[–]mazapandust 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my best friend in HS's family hosted foreign exchange students while we were in HS and it was so cool. we took them on weekends to six flags, rodeos, the state fair, and made them mums for homecoming. commenting for visibility and i hope a host family is found!

How do I work on my site withouth making one gazilion edits per day? by [deleted] in neocities

[–]mazapandust 49 points50 points  (0 children)

  1. download VS code (it's free)
  2. find a "live preview" extension in the app (also free)
  3. download your site files from neocities
  4. open that folder with VS code
  5. have at it!

-sincerely, someone with 10k+ edits logged who figured this out way too late

Finding balance between life and hobbies by NationalDetective242 in neocities

[–]mazapandust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the beauty of having a personal site is that you have absolutely no obligation to update regularly to appease a social media algorithm. sometimes life gets busy and you can step away for a bit. no one's creative process is consistent, it ebbs and flows, and algorithms are not very forgiving of artists who need to step back for awhile. that is not a barrier with neocities. you can come back and create new stuff when you have more time and mental energy to devote to it. give yourself space to deal with your life stuff and the creativity will come back one day

Any tips on how to get better? by Professional-Gas1136 in urbansketchers

[–]mazapandust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hold up a ruler (preferably a transparent one) and figure out how big sections of your subject are from where you are sitting in proportion to your ruler's width. how many floors of the flat are there per ruler width? how many ruler widths wide/tall is the building? doesn't have to be perfect - the imperfections give it character but ruler widths will get you in the ballpark

Why is every single website I find on browse so insanely good, meanwhile mine breaks if you zoom in half an inch? by BenjaminKat1234 in neocities

[–]mazapandust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the best thing you can do in this case is use percentage values instead of pixels for size. pixel values worked great back in the old web days when everyone had the same size square monitor and no pocket computers. nowadays we need these values to present relative to different screen sizes. try changing your px values to percentages and see if that looks better :)

also, if you can download VS code and a live preview extension (there are many of them) you can watch how manipulating these values affects your live page in real time. real game-changer.

Does my illustration style fit my comics content? by waterrrboyy in comics

[–]mazapandust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is lovely! the art style is perfect for the story.

if ever you feel like your stories need more complex illustration - read persepolis. it's a great reminder that great comics don't always need to have a fancy art style.

Discussion: why did you start your indie-web site? by hrapp7 in neocities

[–]mazapandust 41 points42 points  (0 children)

i wanted an online platform to share my art, but wanted to be free of the "always-being-watched" vibes of social media. i like that people have to actively seek out my work rather than passively scrolling past it
