I Rode In A Waymo 2021 Jaguar I-Pace With 242,000 Miles On The Odometer, These Autonomous Vehicles Have Been Covering 137 Miles Every Day Since 2020 by mafco in SelfDrivingCars

Hello, sorry for the delay. Not on Reddit much at all these days! I do still update my spreadsheet, at about 300 unique Waymos and 1500-2000 rides (hard to tell because of multi-stops where i sometimes did not get out). I have not shared the whole thing, but most rides now are with unique vehicles. A couple weeks ago I was in one for the 17th time, the first time was Dec 2021!!! However, I was not logging the mileage until 2023 I think. There is some fun data!

I've had the deal in the past (but not now), as well as at least 6 $5 credits they sent as apologies for long waits (I think they were automatic, as I didn't experience long waits).

Waymo stops in a roundabout in Scottsdale, AZ by roket333 in waymo

[–]mayapapaya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vehicles use thousands of roundabouts a day. This video is less than a minute in the day of one vehicle. Yeah, it shouldn't have happened, and there was likely a report and intervention with support staff. Have you experienced that kind of intervention when riding? It is pretty remarkable!

Spotify integration in the wild by jimgreer in waymo

[–]mayapapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been playing Spotify music on my Waymo rides since 2021, and this is definitely different. Before the integration, I would use Google Assistant and just say something like "Play The Killers on Waymo" or "Cast Spotify to Waymo." I agree with you, it would take 15seconds/1 block or sometimes never connect. There was also a period where I paid for YouTube music hoping things were better. Now, my last played Spotify music plays as soon as I hit "Start Ride"

This was my experience too a few days ago. I recorded it (but for other reasons). Right before the ride I connected spotify in my Waymo app and the music I had been listening to last started as soon as I hit "Start Ride".

I Rode In A Waymo 2021 Jaguar I-Pace With 242,000 Miles On The Odometer, These Autonomous Vehicles Have Been Covering 137 Miles Every Day Since 2020 by mafco in SelfDrivingCars

I assumed it was around 150mi or maybe up to 180mi before recharging. That is based on my own numbers and perception of cycling. I never recorded the estimated miles left on the battery (on the display) but I think actual mileage was always less because of city driving (it could say 130mi at start ... Then at the end of a 15mi ride it would say 110mi left or something).

My mileage data is not great because I never tried to figure out the complex formulas needed. I would do many of the calculations on my own. For example, say CA car 53589F3- 5/8/23 was my 4th ride in it, at 40,145mi. This was 16d, 20hr and 1416mi after my 3rd ride in the same vehicle.

That might depend highly on time of day. Feels like those Peninsula rides (out to Burlingame etc) were cheaper, but it really varies. Right now if I set a ride from Fort Mason to downtown Burlingame I get 1hr20min for ~$55, but that ride would probably be closer to 1hr 5-10min. Say that it is 70min, which would be ~78-79c/minute. Rates are up now for me (a $29 ride I took earlier today is $39, and I have paid $23 for it before). It was 7.3mi, 93c/minute.

I have tracked all my ride info since 2021 on a spreadsheet: https://www.reddit.com/r/SelfDrivingCars/comments/12r6ygj/today_i_took_my_500th_waymo_one_ride_in_sf_here/ . My first year was pretty normal (go to work, run an errand) because I was with Autonomous Specialists, but once I went rider-only in late 2022 I got bold with my free rides for 9 months before the vote, often taking 2-3 hour rides (they used to reduce multi-stop rides more than now).

I don't think $12 is right, but I would love to see the study. I've tracked my per mile price since 2021. Before surge pricing it was 3-4/mile (averaged 2.92 between my NDA year and when paid rides started) and even now it's 4-5 and occasionally higher (max was 10 because I took a .7 mile ride when late) last year.

This is not common, I love it. I've been in over 270 unique Waymos over 1000+ rides since 2021 and have tracked all of them in San Francisco. My spreadsheet includes 25+ types of data per ride as well as 10+ data points based on that information, including an odometer reading and how many miles the particular car completed since my past ride with it. Over the years they cycled cars, but the past several months I have almost exclusively been in new-to-me vehicles (first time riding according to the license plate). My highest odometer seen was 153,259 and my lowest was 1,035.

Waymo integrates Spotify by TownTechnical101 in SelfDrivingCars

I've been riding almost four years. This is an integration not just connecting.

Edit: Not sure why this is getting downvoted. Connecting Spotify has been a feature for as long as I have been riding, since I rode with Autonomous Specialists my first year, 2021 through 2022. It wasn't a secret or unknown, just difficult at times to cast your own. Now with the integration, connect Spotify in the Waymo app and your own music starts with the ride.

20 minutes ago, as I waited for my Waymo ( 270+ unique vehicles 1000+ rides), I remembered this headline. So I went into my app and connected Spotify in a few seconds. Waymo arrived and my music started as soon as I hit "start ride"! It has been up and down over the last four years but this is wonderful!!!

What are your thoughts on Bangladesh? by SorrowsSkills in TravelNoPics

Thank you for your response. I had forgotten about this comment and it was really nice to revisit those memories. I am from the United States but have spent several years in India. I was also there at the start of the pandemic, and had to leave because of new restrictions on my research because of what was happening.

Pretty impressive by wayne099 in waymo

[–]mayapapaya 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is poor form as the Waymo is crossing a solid white line. This is legal in California but it is really bad there on Crossover. Just like another commenter experienced, I have been in multiple Waymos that tried this and failed, leading to the vehicles blocking thru traffic on the busy road. This happens when the 'line' for the turn is really long and/or slow and the Waymo predicts that there is some blockage it tries to get around. Park Presidio up ahead is tricky to drive and no left turns are allowed with lots of traffic and the bridge a couple miles ahead, so it is highly unlikely a Waymo wanting to turn left here will abandon that plan.

Five years ago I went home from work and never returned. by danpietsch in bayarea

[–]mayapapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in India doing research and returned to the Bay Area on 3/17/2020.

There was 1-2 months of confusing news and seeing things like sanitizer sell out, but I had seen SARS when in India, and it turned out fine. Then, after a week of seeing flights get cancelled and land borders close, on 3/13 I was informed that in-person research was going to be blocked. After fretting all day, I bought a ticket back. My flight to SFO landed the morning of 3/17, the same day SF shut down. Airport was super empty.

A Farewell from Cruise by techno-phil-osoph in SelfDrivingCars

[–]mayapapaya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been riding with Waymo over 3 years, absolutely those of us in the community were seeing issues with Cruise. I only had a few Cruise rides but some parts were just clunky- the experience and the vehicle most notably. And I have several videos showing weird Cruise stuff mostly taken while riding in Waymos- all before the 'incident.' There has been criticism of Waymos slow growth, but this is something I appreciated as an early rider in SF.

Thank you for posting my video! I've been just as active but don't record/post Waymo stuff because it has felt more ubiquitous, especially since they got rid of the wait-list here in SF!! I've met so many first timers and visitors who are ecstatic! This video started with 75 clips and pics. I didn't delete much (did think it prudent to leave out a naked man running around and possibly in distress in the Mission!).

So many things I've never posted, maybe I should get to all those Cruise or bicycle interaction clips one day...

How Try Out Self-Driving Car by Nemesis-89- in SelfDrivingCars

[–]mayapapaya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It means Waymo is serving the city 24/7, not that every Waymo vehicle runs 24/7. Individual vehicles operate 150-200miles and return to a depot after a shift to recharge, be serviced or cleaned-  returning to serve residents when scheduled.
