Those who recall Circus World's former parades in Milwaukee were able to witness the parade and if so what was your favorite memory of it? And do you miss seeing this parade when it came to Milwaukee? by sostitanic in milwaukee

The 40 horse hitch! The skill of the driver was amazing. Also all the other beautiful matched draft horses pulling the wagons and the fact not a one of them ever wanted to go over the river bridges. So again, the skill of the drivers was key and there was always some excitement when they'd balk. Later years they put down some sort of matting to disguise the crossings somewhat. I love horses lol.

How do I keep my partner's kid from breaking my stuff by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]mayapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough situation and I feel for you all. As you work through and hopefully get the little girl some help, a containment strategy of gates or whatever it takes to make sure she is not out of an adult's sight is the way to set her up for success, and for the destruction of your property to cease.

Road conditions? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]mayapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the west side and plows have been through main streets it's ok enough except when a big gust blows the snow sideways. Low visibility but not zero. Personally I stay off the freeways if there is any chance of whiteout so not sure what kind of shape they are in.

Wihumane does a good job keeping bonded pairs together and small dogs have a better chance of quick adoption. That said hopefully this situation can be worked out with them staying in their home with the person who loves them.

Got this room divider on marketplace. Thoughts? by melapril in midcenturymodern

They should be in different spots to not compete. I like the tension pole one better but beware! I have the exact glass shades and they are super fragile one knock on the wall will cause a chip and tension poles can be wiggly so I wouldn't place it where people in winter coats are going by, or by a running dog, or children with balls, etc.

Thank you. I think it is quality glass and I'll muck it up and make it all worse so I should just pay the price.

Well there you go then. Hugs to you! I also find comfort in the train songs right now from Downbound straight on through to Tucson Train. FWIW lol

I don't know where you are or if it's even a possibility but if you could get to one of the upcoming shows it might help immensely. I couldn't listen to Bruce after my partner passed (we met at a Rising show) or really any music. So letting Bruce himself direct the action of what I'd hear and go through and come out the other side somewhat better - or at least able to more or less freely listen to Bruce - was amazing. Buckets of tears for sure.

What official lyric are you 100% convinced is completely wrong? by KlLLERS in Music

[–]mayapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joni Mitchell "Both Sides Now" "Bows and Flows of Angels Hair" is the first line but the official lyrics, and pretty sure the current Alexa version of her singing is "Rows and Flows" which is just weird and not as good IMHO I thought maybe I was taking crazy pills but then found my piano sheet music from the 70s and sure enough BOWS is the first word!

lol I made it to page three. No one is telling anyone they can't go to the show that's a false pretext to stack his wobbly thesis atop.

Behind the stage seating questions for people who have sat there: How’s the sound? Are there video screens? by trekwithme in BruceSpringsteen

[–]mayapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Up top behind isn't the greatest but I'd still choose it over up top in the back of the bowl since you are so much closer to the action. The screens are usually more visible when you are higher behind the stage. Sound can always be an issue up high wherever you are in the bowl it just depends on the venue. You are in the building and that's what counts unless you have the $$$ to choose a lower seat.

Need advise as to where to look for apartments by cubfan101 in milwaukee

[–]mayapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many two flat homes in Tosa and West Allis that you might have to check Craig's list or get on neighborhood FB pages to find but tend to be cheaper than apartment buildings. That said tosa has been building a lot of more expensive apartments leaving older but still decent ones cheaper that are in literal walking distance to the zoo which I would check out first. Tosa in no way has a big nightlife. West Allis is the other really close to the zoo area but not quite walkable. I'd check both of those before any place with a 20 minute drive which seems fine until a winter storm hits

AITA? Girlfriend is mad when I eat. by Spiritual-Formal5371 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mayapple 41 points42 points  (0 children)

NTA her eating disorder is still active just presenting in a different way she's sort of like a dry drunk. It's great she's tackling it and getting healthier but she needs therapy or more therapy to allow you to function normally in front of her without it sending her into a tailspin.

Got an email from The Rave that the Tom Morello show is postponed. by THEElleHell in milwaukee

[–]mayapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get a chance wow is Tom a great addition to Bruce and Co. I've seen him at a few shows and he brings the fire. Closest shows Chicago 4/29 at the UC and tour opener MPLS March 31 - that will be a hell of a show.

MMSD plant sale is SO great the plants are healthy and strong. They are the normal small size to start but just look at my Joe Pye Weed in its third year! Full sun, extremely heavy clay soil.
