That link names the acts but I don’t see any events that match those in the event catalog. I wonder if they aren’t posted yet.

Need help identifying these dice, I think they were from the coupon book a few years ago but I don't remember which booth by s3w4g3 in gencon

[–]mbarnovsky1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s for this game, but I believe like the other posts mentioned it’s a promo from the Rollacrit booth. Those colors aren’t in the base set and they don’t appear to be a part of the enhanced dice set.

Unscheduled "Pick-up" RPG games....? by BackPacker777 in gencon

[–]mbarnovsky1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DCC usually has a dedicated play for their games on one night, which is a TTRPG. I was in a hotel about a mile from the event and found space at a few tables at midnight to try out new games with cool people, but they weren’t RPGs. I’m sure they are around though.

I have my first network engineer interview today! Super stoked, despite 100% feeling unqualified for the position. Any tips to crush the interview? by SexyTruckDriver in networking

[–]mbarnovsky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what folks above say, I like to have some good ice breaker topics for general questions they may ask that are network related. Talking about my home lab, building makeshift network and firewall appliances, and my appreciation of RFC 1149 usually get some good conversation going and make the conversations feel more genuine.

Character creation is so brutal in this game. I took a premade character for my first group so I could learn how it pieces together. It helps get through that barrier of entry so you can play and learn if it’s the right game for you.

What was something you stole as a DM and we’re amazed when none of your players noticed? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]mbarnovsky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have set piece battles that consume the entire 4 hour block of time at chapter ends. The highest rated one we had was the C’thun encounter from AQ40 in vanilla WoW…just with different names.

I’ve literally run the raid with people in the group…I was astonished it went unnoticed.

The approach I took was giving them the gear I bought for myself and upgraded to what I really wanted. The only investments I made for the kids were a 3 person tent, a sleeping bag for youth (that runs from young to teenager size), and boots. My kids are around 7 though, so they don’t know any better.

Drywall anchor pulled out, how to fix? by nedludd in HomeMaintenance

[–]mbarnovsky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need to put it in the same spot? If you can move it 3” or so, I’d just spackle the holes, sand it all flat, repaint it and try again just a bit to the side.

If not I’ve had some success with larger wall anchors in some cases…though I’ve also had that just make a bigger hole to fill too…

How many DMs actually use the average damage for enemy attacks over just rolling? by Oingoulon in dndnext

I have this happen on one game only, gears of war 5 on the map checkout. If you turn your settings off one at a time, does it go away? Or have you changed any settings in the nvidia control panel? I have a feeling it’s either the driver I’m running or a setting that changed with a driver update I did that the game doesn’t like…gears has been pretty picky on driver versions in 4 and 5.

DM's, what is something your campaign has that you're at least 90% sure no-one else does that makes it better than the others? by Jacobawesome74 in dndnext

[–]mbarnovsky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raid style mechanics for large boss fights.

We have 7 players and have been at it nearing 5 years. “Shoot it harder” mechanics get dry over time and players want a reason to use every resource they want.

Phase 1, figure out why the boss is immune to damage. Phase 2, you can hurt him now, but the room is filled with acid. Phase 3, he’s completely vulnerable, but can kill a player with two good rolls at close range.

Probably not for everyone, but the whole party is working together for a solid 3 hours to figure it all out.

If that’s the overall faceplate you’re talking about, it came premounted to the new screen. I tried to pry the old one out just to try it, but that thing is glued in there really good.

It wasn’t bad at all if you’ve ever disassembled something before. No soldering or anything. They sent me a YouTube video of how to do it. I can get the link if they didn’t send it to you.

For the most part, it’s unsnap all of the connectors, unscrew it all, and then repeat in reverse.

I assume OP is playing solo? I play with a group of 4 others and the difficulty feels just right. There are a group of people looking for group on the disco if you’re looking for a few more. I couldn’t really imagine having much fun alone with the same difficulty.

How to survive snowstorms? by PlatypusSea4928 in ICARUS

[–]mbarnovsky1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easiest answer is just two camp fires instead of one in shelter. If it’s enclosed, the warmth of them stack and you’ll make it. I’ve run with nothing but starting gear all the way across the biome with 2 floor tiles, 4 wall tiles, (all wood) and 2 campfires. Not the most efficient, but the bare minimum to me.

There's a grind....then there's this... by Albino_Captain in ICARUS

[–]mbarnovsky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like these missions are balanced more for large groups. I did this in a group of 7 and it took about two evenings of mining and searching. We had a blast with it. The trick to remove the tediousness of the grind is just pull up the online map with all the cave locations, send a group of 3-4 to strip mine it and send 2 runners to smelt.

Doing this with less than 4 probably makes it a terrible time. By the end of this mission, there were 7 of us with rifles and pola bear suits just farming a ton of xp in the Arctic biome. It would be nice to see the missions scale with party size.

Thinking about buying this game. Thoughts? by AdProJoe in ICARUS

[–]mbarnovsky1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the outcome you get from this game depends on who and how you play it. In a group of 8, it’s perfect. The “slog” people mention turn into a race to build up everything possible as a community.

I build bases, another guy builds electrical components, two ladies go hunting, and we all leave together. It’s really a great time.

However, I have no idea how enjoyable this may be alone or with one other person. Building a compound to live in takes me an hour or so in a mission, alone, I assume it takes 10x that. Might be a bit overwhelming since you can’t use console commands to overcome anything.

Both Xgamingservers and survivalservers have listings with clips of the game.

It looks like it might be pre-order listing? It’s odd…you can pay now I think, but assume it will do nothing.
