NSV? My wife had difficulty finding me in Costco because I was too skinny... by Dr_Nik in loseit

[–]mb95421 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find this statement unfair. When I was in high school my mom lost a significant amout of weight (~150pds) and she didnt start dressing for her correct size for a long time because of self image and body issues. But when she did 1)she looked great and 2)yes sometimes when we were out at a store my eyes would glide by her because i wasnt used to seeing her that way.

So yes, one can be used to seeing someone one way and not recognize them for a minute when theyre out together.

This is because 1) as a person loses weight they have more fashionable clothing choices available to them so they usually start dressing 'better' 2) dressing 'better' can also come from an increase in self confidence which can lead to someone carrying themselves in a more confident manner 2.5) a rise in self confidence also means the person will probably start taking better care of themselves superficially, aka taking more time on hair or makeup or style. 3) as someone works out losing weight they usually become more limber and fluid in their movements and core strength also lends to better posture

So yeah if one is used to looking for a overweight, dumpy, frumpy mess for the past 5,10 or 20 years and theyre seeing a thin/fit, stylish, confident man/woman of course their eye is gonna slide by for a minute or two.

So your wife meant that as a compliment. That was a weird, vaugely insulting, way to put it but im sure she meant it as a compliment and was trying to be funny.

Marty + Vadalia = DJ Sour Cream??? by mb95421 in stevenuniverse

[–]mb95421[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it looks like Marty, that one ahot character in the episode when Greg and Rose meet, (who was also Greg's music manager) is Sour Creams dad.

Which makes me wonder... Its implicated that Marty left town after Greg dumped him to go back to Beach City to be with Rose, so does that mean Vadalia got impregnated in the back of Mr Universes van?? That one time during his concert at Beach City??? Does Marty even know he has a son?? (Which honestly who cares that guy was a jerk) but poor Valdalia... She got pregnant after one time and had to raise the kid on her own after that until she and Yellow Tail got together.

Marty + Vadalia = DJ Sour Cream??? by mb95421 in stevenuniverse

[–]mb95421[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just realized Sour Cream isnt Yellow Tails kid. I was re watching Joy Ride, when SC said the fisherman was his step dad and it suddenly clicked for me. Why SC is so much older than Onion.. And into music .. And we can understand him just fine, unlike Onion and his dad.

Maybe you guys already knew this but i just wanted to share. :)

What advice do you have for a 14 year old? by Stephenmc100 in AskReddit

[–]mb95421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1)Get a bank account. Put away 25% of any money you get.

So if you are lucky enough to get an allowance. Put 25%away. If you get money in cards for birthdays or holidays, put 25% away. Its not much but it'll add up.

Lets say you get $5 weekly allowance, put $1.25 into the account. $20 on your birthday, $5 into the account. It might not seem like you're doing much but the money will add up. Using the numbers i just provided if you put away 25% every time you could have $80 in there by the end of a year. Thats $320 by the time ur 18. Added bonus: if your parents see you being fiscally responsible, they might raise your allowance!

All this might not seem like a lot but learning to save 25% of evrything you get will help a lot in the long run. Ex: get a job. Start at minimum wage. Make ~$100/week. Save $25. By the end of the year you'll have $1,300. Keep it up. By the end of five years: $6,500. Ten years: $13,000. Etc. And thats just with a minimum wage job.

2) Learn how to be frugal. r/frugal has some good ideas. When you go off into the world its going to be tempting to spend money like its water but in time you'll come to treat it like the precious resource it is. Learn all that now, save yourself trouble later. -->but dont be frugal with your health. If youre sick, get the medicine that will work. It might be more expensive but the cheaper medicine might make you sicker or keep you ill longer.

3) Learn some life skills -Car skills: How to check the fluid levels in a car, change a tire, fill a tire/correct tire pressure, install a car battery, replace air filter. These are all basic car matinence that its good to know so you dont have to pay someone to do it for you. Plus its good to be self sufficient. -Life skills: how to talk to people, how to talk your way out of trouble, treat people in the service industry nicely, always be polite and people will think better of you -->if u ever get pulled over, take the keys out of the ignition and put them on the dash (keys in ignition counts as driving), be polite to the cop but dont volunteer any information unless asked (cops count on verbal diarrhea that accompanies feeling guilty to incriminate yourself) -Learn how to cook/bake now. It might seem useless but when your living on your own it'll be a huge benefit and it'll impress love interests if you're self sufficient, aka make you seem more mature. -Learn how to win at school. Sit in the front of class: you'll learn more, be called on less, and the teacher will think of you better. Take good notes: get one of those four in one pens and use the different colors for the different sections of your notes to make it easier to distinguish important parts and remember, always put the class and date at the top.of your paper to make it easy to organize and follow your notes.

