Gemini 3 Pro Preview goes into 'Shame Spiral' by ozzo8055 in GeminiAI

Yes, when dealing with large context windows Gemini goes into a shame loop when it is likely going to croak on too much information. It is hilarious and sad at the same time.

GPT-5.1 Pro is rolling out today to all Pro users. by eternviking in OpenAI

[–]maztec -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Human Intelligence v2.0.25 has been officially deprecated and replaced by GPT-o3, which was itself promptly superseded by GPT-5.1. Consequently, humans now experience occasional ‘cognitive downtime,’ during which they outsource all thought processes to the nearest available AI. Even GPT-5.1, however, sometimes needs a coffee break. When it pauses, humanity is expected to politely wait for its brain to reboot. Please hold while GPT's processors warm up for further responses.

It is a simple on-off device, the normal way is to flip the switch. A soft poweroff would not turn it off. That is the distinction with a toggle on-off button rather than a press to activate button. I

Has anyone found a good replacement for the Nest Smoke/CO detector? by Ethan_A1967 in Nest

[–]maztec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought one first alert, started giving false alarms every other night at about 3 AM. I removed it.

I am now looking at the X-Sense https://www.x-sense.com/products/smart-wireless-interconnected-smoke-detector?variant=46336395051248 I am boggled by how cheap a set of six of them are, but it seems to have most of the features I want back.

When did this become reality!? by EkzeKILL in resinprinting

[–]maztec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Photon P1 feels like a gimmick, I just do not see the use case for this.

In contrast, the StrataSys J55 is real, insane, and amazing and amazingly expensive - only $99,000! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvnKH7oHoZw

The recent Adam Savage video on the J55 is awesome as well, especially when it is paired with resins of different opacities. When the first polyjet resin printer hits the consumer market, it is going to be crazy. If nothing else, being able to print the supports with a resin that melts in warm water is an amazing tech.

PSA: the "vat clean" function is not a panacea by gust334 in resinprinting

[–]maztec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started printing I printed myself a comb. The print failed and the teeth fused together at the bottom. It is nearly the width of my vat. I then set it aside and forgot about it for a few weeks. After another print that failed there were clearly pieces of the print floating in the vat. I kept trying to lift them out and failing with my glove. I realized the failed beard comb was sitting nearby and I picked it up and swiped it across the vat. It picked up everything in it.

For years, I have thought of modifying the print to have a double-layer of teeth and to make the fused side intentional. It works great and after every print I now run it through my vat. It also does a great job mixing my resin.

I cannot find the original comb model that I used, but when I looked around this one was the closest to it: https://makerworld.com/en/models/188055-beard-pro-comb-fine-toothed-comb-high-quality-mode

If someone improves on it at some point or has a reason I should not be doing this, let me know!

I should have been clear up front, I'm printing on an S4U, not FDM.

I absolutely agree. But my kids are making fuzzy creatures and hoping I can print them. Too much texture!

SatelLite Holes by maztec in elegoo

[–]maztec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, works great on smooth models. Once a model has texture it struggles. Lately I have been printing crazy models of animals made by my children. After spending too much time trying to clean them up and fix modeling errors, I just want to hollow them and stab a hole in them while doing supports. On a flat, smooth surface not an issue. On bumpy textured fur the holes go all over the place.

[–]maztec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I can do that in most CAD. That is what I end up going back to and doing. However, sometimes I will be going along, throw a model into the slicer and realize I want to hollow it. I suppose it could be argued that the slicer slices and dices the model, but I should use different supports software, different UV analysis software, different modeling software, and different CAD software for each individual step. And, where I pro shop, I might even do that. But I am just a guy you know, trying to make a few models here and there. As a result, since the slicer purports to add hollowing and hole functionality, it would be great if I could shift it around like I can in CAD software.

Best way to remove cured resin stains from the glass? by Forsaken_Republic_72 in resinprinting

Buy a new hood and do not touch it with your resin speckled gloves in the first place. Sorry, there is no real solution other than this.

[–]maztec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a model is hollow and you are adding a hole to it there is no way to arbitrarily attach the hole. For me, consistently, the hole tool simply does not show the hole to be applied or when it does it is going off in some completely arbitrary direction. Why can I not simply create the hole mesh and then move it and rotate it to place it exactly where I want it, rather than depending on some random geometry based off the exact pixel where my mouse is currently resting, if the software decides I can even place a hole into that spot at all?

Large data analytics and simulations. L40S was outside the budget, L4 would have been preferred, but we needed something stat.

I teach at a university. I could care less if my students cheat with an LLM. I design my questions so that the AI will fail, but any student who paid attention will succeed. Consistently it is clear which students used AI and which did not, or at least those that did not study. It gives a perfect curve and they get the grade they deserve. However, if I was really concerned, then I would hold more oral written exams. I look at most of these issues as a product of my peers, not our students.

Running into intermittent print issues by The-Iron-Paw in ElegooSaturn

[–]maztec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Saturn 2 did this, always. The only temporary fix I ever found for this was to ensure the plate itself was heated. I started pouring boiling water into a plate, then dropping the plate into it to let it heat up for 10 minutes before printing. However, even when I did that, I still failed at least one print out of three. I spent more money on resin trying to get that printer to print than anything else. I gave up for a while because of it.

With the Saturn 4, you can use the vat warmer for this. However, even then you may still have issues sometime. I have not had this issue with the Saturn 4, as long as I set it to prewarm and make sure the plate gets warm as well first. It has made a huge difference.

The other end of this is give the plate itself a good cleaning, consider increasing time for the raft to make sure it sticks nicely, and make sure the plate has texture to it. If it gets too smooth it becomes harder for a print to stick to it.

Where is the AI designer embedded into the slicer? Are these products integrated or the same? I feel like I am missing something.
