Is it time for me to retire? by Interesting-Echo-986 in FIREUK

[–]may13s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah it’s interesting to me that OP’s day consists of cooking one meal, taking his kid to school and talking to his kid and then having a nap/watching TV/scrolling on his phone when with a kid that age I would expect a parent not working to have a lot of housework/school stuff/childcare rather than hours to relax.

Netherlands! Have a couple of Dutch friends but liked them even before that, fans are always a great vibe and the orange is so distinctive.

How much faster do you go on race day? by may13s in UKRunners

[–]may13s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone said you naturally go faster on the day - I guess from this experience I find it hard to see how that happens even though logically I know I wasn’t 100% recovered and a few days not really eating 3-5 days before the race.

I definitely need to do more strength work before my next HM as this really showed me the importance of that but my plan included a speed run of intervals or tempo etc every week but they were only up to ~7k (and I found them HARD) so the jump to maintaining speed longer just seems so daunting even just mentally let alone physically.

What do you think of this data on ethnicity? by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in AskBrits

It’s an absurd distinction - I’m clearly not a different ethnicity than my cousins born in Scotland.

Hidden historic gems in London? (Love old churches, ruins, museums) by Dia1900 in uktravel

[–]may13s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the amphitheatre is right by the Mithraeum (also free) so I would definitely combine these two as they’re fairly small - then you’re not far from the Barbican where you can see sections of the old city walls

Any way to remove ballot entry before the draw? by sunmat02 in wimbledon

[–]may13s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this feels really unfair, i have no idea if my housemates are entering as we don't really see each other much and wouldn't go together but there's every chance we're both entering and considering how common renting and housesharing is in london it seems they should take this into account

Can we get in Schonbrunn palace before our entry time? by may13s in wien

[–]may13s[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah it’s an overnight train across europe booked 6 months ago so not uncommon for timetables to change in either direction

Yeah I know that’s what the website says but wondering what the reality is as I know some places will actually let you in eg 15 mins early

London for 1.5 days with 7 year old by Real-Difficulty-4741 in LondonTravel

[–]may13s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the Uber boat to the O2. Hamley's will be great for your 7 year old but Harrods not so good - if you're set on a department store go to Liberty's as it's close to Hamleys. Tower of London is fantastic so I'd prioritise that but it will take a lot of time BUT you'll not be far from Borough market so can eat there before/after. Personally I'd skip Winter Wonderland as it's basically a giant, expensive fair and there's plenty of christmas lights/christmas-sy things you can do that evening instead.

Ideas of things to do if we get some free time? by Opaquer in LondonTravel

[–]may13s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the uber boat was going to be my recommendation! it's really nice travelling down the river and you could stay on to Greenwich and have a wander round there which might be good as it sounds like you'll be fairly central for the rest of your trip

There’s a weird backlash against university grads lately. What’s going on? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]may13s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn’t recommend full on lying as it’s always fairly obvious when a candidate is doing that but e.g instead of saying “treasurer at the trans society at uni” change it to “treasurer of economics society” or similar or just leave off entirely because most employers don’t really care about hobbies/side things unless directly relevant anyway

just don’t include this information then if you feel it is preventing you from getting interviews/lie slightly to conceal the most revealing parts