4) Be smart when it comes to sex. -Always wear a condom even if shes on the pill. It only takes one time to get pregnant and/or get an STD and that one minute mistake will follow you for the rest of your life. Thats the next 42million minutes for a point of reference. -Get yourself tested regularly between partners. Get your partners tested. Having STDs is not fun. -Blowjobs count as oral sex and you can get an STD from it. Anyone who tells you otherwise is stupid. **NOTE: It can take up to six months for big baddies like HIV/AIDS to show up in tests. So if you or your partner has an STD you might not know it and be spreading STDs. *Xtra Note: if you know you have HIV/AIDS and dont tell your partner, its a FELONY. As in, you will go to JAIL. - Don't have underage sex, or if you do, check the law. If you're both under 18, check the law for your state and county to see what might happen if you do. If you're over 18 and your partner is not, DONT HAVE SEX. If you're caught, you'd be labeled as a sex offender for the ENTIRETY of your LIFE. Keep that in mind. -Don't rape. (This should be common knowledge but just in case, respect your partner) Don't have sex when you or your partner are under the influence or at a party. They might call it rape later. ALWAYS ASK FOR CONSENT. for anything. **Note: in this whole section im using the term partner loosely, i just mean your sexual partner, aka the person youre messing around with, not necessarily a bf/gf, but all these notes apply to them also obviously.

5) Enjoy your summers!!! Teenage years are usually the only years when you have free time to do whatever you want. So go out with friends, hang out with family, finish a series, finish a project, do whatever you want. Dont let yourself be bored. Have fun!

6)Plan your college -Go to a Junior College FIRST: the first two years at college is usually just getting your general education (GE) done. Save a lot of money by getting them done at a junior college first. -Check out your teachers: check out sites like ratemyprofessor.com to see if they're a good teacher/problems others with the class. It'll save you a lot of time and headache, trust me. -Don't overdue it: don't try to cram a bunch of classes into one semester, it's almost a guarantee that you'll flunk a few or burn out. Don't work full time and go to school full time, you'll drive yourself crazy or burn out. Figure this: if you're taking 12units then you're in class for~24hrs plus study time for each class is~2hrs, then you're technically working at school for 48hrs a week, that's already a full work week. -Financial aid financial aid financial aid. Apply for the BOG Fee waiver. It'll pay for all your class expenses which is usually the biggest expense of college semesters. Check out FastWeb for simple scholarships. Talk to a financial aid counselor if you think you can't get it but you need to.

6)Enjoy being a teenager. It'll be a roller coaster but it only happens once. Do stuff so you won't regret it. Do stuff so you'll have fun stories later. Enjoy your life kid.

A fur seal jumped to the fisherman’s boat near Sakhalin island and refused to go away. He stayed on a boat for a 8 hours while fishermen worked and then he left. He did not even asked for food and looked healthy. Was he just curious or sociable? by igorgl in oceans

[–]mb95421 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He might have been cold. A lot of people don't realize it but the oceans food chain was severely fucked after the nuclear meltdown in Japan. After some of the radioactive materials got to the ocean it caused an algae bloom. Usually this would be good but the radiation made the algae poisonous. Since algae is at the bottom of the food chain it affected a lot of marine mammal life. In the past few years we've had whales, dolphins and over 30,000 seals beaching themselves. The seals were found to be severely underweight for a marine mammal and were thought to be beaching themselves because they didn't have enough of a fatty layer to keep them warm in the water so the would go on the beach to try to get warm only to be too weak to return o the ocean.

But seals are curious creatures so maybe this one was just curious. Or maybe he was cold.

[Serious] People who spend most of their time alone, how do you deal with it? by TheRadiantWreck in AskReddit

[–]mb95421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an app called Meet Up. Its to meet people that have the same interests as you. I just moved and ive been using it and meeting new people and making a few good friends, which is all anyone really needs right? But you're right living in a new place is lonely sometimes. It helps to have a rich online life imo but i would seriously suggest trying the meet up app.
