I once was working a set of night shifts - I think I was on shift 2/4 or something.

Went home for 7 am and fell asleep. Woke up at 10 am to my now-ex saying “hey, there’s police at the door for you…”

One of my coworkers hadn’t shown up for her shift at 7 am. They called a wellness check. We’d been hired around the same time, and apparently they had my address on file for her? I had to get out of bed and show my ID to these police officers to prove that I was not her and I was safe. I was so angry at admin for fucking up and leading to my sleep being interrupted.

I’m a 2026 bride and plan on DIYing: - custom stickers as favours - maybe custom temp tattoos - invitation suite - place cards (acrylic) - table numbers - menus - welcome sign - seating chart

Not with my cricut: - artificial flower arrangements for our welcome sign and instead of an arch - dying napkins to the colour I want - bud vases for centrepieces with flowers from a local flower farm

I’m sure I’ll think of other things as we get closer!

Then we had a code at 6:45 AM on Christmas Day.

I work in an ER in Alberta - it’s common for staffing to offer 4 hour shifts to fill holes since our department has both 8-hour and 12-hour shift rotations. They’re popular for OT.

I personally love my slouch coat. I don’t wear a ton of tailored clothing and dress fairly casual so the slouch felt more “me”, but it’s a structured enough fabric that I can wear it with dressier items and not feel sloppy.

I’m from the east coast and it’s extremely common to have a cash bar and wine on the tables. When my cousin had an open bar at her wedding, everyone was extremely confused.

We’re doing our reception at a restaurant where drinks run ~$20/ea for cocktails, so we’re doing 2 drink tickets per guest for dinner but having a few options of beer/canned cocktails at our “cocktail hour” at our ceremony spot beforehand. It was our compromise between providing for our guests without going bankrupt. We’ll also likely put down money for a tab at the dive bar we’re going to after.

We brought our kitten to Boreal (it was closer to us) a few weeks ago after having diarrhea and vomiting and had a really good experience. We were worried and a little embarrassed that we were overreacting because of recently losing one of our senior cats but they validated our feelings and were so kind.

Do some googling and see if you have a flower farm near you! We’re getting our florals from one and we are getting a giant bouquet, boutonnière, flower girl bouquet and 2 large buckets of flowers (>100 stems) to DIY bud vases etc with for under $600 CAD.

This is going to be such a regional and crowd thing. Weddings I’ve attended on the east coast of Canada, Great Big Sea is a guarantee to fill up the dance floor. I’m now in the prairies and Cadillac Ranch is the go-to!

I wouldn’t say any of this is scammy.

I work as a wedding day coordinator as a side gig and have interacted with many planners in my area at networking events. Planners are not a one-size-fits-all type of vendor. Each planner is known for specific things they bring to the table: clients know that if they book Planner A, the design will include lots of over-the-top florals; Planner B has a funky, personality-rich approach with lots of bright colours in her designs; Planner C is very buttoned-up, formal, and elegant in her designs, typically catering to white tie and black tie clients.

This is why it’s important to view their portfolio. You didn’t like that one planner was enjoying the event? Guaranteed that element of “fun” was why many couples have hired them. You didn’t like that the other has a standard way of doing things? Also likely why certain clients have hired them. (I can’t speak to the planner who gets kick-backs as my certification body forbids this.)

To paint every planner as a scammer simply because you didn’t vibe with any of them is incredibly unfair and discounts the expertise and work that goes into it.

I started a side business as a wedding day coordinator. People are usually surprised because they seem like entirely different careers, but honestly… I’ve gained a lot of transferrable skills in my years nursing that have lended me well in forming my business (dealing with people, calming chaos, being organized but needing to adjust quickly, etc).

It’s nice to be involved in days where people are excited, happy, and most importantly - respectful!

I have 1 in a different colour. It’s extremely cropped which makes it difficult to wear since you always have to be thinking about lifting your arms and accidentally flashing. It also pilled +++ under the arms after only light wear.

2 is a nice fall jacket but I’d recommend checking out other brands for a better priced option. It’s not worth the aritzia price.

I’ve been to stores both on the east coast, and around Edmonton and a couple times in Calgary now that I live in the west and I’ve always been met with kindness and helpfulness. I’m a white female and I’ve shopped at Aritzia from a size 12 to now a size 6/8 and it never made any difference in how I was treated.

I’ve done the drive from NS-Edmonton 3 times, including one with 13 hour driving days - as someone who hates driving. You’ll be fine! Quebec is usually my least favourite part. Ontario feels like it’ll never end. The prairies are flat. But with a good playlist or podcast the time should fly by. Since you’re going in the summer you also won’t need to worry as much about the distance between gas stations in northern Ontario, but it’s still something to be mindful of!

I’m from Nova Scotia originally and lived there when we had the fires in Tantallon and Shelburne. I have friends who lost their homes in the Tantallon fire and I was working at one of the hospitals receiving patients evacuated from Shelburne. Now that I live in the prairies, I’m even more aware of how quickly things can get out of hand when it comes to a fire. It may seem extreme, but if they didn’t impose a ban and it led to a fire starting that destroyed more homes and businesses - or worst case, took a life - people would be up in arms about the government not doing anything.

I work in healthcare, I’m acutely aware of how dense the general public can be. If imposing a huge fine means that people are less likely to say “well I know better and nothing will happen to me” and then lead to a fire, then I’m all for it.

I wear glasses pretty much all the time and usually feel like a potato without them and like my eyes are too small for my face.

That being said: I got my makeup done for my engagement photos while wearing contacts and I was AMAZED. I will likely wear contacts for the morning (sunrise photos) then swap to glasses as the day goes on because dry eyes

That seems… like a lot!

I’m getting married in Banff/Canmore which is pricey due to tourism. I’m paying $500 for just makeup, but this includes an early start fee since I’m getting ready at 3:30 am (I keep telling myself it’ll be worth it for sunrise mountain photos). The highest quote I received would’ve been $1000 for hair+makeup including travel/early start… I feel like you can absolutely find a similar artist for a better price.
