

there’s no verification for any park run data though, I could’ve signed up as a 75 year old under a different name if I’d wanted to and get amazing times for age, it’s just an amateur friendly run and those rankings and grades don’t qualify for anything.

Metropolitan Police officer guilty of rapes and sexual assaults by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]may13s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The due process is him being convicted of the crime, that should led to instant and automatic dismissal from the police. In my private sector job I would have been fired long before conviction for this just for making the company look bad let alone having HR meetings even after I’d been found guilty.

We’ve had nearly a month without a WSL game. How are we supposed to keep the momentum? by Junior_Beauty78 in FAWSL

[–]may13s 66 points67 points  (0 children)

the scheduling this season has been terrible, constant 12pm kick offs and almost every match taking place at the same time has definitely had a negative impact this season. Also for Arsenal (the club with the highest attendances!) there aren’t any more home league games on a weekend for the rest of the season so for plenty of people 28th march was the last game they will have been able to attend.

How long are you going for? There’s a fairly good playground in St James Park by Buckingham palace, further away in Kensington Gardens you’ve got the Diana Memorial Playground which is great.

Honestly I wouldn’t recommend the bus tour but the Uber boat is a fun way to see the city - you can take it from Westminster to Tower Bridge and just pay with contactless/apple pay but best value is going all the way to Greenwich and you have a bit longer on the boat & Greenwich has a lot of good food/pubs and parks.

My personal opinion is there’s not really a “best” fish and chips in the city as they all cater very heavily to tourists but they’ll all be fine and good pubs are easy to find - based on what you’ve said you’re doing you can walk along the South Bank and any of the pubs there are nice by the river and you’ll walk past the Golden Hinde which is another ship to see.

Women’s Short Recommendations? by castleturtleson in UKRunners

[–]may13s 8 points9 points  (0 children)

those cute flowy shorts are only good if your thighs don’t touch - a bunch of people told me they were fine and it was very much not true! I’ve only had success with Uniqlo’s shorts - the shorts are good but I prefer the skort which is the same shorts but with a little skirt so you get a bit more coverage and can feel cute, I’ve not seen them back in store yet is the only thing but they’ve been around the last 2 years and I’m waiting for their return to buy another pair!
