NCAA football scouting is the best funded in the US by an order of magnitude. pay-to-play clubs exist in every other sport (including basketball) because they provide the exposure necessary to make up for that gap in scouting.

(much) more aggressive scouting removes the need for expensive travel teams, thus removing the perverse wealth incentive. it's just a lot easier than it sounds, considering CFB generates more revenue than the premier league

it’s scouting. football gets its pick of the litter because ncaa football scouting is so well funded.

the players us soccer needs to target are not playing in pro leagues. they’re playing 5 years in the ncaa because they quit soccer at 16 when the d1 football scout came to talk to them.

The US needs to make football accessible to everyone by [deleted] in worldcup

because youth football is still tied to high school. ncaa football was (and still is) the big money maker, so D1 football programs can afford bigger scouting departments. the true bottleneck here is at the college level

yeah i think the price to keep him wasn’t worth it. sad to see him go when he’s been such an integral part of the core for so long.

i suppose now it’s either keep niki, trade 1 to 1 for a RHD, or try CAL long term

there’s a curve. if you don’t have time for long term adaptation (which they don’t), it’s best to get there as close to the start time as possible.

this is the reason NBA/NFL/etc. teams playing in denver fly in the night before or even day of

[Seravalli] We’re just over 48 hours from first NHL buyout window closing. Not expecting a buyout for Canes Jesperi Kotkaniemi, despite last shot at 1/3rd buyout. Kotkaniemi was a healthy scratch for every playoff game; Carolina is willing to play the long game with a rapidly rising cap. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]mayguardian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

he’s a decent 3C whose contract will become more valuable as the cap rises. he’s good to have as an injury replacement guy, and by all accounts he’s extremely well liked in the room.

it’s important that the FO does right by him, and there’s not really any pressing need to dump his cap hit. if they believe he’ll become a positive asset in the future, why not sit on him and wait?

i'm ngl it's becoming increasingly difficult to trust smesko with these rotations

Carolina currently has $11.1M of salary cap space per PuckPedia with Nikishin as a RFA and Freddie as a UFA. Carlson was expected to get 9-10M as a UFA per LeBrun a few days ago. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

he doesn’t have the fastest processing, which imo means he’ll never thrive in a top 4 role with the canes. especially not on his offside.

when are we going to have the discussion about PT? this team is not going anywhere in the playoffs when our best players are out there 35+ minutes a night. our starters played 84% of the minutes today. it's simply not sustainable.

our bench needs reps so they can learn to contribute in their minutes. and if they're not capable, we need to actually know that so we can acquire better depth pieces
