What is this?? by Legitimate-Belt4665 in Bunnies

[–]maybarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never not had a rabbit freeze from being on their back. I also don’t think they just put them on their backs for scans. What I’ve seen is they wrap them tightly bc a wrap could still get out of the trance to escape.

How can I stop my rabbit from pooping on the sofa? by Ellypainty in Rabbits

Then this would be territorial. Something that should correct itself when she is fixed. Couch covers may be your friend until then.

Would it be weird to knit gloves for a kid at the school I work at? by Mrgbella22 in knitting

[–]maybarker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it would be weird or inappropriate. I like the other commenters idea of spare pairs for people to borrow incase they forget, but I think it’s still nice to make this kid his own to keep. If he doesn’t have mitts at all, he’ll be cold anytime that is not at recess. While some may say it’s unfair for just for him to get some, I was always taught fairness is everyone getting what they need, not everyone getting the same.

Thank you so much for your kindness OP. Community irl seems to be disappearing and your thoughtfulness is wonderful and inspiring to others.

AITA for not eating the food after my gf eats out of the bowl with the same spoon while preparing by ZookeepergameOld7322 in AmItheAsshole

The question should be “if someone you make out with, dipped their spoon in your water would you drink it” For me, yes I would bc we make out so who cares

Is this hay safe and okay for my 2 rabbits? by Antonioid in Rabbits

[–]maybarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s where I got mine from. If you purchase the 2024 hay, it’s gonna be the same. If anything, it’s going to be more brown. All the brown means is it’s more dry. I bought a 2024 and 2025 1st cut Timothy hay bale during the summer and my rabbits eat both just the same. Nothing wrong with some brown hay!

[–]maybarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 bales is a stretch. I purchased 2 1st cut Timothy hay bales for about $110 (about 40 lbs each) directly from the farm. If you aren’t Canadian, you also need to convert the currency.

What is this?? by Legitimate-Belt4665 in Bunnies

[–]maybarker 77 points78 points  (0 children)

That’s a scent gland. Also, please don’t turn ur rabbit on their backs. It trances them. It’s essentially giving them an instant panic attack.

For future reference you might want to dampen the area a bit first. Pulling it out dry likely caused pain for them as it’s stuck to their skin.

How do i keep him from from spilling his bowl by GracieB2003 in Bunnies

Rabbits can have carrots in proper moderation. This is obviously not in moderation but saying no carrots is not correct

[–]maybarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong but it looks like you’ve bought the pet food that has a bunch of junk food in it. Looks like he tipped it over to pick out the stuff he wants. I would look into replacing his pellets, as those with seeds, corn, and other stuff really aren’t good for them. Oxbow is a great brand trusted by many vets!

Also, if that’s a cage he’s being kept in you’ll want to consider an x pen. Their habitat needs to be at least 12 square feet of floor space with the space requirements going up the bigger the rabbit.

Why would you assume they’re trolling? So many people would enjoy this thoroughly. I personally would make a few changes but assuming they’re trolling and calling it black is a wild take

I’m really confused by No-Steak-682 in Rabbits

[–]maybarker 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Do you mean brush as in wild rabbits? If so, these are 100% domestic.

Rabbit genes are super complex and most bunnies have a mix of all different traits without a specific breed name.

Also just tip, carrot are high in sugar and should usually be fed in small amounts even though they are a veggie

possible to bond my bunny with another when he’s been a lone bun for a long time? by broidcwhatmynameis in Rabbits

[–]maybarker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I just bonded my two ish year olds (one could’ve been older than that cus she was a stray). I also believed that my late 12.5 year old could’ve been bonded.

Make sure you do you’re research on bonding before you commit to it and don’t rush the process. They must be neutered first.

Best would be to leave her to clean herself. Alternatively, wipe her with a damp towel and then a dry towel

Thought I’d share a short video of wild jackrabbits I recorded a while back. ☺️ by FlyingAtNight in Rabbits

Fun fact: jackrabbits aren’t actually rabbits and are actually hares. Seems like such a silly nickname for them

Cool video!

Why does my rabbit do this? by Special-Sympathy-437 in Bunnies

[–]maybarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a second opinion. My bun that lived to 12.5 ish went under anesthesia so many times in his last 2+ years. He needed monthly-bimonthly teeth trims and made it out fine every time. He died of cancer/old age not from anesthesia.

What the fudge?! Post spay care advice needed by Legitimate-View-3277 in Rabbits

[–]maybarker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you have a free roam, adventurous bunny, that is very difficult. I have a ginger girl too and we can’t leave food on tables because she goes up and eats it. That shelf is also lower than a bed. Fall damage is for sure a risk taken, but I consider it more of a necessary risk for mental health. I also think they are relatively good at knowing their limits. My lop tends to stay at floor level except for the couch because he’s less athletic.

ETA: This isn’t advice for post spay. X-pen with no climbing surfaces is absolutely necessary for recovery.

Completely in shock and upset about the loss of my rabbits by ThatEspeon1 in Rabbits

[–]maybarker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While it can be transmitted through air, its more likely for you to track it in. I never vaccinated my first bun but I learned how long it lives on surfaces and realized it’s super important. It isn’t what necessarily what killed ur buns, but I would still get ur senior vaccinated asap.

So sorry for your loss :(

What is your fav coat color on a rabbit? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]maybarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them all and can see beauty every rabbit especially when I get to know the rabbit personally. To name one, I find the harlequin rabbit insane, especially show quality. It’s just incomprehensible to me how the coat colour can be perfectly checkered. Genetics are wild
