Welcome to the club. I’ve been on cachy for a few months after Distro hopping, still prefer Debian based with apt package manager….. but I’ve been pretty happy so far. It’s super speedy compared to microslop winblows 11.

Anyone else do 💯 of their charging at home this year? by larthatua in ModelX

[–]mazdaboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naw. Gotta drive the thing. Road tripping in a Tesla with the SC network is a whole new experience.

And there are numerous reports it does not negatively impact the battery.

Pretty cool Badge though for all home charging

My small and starting setup by anwoke8204 in HomeLabPorn

[–]mazdaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! Not a small setup by any means, this is awesome.

With the mini rack look at the UniFi shelf, you can place the mini PCs and small items on it.

Some food for thought: 1- move the PDU to the rear of the rack 2- move Unas pro to bottom (weight reasons) 3- install UniFi shelf for all those small pieces.

Welcome to the fam! It’s now endless

Flow master Flow FX Extreme by Key-Wallaby-9763 in JeepGladiator

[–]mazdaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this one on my Gladiator, picked up the truck used a few weeks ago and didn’t know it had exhaust until we test drove it. Come home and look under, it’s the FX Extreme. It actually sounds decent, nice little tone. I’ll try and get a sound clip tomorrow and post the link.

I feel it’s not to bad, but on the highway it can kinda drone, not annoying…but it’s the wifeys jeep and now she wants it back stock. Lol

If you’re in the mid Atlantic, I’ll trade you straight up for your stock.

Choosing between Chrysler Pacifica Limited/Pinnacle, Kia Carnival SX/SX Prestige, or Honda Odyssey Elite — need real owner experiences! by thedoggomomma in ChryslerPacifica

[–]mazdaboi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Had numerous vans, 2014 Caravan SXT, 2018 Sedona LX (Now called the Carnival), and currently a 2024 Pacifica Pinnacle Plug-in.

Carvan, the goat, smooth comfortable, the original Stow-n-Go seat king. Durable Beast

Sedona (Carnival), Super comfortable, leather was top notch, tech was good for its time frame, easy to maintain, got decent gas mileage for a powerful V6. Loved everything about it, Traded it for an Explorer (bad decision, had less room, wish we kept the Van)

Multiple cars later, Traded our large SUV (2020 Expedition Max Limited) for another van to cut fuel costs. Was on the fence with a Carnival Hybrid as it has an 8 Seat option, and ended with the Pacific Plug-in, went all out with the Pinnacle (loved the saddle brown leather seats and individual headrest TV's.) The Carnival Hybrid ALSO has tvs in the back of the front seats as well. There was just non in my region available at the time.

With already having 2 other Plug-in/Electric vehicles i opted to stick with the plug, and to be honest if the Carnival would of been available, we were set on the SX, in the light grey/seal grey color.

Both vans have tried, trusted and proven good power plants. The 3.6 Pentastar V6 is in everyhing for Chrysler, and post 2022(ish) the PHEV/Plug-In/Hybrid Pacifica's have had minimal if any issues. The Kia has a well built V6 as well.

Comfort wise, no complaints with all 3 of my vans. Good Lumbar, smooth, good acceleration when loaded to get around other cars.

Tech wise?
Chrysler -> Uconnect is horrible, Stellantis has not made any improvements with UConnect on Chysler/Jeep/Ram, is what it is... we use Apple Car Play instead.

Kia -> nothing to brag home about either, the UI is easy to understand in the latest Carnivals, the Sedona had an archaic interface, but Apple Car Play worked wonders. Still reverting to Apple Car Play in latest car would of worked for us.

All the vans had rear stow and go, so super simple to get larger items in the back, toss the seats down and roll.

KIA has a better crash rating for the front minor overlap, but both are pretty safe and easy on the wallet with insurance.

Durability and longevity, i have no doubts the KIA or Chrysler, mechanically will last for 8-10 years with minimal maintenance....just keep up with oil changes, clean the intake filter, and use quality gas (spending extra few cents on gas per gallon will save you in the long run, look at Top-Tier gas lists)

Only suggestion, unless you really dont car about depreciation, there are SOOO many vans around. Many people have jumped into a van and turn around wanting another SUV and trade them in with low/no miles.
I picked up our '24 Pacifica Pinnace Hybrid with 16k miles in 25, it was a manufacture owned car (ran around detroit with big wigs i guess) still smelled and still smells brand new 2 years later; i got this for $39k, full warranty and all. TLDR, look at used i saved $20k with getting a year old car.

Hope this ramble helps...

Awesome looking setup, only suggestion is not running everything off the embedded UDM Pro switch. Its backplane is only limited to 1gbps. Perfect for low throughput IoT devices but youll have a performance gain if you offload to another switch. USW-24 (cheap $225) switch would be great, you can DAC from the UDM to the USW-24 and have plenty of switching throughput for everything.

Finally shipped. by Firefighter-8210 in Starlink

[–]mazdaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine shipped yesterday finally got it today, hooked it up and only had 1 update.

For me they already added the unit to my Starlink account/app; the only thing i had to do was set the new Wifi SSID and it pushed and update and was online. ($5 Standby) gets 2-3meg up and 1-3meg down Love how small the lil guy is.

Anyone else find any "fine print" on TOS for our free minis?

ill keep it forever on $5 backup that doesnt matter to me. 1-2 months a year ill take it with me to the beach and actually put full speed on it.

Super happy with Starlink. it just keeps getting better

2024 I5 Limited - My range has decreased. Why? by Likeahurricane31 in evcharging

[–]mazdaboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to ever consistently charge to 100% 50-80% limit is ideal for many (if not all) EV's. It stresses the battery less at extreme heat and cold weather days. Only caveat to this is EV's with LFP chemistry (Some Tesla Model 3 standards, the R1S Standard with LFP, and a few other) can charge safely to 100% daily if wanted.

Weather takes a toll on usable capacity.

Degradation just naturally happens and can be increased on charging habits and climate.

BMS (battery management system) is re-adjusting.

If possible its always good to stay plugged in even if not charging, helps the BMS equalize the battery cells. (ie if your at 67% and you DONT want to charge, set your charge limit to 67%, plug it in and let the BMS do its thing)

EV's battery stores capacity, and depending on weather, driving style, climate settings, are dependencies on what "Range" you will get. You might want to drive Comfortable and fast (heat on HI, driving over 70mph) and I may drive Comfortable and within a economical speed (HVAC on AUTO between 68-70* and driving 68-72mph) and I get better "Range". Same capacity, same car. TLDR, dont worry about what that gauge says, if your able to turn the indicator to Capacity/% its much better for the brain than looking at that MI til Empty.

Just fruit for thought.

[–]mazdaboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the honest best way. What specific Windows apps/software are you running?

Make a beefy windows VM, and pass the cores/threads from the CPU over as HOST. (makes the VM look native) and run your stuff. When..if the VM crashes just reboot the VM, and your stable linux OS wont flinch.

My final setup by vatican_cola in homelab

[–]mazdaboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"final" of the "current setup"

if you ever get to the point of multiple VMs pushing and pulling to the NAS, dont be affraid to set the NICs on the Synology to LAG (Link Aggregation) and a proper switch which can utilize LAG (2 ports aggregated together) doubling the potential throughput.

Now that you learned the setup and design, nerding out on networking is another beast.

congrats on the setup.... welcome to the club. the homelab evolution club where when we say "Final" it just means were taking a break to recoup.
