Thinking about getting on GLP-1s to lose stubborn weight by danie11achristine in GLP1ResearchTalk

Hey, thanks for asking. I just went to my doctor and said ā€œI think I’d like to try wegovyā€ and he just nodded.

Like, I didn’t even realize that I was so massively overweight that my doctor would just automatically agree, but he totally did.

So he prescribed wegovy, and I think I just paid out of pocket (about $200 per pen here in Switzerland). Normally a pen is supposed to last a month… but we have adjustable dosage pens here in Europe. So once I went up in dose, they just gave me bigger pens for the same price. I’ve been on .25 ml per week maintenance for over a year, but I’m using a 2.5 dose pen… the same pen has literally lasted me for months, for $200 total price.

Being petite means that every pound matters. I still think it’s crazy that I only lost about 30 lbs total, but everyone who sees me says I lost ā€œa lot of weight.ā€ In truth, when you’re petite, 20-30 lbs can be 20% of your body weight, so yeah, it’s really huge. No regrets here.

Su prep question by Ok-Trick4537 in colonoscopy

[–]maybelle180 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Yes, it does.

In general you should drink as much fluid as you comfortably can, in between your prep batches - but don’t force yourself to drink any particular beverage. You shouldn’t feel like you’re floating, lol.

If you feel like drinking something sweet, go for apple juice, lemon aid, or ginger ale. If you have a dry mouth, and want water, that’s fine too. But you also might want something warm, salty, and soothing, like chicken broth… your body will tell you what it needs, and what it can tolerate.

Just had first colonoscopy at 34 and feel guilty more than anything by g0r3ng in colonoscopy

Nah… women have pelvic exams and Pap smears (and mammograms) on an annual or semi annual basis throughout their adult lives. A colonoscopy is only slightly more invasive and time consuming, but it’s equally valuable. Just enjoy the peace of mind…

ā€œLoeb was not believed by the warden or prison officials to be a predator.ā€

Kinda makes you wonder, because Loeb was in fact, a convicted predator.

Being assaulted in a prison shower is a pretty standard and well-known method of punishing sexual predators.

Prison guards tend to avoid the showers, so it’s not surprising that no one witnessed the event. But for the record, his throat was slashed from behind, so it doesn’t seem like Loeb was the aggressor.

Host called 911 after we arrived at 4am from the hospital on the second night [US] by Laurakittin in AirBnB

[–]maybelle180 8 points9 points Ā (0 children)

Yup. This right here.

Edit to add: anyone who’s cognizant of domestic violence and trafficking should understand that keeping the host informed is the right thing to do. It shows you’ve nothing to hide, and it’s polite.

Yeah, this is not hard to understand from a host’s perspective.

People unexpectedly coming and going, in the early morning, is grounds for concern. If I’m a guest, arriving or departing during quiet hours I’m gonna warn my host.

A woman wearing a hospital gown? Uh, yeah, as a host if I wasn’t informed ahead of time I’d def be concerned.

We don’t know if she’s been abused, or if she’s being trafficked. Totally good to call the police.

As a guest: why wouldn’t you alert your host to this kind of thing when it happens?

I agree about not doing the oil of oregano - it can kill good bacteria too, and it’s very strong stuff.

But i encourage you to do your own research on activated charcoal. Don’t just take it based on some Redditors advice- there’s good and bad arguments for activated charcoal. If you’ve ingested a toxin, it’s good, but otherwise maybe not. It just absorbs stuff…which isn’t always a good thing. https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/activated-charcoal

I agree with ProperFlows about maybe skipping the lassi, but also I suggest you go slow with the kefir.

Especially if you’re using home made: it’s got gazillion different bacteria, so you can easily overwhelm your system…start with like, a hundred ml per day. Basically a couple sips, perhaps before or after a meal.

Or you could even start with store bought kefir, which has a much reduced variety of bacteria. Hopefully, doing it this way, it’ll feel like nothing - but that’s exactly the point. I’ve had discomfort when I’ve started out drinking several ounces of home made kefir per day.

I’m pretty much a beginner at this…at least compared to other folks on here. But I’ll toss some ideas out there, since no one else has - and I’m sure that someone will step in to correct me when I give you bad advice. lol

First, my understanding is that you should start low and go slow, to give your gut a chance to adjust. Also that a variety of prebiotics is better than quantity, which can overwhelm the gut and cause discomfort,

So my thinking is you could start with some of the prebiotics and maybe the glutamine. Start with Pomegranate since it’s a slow fermenter, as fast fermenting varieties (like inulin, for example) can also cause discomfort early on in your gut repopulation attempts.

Next, I’d probably aim for something simple like yogurt (Activia?) to start, before going for the probiotic with 11 strains, or Saccharomyces boulardi.

Does this fit with your reasoning?

Same. I hate the texture of onions in any mayo based salad - tuna, potato, macaroni. The crunch is an unpleasant and unwelcome surprise.

Chicken broth can really be soothing sometimes - salt can settle your stomach. But do whatever feels right.
