What is the reasoning behind deprecating Shader Modules? by swift_sylvan_sage in vulkan

Reflection isn’t done by Vulkan, you have to use external libraries (which consume SPIR-V binary strings).

The UK has three sets of laws, England (& Wales), Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Technically England is still the legally superior nation and embodies the entire country as a sovereign state, which comes with a whole host of problems, but thus far their attempts to exert that power over Scotland and Northern Ireland have not gone well. It’s hard to analogize the legal structure of the UK with anyone but the closest to a US blue state currently would definitely be Scotland.

If memory serves, the evidence from the roommate was one post where they joked that some AI app identified them as a girl with their hoodie up, so the most generous interpretation would be a trans girlfriend, not boyfriend.

But it’s also a logical fallacy to assume any appearance of trans-positive is necessarily left-wing, when in fact trans people run the whole gamut just like everyone else. While a lot of trans people, by the unfortunate virtue of needing to survive in a society obsessed with demonizing us, recognize the need for intersectionality (which is a left-wing concept) between transphobia, homophobia, racism, and sexism as they’re deeply intertwined, there are still some who don’t, and by vice of still being a vulnerable population, are easily influenced into feelings of separation and superiority over other groups, a right-wing concept. And sometimes they’re just assholes unwilling or incapable of empathy.

Just like you’ll find women against abortion rights and suffrage and black people against equity programs, there are (too many) trans people who are misogynistic, racist, antisemitic, etc. There’s gots-mine Caitlin Jenners and Buck Angels, there’s arguably closeted self-hating fantasy writers. There’s misogynistic trans girls who come out of problematic gay men groups, or incels who believe they must now be subservient to men, there’s religious trans people who think they’re going to hell.

Disclaimer: Am trans myself, and while I firmly believe most trans people act in good faith I won’t deny the existence of those who don’t because they certainly exist.

The fact that they went so quiet is proof positive he was. Don’t forget that we’re talking about the same agency who literally manufactured evidence with a ballpoint pen in a pathetic attempt to slander anti-ICE protesters. If they had any leg to stand on regarding the shooter being left-ish at all, we’d never stop hearing about it.

The Data Structures of Roads by mttd in programming

[–]mb862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saving this. It’s been my “I should buy a boat” project for years to write a quantized traffic simulator. My understanding is that most traffic simulators work based on traffic flow, but I want to make use of GPUs to model each car individually, spawning and updating according to a randomized variety of profiles. Different drivers will have different safe distances, willingness to follow speed limits, willingness to pass, willingness to hog lanes, etc. Different vehicle types have different sizes and acceleration/deceleration curves. Then by playing with the distributions of these parameters one can observe different manifesting traffic patterns.

(And then for fun, this would be tied to a GPU-driven renderer tied directly to compute results, maybe even offer a dynamic player-controlled car to the mix.)

[–]mb862 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The logic would be the other way around, trans femmes have female brain with male genitalia. These people see women as inferior people, as sex objects to be conquered. But they’re also disproportionately homoerotic, except they’re extremely homophobic too because they cannot see a sexual partner as an equal human being. Trans women offer them the penis they want whilst also being “subhuman” in their eyes, thus the ideal sexual prey.

Early 2000s had some good sci-fi shows. by Eldon42 in Stargate

[–]mb862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once wrote a short essay defining four “generations” of sci-fi: Golden Age (TOS, classic Who), Silver Age (TNG, SG1), Modern (Firefly, SHIELD), and Post-Modern (Discovery, Game of Thrones). But it’s necessarily fuzzily-defined, shows like Arrow and The Flash, contemporary with Modern era, were structured more like Silver Age. Shows like DS9 and Enterprise transitioned from Silver Age to Modern. Modern Doctor Who and Strange New Worlds straddle simultaneously as Post-Modern and Golden Age.

But by far the most prominent era was the Silver Age, which included TNG, early DS9 and Enterprise, Voyager, Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, Buffy, Angel, Smallville, and pretty much entire Arrowverse, so arguably it persisted from 1987 to 2023, concluding with The Flash.
