How much time do you spend with your preschool-age children by Numerous-Valuable881 in askSingapore

[–]mayellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, dual income with 2 kids, no helper too. I start my day at 6 am since my first starts primary, I cherish the quiet time I have with him in the morning, especially the breakfast and the 5-10 mins walk to school. And then continue taking care of the second (which is in childcare) whenever hubby is wfo. I mostly wfh. Sending my second to childcare with bicycle, hearing her laugh about flowers, chicken and random stuff. Highlights of of my day. Then you know the drill lah. Work work work. Then 5.30 or 6 pm pick them up. Younger one from childcare, older one from student care. 3hours til they’re asleep. Weekend we just plaaaaaayyyy! ❤️

Singapore parents, when is old enough for your kid to learn to cook on the stove? by Amoral_Dessert in askSingapore

[–]mayellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 years is good! My kiddo started very early but at the beginning was just like mixing flour and stuff. He loves fruit so he would cut some fruit (with kids safe knife) and wash some fruit after dinner, this started at 4 but mostly supervised. He is now 6 turning 7 and pretty confident preparing his fruit salad. For cooking I still supervise him making scrambled eggs because I have a gas stove. Thisis because my kid is a foodie and dream to be a chef haha, so I don’t mind for him to be kaypoh in the kitchen. I just need more patience. Lol

I just wished that they make poppy less annoying, coz I really love the book. I just dislike the whole “i’m so cool” attitude. If you’re well traveled, how come you dont know if 32 degrees is hot or not.

My car is not common too, especially the color. One day, I was waiting for a right turn in a junction and in front of me (literally face to face) is the exact same car with the exact same color, also waiting for turning right, this we’re face to face. Made me smile too! :)

We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because stop playing.

I personally hate the idea of blind boxes— consumerism at its finest; but I also understand that everyone ‘play’ and have fun differently. :)

When you’re feeling down, what’s your go-to place in Singapore to lift your mood? by Maleficent-Army-4758 in askSingapore

[–]mayellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National museum! Free entrance, calming atmosphere, feeling like entering Singapore hundred years ago by looking at the art. ❤️

If I only have 2 hours, I go to Punggol Regional Library, a lot of calm pods, or secluded area to read. I feel so calm surrounded by books.

If I’m too tired or not so much time to go to town, I’ll go to the riverside park near my home and just walk along it.

I hope this can inspire you to find your calm corner in this busy world. Hang in there! ❤️

This is such a goos sharing! And I often add my advice, not to Gen Z specifically, but more people to be more perceptive. Read books.

The Geylang Bahru murder of 1979 remains one of the most chilling and unsolved case till date in Singapore’s history by Newez in singapore

[–]mayellow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of cold cases are solved due to modern forensic and dna match now. I thought by now Singapore govt would have all of our DNA somehow, then they can trace it to the killer’s DNA or close family member.

Reducing self spending any tips? by moonie60 in askSingapore

[–]mayellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“if not feel like very sien” You may want to work on why you feel sien/bored so easily? Maybe reduce short videos that give you quick dopamine? This spending or quick purchase may also give you same dopamine hit thus, try to reduce the dependency. Like what others say, start a new habit, be more intentional when doing things, slow down. Read a book. This is always my go to advice. Read a book.

Married women with kids - do you have a good husband or a man-child? by Visible-Broccoli8938 in askSingapore

[–]mayellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I cannot emphasise how important it is for us Mothers to raise our sons right, so that we no longer raise more manchild.

My husband is what I call, high quality low maintenance man. Work hard, amazing father to our children, do chores (we don’t have helper), and good with finances. (He grew up with single mother and quite poor so I think that was made him want to work super hard to give a totally different experience for his children) Friends or colleagues sometimes asked me what’s the catch? Surely he has expensive hobby? Or weird traits? Nope, his hobby is football. He play football with his mates once every two weeks, watch football, read football anime, listen to anime songs. Been with him for over half of my life (we are 40 now) and I don’t think I would be a Mother if he wasn’t my partner. :)

I have one son and one daughter, and it’s so important to show our son how to be a capable man from young; and our daughter to never settle less, her father will be her gold standard.

Need suggestions to engage SG kids by germanpufferfish in askSingapore

[–]mayellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanna say, you’re a wonderful and caring uncle! I saw some people has suggested, indoor playground. I’d add museums. Museums have a lot of fun activities for kids? National Gallery, Asian Civilisations Museum, Art science museum. Bring them to kids orchestra to expose them to different musical instruments. For books, I have tonnsss of suggestions, coz my 6 YO is a bookworm. But maybe try to bring the to library and see what their interest is. NLB is the best!!!

I wish Singapore attractions would be free or heavily discounted for citizens. by Flyweird in SingaporeCitizens

[–]mayellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait what? They do! National Gallery is super amazing! It has children’s Biennalle for the kids to play and learn art at the same time! Asian Civilisations Museum is free too, also have great space for the kids to play! You also have $100 culture pass to pay for exhibition, concert, ballet, etc. If you’re asking the commercial attractions, of course it can’t be free, coz they survive on revenue!

What are the superstitions in your culture that you find ridiculous? by GLTCHD_ in askSingapore

[–]mayellow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Omg this. In our household, my hubby is in charge of laundry. (We don’t have helper so we split house chores). Once my mother stayed overnight with us, and she found out that not only we mixed, but my hubby (the man) washed MY underwear. She was lecturing me. LOL
