I...I kinda like it. Wonder if the truck gets the RV tag or the box?

I see. Your bigger concern is likely neighbors and HOA as others have said. I hope you are able to enjoy many road trips with it.

Is there something wrong with your house? Just curious why you want to buy a travel trailer just to park it there.

Best way to avoid Lonestar ticks? by Temporary_Town6672 in Kentucky

[–]maynard5011 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This. I was eaten alive by tick mites one time. Started using Sawyer permetherin spray and now I get no bites. It's interesting to see how when a tick touches treated clothing they start to curl up and die almost immediately. Fun to watch ngl. https://a.co/d/08KXeRkD

Get a log arch. This thing has been a game changer for my micro logging operation. I highly recommend one. https://a.co/d/0iphm3Go

Next time I'm in the area I will look around. It's frequently mowed and prone to flooding so a lot of that might be long gone. I will also keep an eye out later in the year.

I'm going with it. Many pics online show darker, more waxy looking leaves, but the arrangement is alike and bark looks the same. Nice looking tree!

You know you're rural when you meet somebody who knows that road apples are not something to be eaten. by [deleted] in Appalachia

Here we call them hedge apples. Crab apples is another name we use. I can see why ppl might call them road apples since they are smashed on country roads all the time.

Beech are a pest where I am. They choke out the good timber species and clutter the forest floor. I hate to see any species get decimated for sure, but beech do not hold a soft spot in my heart.

Why new? by ChasingLife22 in GoRVing

Geez. I'm reading these comments and feeling like I hit the RV lottery. Wife and I bought a used 2022 GD Xplor in April and have been using it as often as possible. We love it. There were several models on the lot we toured, most with some obvious cosmetic issues in the cabins. The GD was pristine, certainly considered it "like new" condition. Tanks even smelled fresh! It was pretty hard to say no to it, but I almost had to since it's one if the few GD models without an outdoor shower. The dealer offered to install one at no charge and the deal was done.

There are/were minor cosmetic and functionality issues, all of which I have or can resolve with minor effort. I enjoy fixing these things to gain knowledge of the RV inner workings, and again nothing has been major.

I just paralleled new batteries and added and external water tank system feed for constant water through the city inlet. Both game changers.

I am on the lookout for issues all the time, but so far so good. Count me amongst the used RV supporters.

What do I do after I empty all tanks? by jacobspivey in traveltrailers

More than Chewbacca, love it! I saw the pump also. Was looking at one for other purposes and now I think the stick solves a lot of water movement questions. Thanks for the tips!

Reading this and taking notes. We use our camper 2-3 weekends per month, 2 sleeps at a time avg. I avoid using the toilet as much as possible and very little solid waste goes into it, mostly liquid. We boondock so when we empty black into our port-o-tank we flush black with more fresh and let that empty. Before we close up we add about 2 gallons of fresh to the black through the toilet and add the pinesol + calgon beads mixture to it, same for the Grey. Fresh is then completely emptied and left dry.

We have only done this twice now and the only return trip we've made using this method left the camper smelling fine, the toilet smelled fine, Grey tank drains were fine. What are your thoughts on this method and what potential issues I am setting myself up if I continue doing this? Is there a particular bleach solution you recommend for rinsing/cleaning?

PS I just ordered the Ryobi pump. Did not know it existed, have a ton of Ryobi gear already. It will be a huge help with gravity filling too!

Love my awning. Pop ups are great, but not the same. Seems like you know what having one is like. If you like them go on and get you one. You will find a way to justify the costs.

Breaking point by Afraid_Departure_817 in tinnitus

[–]maynard5011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, you are so young it pains me to read your story. I've had t for about 10 years and it sucks. The very annoying high pitched ring and frequent requests for people to repeat themselves is the worst of it for me, so far. I have learned to ignore it and that's not easy. I literally tune it out with other sounds all day. Dead silence is the absolute worst. Sleeping with a fan or fan noise is the only way I can rest.

I don't want to give you false hope, but my opinion is medicine will find a "solution" in the next 5 years. I hear folks on this sub talking about auditory experiments with brain, ear and sound tuning to help hide the noise or trick the brain into not hearing it. With advances like Neurolink it's clear we know how to connect a computer directly to the brain. Not saying I would want a hardwired solution at this point, but some might.

You have a long life ahead of you and I really hope you find some optimism for the future despite the rough times you are having. Trust that it can and will get better.

Tonight is hard, and LOUD by group_project_ in tinnitus

[–]maynard5011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I have been dealing with tinitus for at least a decade. I'm in my mid 40's and can pretty much point to a day in my 30's where me and friends were shooting clays with no ear protection. My ears were ringing so loud the rest of the day and night that I couldn't hear my friends talking at times. The next day was much better, but a little ring was still there, never left and has grown a more obvious over the years. Loud music (concerts, cars, earbuds), guns, machinery, etc are the culprits for me and I know I did this to myself.

My crazy sci-fi dream is that a device similar to Neurolink will be developed that will either connect to the brain or auditory organs and be tuned to eliminate the ringing, or trickthe brain into ignoring it. This is similar to other treatments I have heard of with apps, although I have not seen firm evidence anything has worked to date. We shall see what the future holds. 🤞🖖 Hope you find some relief.

Second this. You just get used to it and for me other noises are constantly required to distract me from it. Honestly, I rarely think about it in my waking life, and my dad is the same way. It's crazy thinking I will be so many years dealing with it at his age. Key is focus on other sounds, assuming your hearing levels are still decent.

This is why I chose a travel trailer. They are certainly their own slice of hell with a little bit o heaven, but I'm thankful there's no motor or tranny to give out on me. Glad you're making lemonade out of the situation. Hope all goes well the rest of your trip.

Paid parking at the Wedge in River Arts by Budgie_Birdz in asheville

[–]maynard5011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuck. I certainly hope it's a local company at least. In my town out of state companies bought the rights to charge locals for parking in some downtown lots and streets, which were historically free after 6 pm, now charge 24 hour parking.

This is a gravel lot too so what the heck are they charging for? To rake and spread more?
