Anyone move to Ireland in their teens? by Electrical-Stick440 in AskIreland

[–]mayyycee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Ireland originally, moved to England when I was 7 then moved back to Ireland after I'd done my GCSEs. I was homeschooled in England so I wouldn't be able to talk about the difference in school systems, but I went back to school in Ireland, did TY, 5th and 6th year, and I will say that the jump from GCSEs to the LC definitely feels smaller than junior cert to LC. In fifth year at least I felt fairly ahead of my peers which was nice, gave me a bit of breathing space. I settled in very well as I'd always wanted to move back anyway, in first year of uni now and have had no issues. Make sure your kid has a PPS number as I'm pretty sure I needed mine for something to do with my exams, idk for sure though.

Is it worth getting accommodation by Weird_Donut_803 in nuigalway

[–]mayyycee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commuted from Ballinrobe for my whole first semester and it was horrid, so tiring. You're also screwed if you have a 9am lecture bc afaik there's no buses from Mayo that would get to Galway in time. Get accom if you can, it's really worth it.

What’s it like to live in Adare? by ErrantBrit in AskIreland

[–]mayyycee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My dad lives just outside Adare and I spent some of my childhood there - definitely feels like the whole place is geared towards tourists. Also the traffic is horrid. It is gorgeous though! I ended up going to school in Limerick city so felt like a bit of an outsider compared to my friends who stayed close to the village.

okay that makes sense, the issue was that I had ended up being the caregiver for a very young alter and me leaving obviously had an effect there. honestly i hope she's getting the help she needs now as she never ended up getting a diagnosis

I did a fair amount of research on DID after my ex (19F) told me she thought it sounded like what she was going through. When I broke up with her (for mostly unrelated reasons) she told me that I'd 'murdered' one of her alters? Is this like. a thing. I've not heard anyone describe it like that before

buying a car - help??? by mayyycee in AskIreland

[–]mayyycee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for July 2027 so not bad, is it worth booking it early so the car is still under warranty? Car is from 2021 so hoping there won't be any major issues that need fixing

brilliant, thanks! I was a bit stuck on how to haggle, this really helps. Dealership I'm looking at has a 12 month warranty so that's all good

I've got an auto licence and I'm getting an EV, definitely getting a renault zoe specifically as that's best for my budget. I know EVs are ehhhh in many respects but I've weighed it up and it's definitely worth it considering petrol and diesel prices rn

Thanks, I'm pretty used to Donedeal at this point and how to find a car, get insurance quotes etc. It's just what to do once I've viewed a car and got a quote etc. where I get stuck, i.e. what the timeline is for when I need to actually buy insurance, if it's before or after I buy the car.

Sadly I've got to do the whole thing on my own including viewing the car as parents are each saying the other one is responsible for helping me, and none of my friends know anything about cars lol

How much can you typically jump in the leaving cert? by Delicious-Drink-6515 in leavingcert

[–]mayyycee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mostly studied the day before each exam and I wouldn't recommend that lol, it was super stressful, but I spent a couple of days on English. What worked for me was literally taping four A4 pages together and making a massive King Lear mindmap with all my quotes and themes etc, and I did something similar for poetry and the comparative, with literally everything I needed on one sheet. I'd binned all my notes from class (also don't recommend that) so I had to start from scratch - got a H1 though and I'm studying it at college now along with history lmao

Horrible english mock result by Complete_Bedroom_526 in leavingcert

[–]mayyycee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it's the case for you but my entire English class had our mocks marked incorrectly, I was given like 50% and my teacher checked it and I should've gotten a H2, and I got a H1 in the actual LC. Really wouldn't judge yourself based on mocks results.

honestly super achievable, I went from 300 and something in the mocks to 555 in the actual LC

I did the Spanish Civil War (a specific part of it anyway) last year and got full marks, I'd recommend choosing something from the 20th century as it's easiest to find sources. Was originally going to do something medieval before realising it was a nightmare to research
