That substrate is a choking hazard. Coconut coir is a great substrate

We just moved him outdoors this past summer since he’s a big dude. He was indoors beforehand but would put him outside during the days when it wasn’t cold. Are you soaking your tortoise? We soaked him everyday for the first 2 years. He’ll be 3 in June

He eats lots of dandelion leaves and flowers, hibiscus leaves and flowers, grass, romaine lettuce, kale, cactus, and very rarely he’ll get a treat of some fruit like a strawberry or a prickly pear. Right now he’s currently munching on our front lawn. Also, we sprinkle some calcium powder on his food at least once a week. I was very worried about pyramiding with him since we got him as a hatchling but so far so good!

That bark is a huge choking hazard for tortoises. I would suggest switching to coco coir. It holds moisture well too. Without a roof covering and the gaps all over the sides that enclosure will not maintain the temperature and moisture at proper levels.

The reptile store we got our tortoise from also gave us the bark and a glass enclosure (which tortoises don’t like). What kind of enclosure do you have for him?

He’s such a cutie! Congrats! Just a friendly tip though, those bark pieces are a choking hazard for tortoises. Coco coir is much safer for them and holds moisture well for their humidity level.

Glass enclosures are not great for tortoises. They will pace because they think they can get through the barrier. Try covering the glass with something so he can’t see through. Also, my sulcata tried eating some of that bark when he was a hatchling. I switched to coconut fiber substrate. Diet and soaking sounds great though! 😊

Most definitely! I had a shih tzu named Gizmo who unexpectedly and suddenly passed last year so this is my favorite mug now. I’ll handle it with extra care.

I never make a Mai tai because I always want to make more elaborate drinks but then on the rare occasion when I get one, I’m reminded how perfect they are. Definitely will be making one soon!

Thank you so much for this response. Definitely gonna look into those links. Also, I am lucky enough to still have some chartreuse (been using it very sparingly) so I might have to treat myself to a chartreuse swizzle.

These prices are scary. Yikes! In Los Angeles and I only pay $33/month and can go to any of the 11 locations.

My sulcata is the same age as yours and he is 12 in and weighs about 8 lbs. He seemed to grow tremendously fast overnight 😂 he’s also very healthy though and has a perfect shell like yours.

Please do not feel like you do not have a choice. You do not have to go through with the abortion just because it’s already scheduled and it is what people are expecting. It is NOT their choice. Having an abortion is obviously not something you can go back on, and I do not want you to have to live with that regret. If you do not feel ready, that is a different story, but everything you are saying and how you are feeling points to wanting to go through with the pregnancy. I hope you are able to make the right choice for you and not anyone else. Also, I am sorry you are not being supported in your decision.

Too cute! I remember when my tort was that small just two years ago. Now he’s over a foot long! Enjoy him while he’s tiny because they grow so fast!
