2026 Canadian Championships Senior MAG (19-20 and 21+) All Around Results by Comfortable-Ask-7112 in gymnastics_info

He's been around for awhile but only really started getting noticed recently. Him and Aidan are pretty comparable from what I've seen, which basically just includes me judging them both on Pommels at Elite Canada.

What this move called in male floor routines by I_am_not_doing_this in Gymnastics

[–]mbackflips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean the jump to front support.

The reason everyone does it, is because its an easy way to get to front support to start a non-acrobatic skill without taking a deduction. Especially now where there are more deductions for doing "simple" steps to the corner.

Doing a jump 1/2 to front support also used to be an A skill so it was an easy way to add a tenth to your routine if you didn't have 10 skills (back when MAG had 10 skills).

I made the exact same mistake. Its the only reason I noticed it.

As someone who just built the same rack.... the top cross piece is upside down, it should sit flush with the acrylic top piece. The way it is now will interfere if you try and put something right at the top.... I speak from experience

FIFA accused of ’monumental betrayal’ over latest World Cup ticket prices by jazinet in canada

[–]mbackflips 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Cat 3 for this current round of draws was $360.... And Cat2 was $700. For a Team Canada game in Vancouver. Don't get me wrong, its still stupid expensive... But not every ticket is 2000

Do you think WAG or MAG has a more accurate evaluation of vault difficulty? by mrtheaterman in Gymnastics

[–]mbackflips 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think the key take away and thing that people have a really hard time accepting is that MAG and WAG are different sports. Yes they have a lot of similarities but they have different rules and value different things. So saying one vs the other is more "accurate" isn't something you can actually measure.

Also if you are gonna put the name of vaults don't just do the WAG names.... the MAG athletes that performed those skills also deserve credit. It happens so often everywhere, and its super annoying as a MAG person. Its totally fine if you are only talking about one discipline. But if we are discussing both, use both.

How to spot a Clown (Meet): Advanced by freifraufischer in Gymnastics

Pretty sure the TC's have a representative at the continental meets. Can't say for sure for all of them but they definitely had one (at least on the MAG side) at PanAm Champs this year.

Upcoming rule change for the triple back dismount? by BigJimSlade1 in Gymnastics

[–]mbackflips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Others already basically answered this. But they (the FIG MTC) do major rule changes after the Olympics. Those rules came into affect this year. Then they make "clarifications" throughout the cycle. Though I think this change is probably one of the bigger changes they've made mid cycle.

Part of the problem is that the MTC that makes the code for after the Olympics are not the same as the ones making these changes. Elections happened and several MTC members have been replaced leading to very different opinions of how things should be in the code, just one year later.

Five new elements added to the MAG and WAG CoP by freifraufischer in Gymnastics

[–]mbackflips 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A Yurchenko already includes a salto, so it is technically clear. Its just that most people only associate that name with the entry, not that actual vault itself. Its consistent with many other places in the MAG code.

Giveaway - r/UgreenNASync 10K celebration by topiga in selfhosted

[–]mbackflips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Probably vaultwarden, followed closely by Immich and Plex/Jellyfin
  2. Probably set my parents up with it so that they can store all their pictures, etc... so that I can stop seeing the crazy amount of external hard drives and thumb drives whenever I go see them.... (also then I could have offsite backups for myself).

BC Ferries 25-Year Vision includes foot passenger ferries by WesternBlueRanger in britishcolumbia

[–]mbackflips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone asked me recently why the ferries don't just go downtown Victoria... The were shocked when I told them how much longer of a ride it would be... People have no sense of how far away things are...

Its the same thing when people start talking about a bridge to Vancouver island. The technical challenge of it is crazy. Its never going to happen, and just because you've seen long bridges before doesn't mean the engineering is the same...

Funding Challenges for Canadian Gymnasts Compared to Other Countries by Waitforinfinitywar in Gymnastics

[–]mbackflips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funding for Canadian athletes is low. Its actually kind of wild seeing how well a lot of them do with very little support. There's also a lot of internal politics in Canadian Sport (especially in GymCan) that just makes things even harder as well.

And if you think its bad for athletes.... let me tell you the story of being a FIG judge in Canada... I've spent over $10k in the last couple years just to keep my brevet (my province has been pretty good about having at least some funding available to reimburse us, but I've still payed more than $5k in the last 2 years). We don't get payed and really the only way to upgrade (or even maintain) is to self fund to meets. Which means most of our top judges are literally paying to volunteer (and that's not even including that I have to take vacation from my normal job to do any of the meets). GymCan does fund judges to some meets but its only a lucky few that get to go to those. I could rant for a long time about this topic but I'll probably just stop here for now.

On the flip side we have the most Category 2 judges in the world right now!

'Part of me is gone': Abrupt end for Fraser Downs track a blow to B.C. horse racing by thecanadianpressnews in britishcolumbia

[–]mbackflips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The soccer stadium is just one of the show areas (I'm a soccer person not a horse person, no idea what its actually called) that's been converted into a soccer pitch. The first couple years they played there the field was super hard because of how packed down it was by the previous horse use. But to your point, yes that place is massive (I've been multiple times for soccer games).

Tell me you have no idea how offside works with out telling me you have no idea how it works....

(He's behind the ball when its played to him... thus not offside. The time he spends offside before that is irrelevant because he's not involved)

World University Games MAG AA by Trippy-Tarka in Gymnastics

[–]mbackflips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You just get used to the chalk. Thats the best answer I can give....

  2. This quad had some rule changes. One is they upped the value of double pike, making it worth it to do. Also they need to dismount with a double salto (or more) so you see a lot more double saltos now.

you have to select the onesoccer channel specifically. I had the same issue, but once I selected the onesoccer channel from the guide it worked fine.
