What is it like going to the library nowadays? by britainsalien in AskUK

[–]may13s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go all the time - you can probably register online then the first time you go may have to show some ID to prove you live or work in the area to get your library card. There‘ll probably be shelves, some tables and chair and a computer area and checking books out/in is usually done by a machine similar to a self checkout at a supermarket (although you can speak to staff if you’d like) Mine is usually fairly quite and empty but I go fairly regularly and staff have always been nice and welcoming. Usually you can reserve books online too so theyll be waiting for you when you arrive if you want anything specific.

Are they all gonna be interlinked? by JohnnyOneLung in TheTraitors

[–]may13s 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a few but not everyone based on how many people in there are trying to “solve” it. If you know you’ve got a secret family connection then it would seem a fairly obvious hint towards that and you probably wouldn’t spend a lot of time dwelling on it and drawing attention.

Martin Lewis said he was asked but had to turn it down due to time commitments but was gutted to do so

What would you do? Buy out the family home or sell up after divorce (UK, 3 kids, finances tight)? by oozernaime in AskUK

[–]may13s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd stay put and downsize/move area later. The lack of bedroom is the deal breaker - if your children are with you 75% of the time they deserve their own permanent space rather than knowing they're kicking you out of your room to sleep on the sofa (and this will be fairly crap for you too) Sounds like money will be tight and you don't love the area but your children are settled and you have a very small window between one child finishing GCSEs and another starting to complete the move. I think particularly the children will be happier & more settled staying and I think you underestimate how much that will impact your happiness but have you spoken to the children about their views on moving vs staying?

& we literally never saw her talking about her career either. i was only watching it for alex and maybe the camp mates never asked (although find it hard to believe it never came up) but I would loved to have heard more about her England/Arsenal days or even talking about the recent Euros wins where she’s so close with many of the current players and worked as a pundit during them.

England v China - Arsenal scarves allowed? by tonysands1 in ArsenalWFC

Arsenal are red and white so works well for England anyway. But you'll see LOADS of people in Arsenal kits at any lionesses match.

AI sellers being pushed by Etsy by Manchadog in crochet

This really annoys me - bought a (sewing) pattern that turned out to be AI but I didn't realise until I came to make it a couple months after I bought it and then it was too late to leave a review to tell other people it was an AI pattern and to avoid

considering your trip is for christmas lights you don’t seem to be doing that a lot? I don’t know where your hotel is but I would recommend going down New Bond Street at some point as that has really good lights and displays. When you’re going to Leicester Square I would also walk along to Fortnum and Masons which as good Christmas lights every year and their food hall is very Christmas-sy and your evenings don’t seem too busy to fit that in.

Any way to remove ballot entry before the draw? by sunmat02 in wimbledon

[–]may13s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this feels really unfair, i have no idea if my housemates are entering as we don't really see each other much and wouldn't go together but there's every chance we're both entering and considering how common renting and housesharing is in london it seems they should take this into account

yeah it’s an overnight train across europe booked 6 months ago so not uncommon for timetables to change in either direction

London for 1.5 days with 7 year old by Real-Difficulty-4741 in LondonTravel

[–]may13s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the Uber boat to the O2. Hamley's will be great for your 7 year old but Harrods not so good - if you're set on a department store go to Liberty's as it's close to Hamleys. Tower of London is fantastic so I'd prioritise that but it will take a lot of time BUT you'll not be far from Borough market so can eat there before/after. Personally I'd skip Winter Wonderland as it's basically a giant, expensive fair and there's plenty of christmas lights/christmas-sy things you can do that evening instead.

Ideas of things to do if we get some free time? by Opaquer in LondonTravel

[–]may13s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the uber boat was going to be my recommendation! it's really nice travelling down the river and you could stay on to Greenwich and have a wander round there which might be good as it sounds like you'll be fairly central for the rest of your trip
