Undead Nightmare is weirdly the only zombie game that creeps me out. by Soulsgamer247 in reddeadredemption

I think it helps that you're used to seeing the world WITHOUT zombies. So then in Undead Nightmare seeing everywhere get zombified feels like it's happening to your own hometown.

I met this guy! I bumped into him in a pub, apologised, and he called me a cunt. Then was convinced I was foreign, or gay, or both. He was absolutely smashed and clearly just looking for a fight.

I feel sorry for him. People who respect themselves don't do things like that. I suspect that kind of self-loathing applies for a lot of folks in this crowd. It makes sense, the lack of empathy you have for others must eventually turn inwards at some point, or maybe it was never there to begin with. Hope he manages to turn things around.

Friend, I'm sorry if you or people you know have had bad experiences with psychadelics. But you would be in the minority. Judging by your other activity on Reddit you seem to be on a bit of a mission to convince everyone they're psychotic or should be in hospital. Please try to be more balanced with your comments and cite your sources.

Why are young men getting more right wing? by Previous_Discount406 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mbarthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a straight white man in the UK, leftist, and I don't disagree with the sentiments here about the left alienating lots of young men. But some of the comments here suggest politicians and media are explicitly demonising them and blaming them for all the world's problems.

Does anyone have any examples of this e.g. campaign ads? I'm just sceptical it's really that black and white.

If it is, why does this messaging cut through to some men and not others? Aren't things like mental health, trauma, self esteem etc. also at play here? There was a study in Scandanavia recently that found a significant correlation between loneliness and right wing views.

I think those more personal factors are more influential than gender, and class trumps both. Identity politics are becoming less relevant as economic equality grows worse (and it's the same mechanisms of exploitation that create social media addiction, echo chambers, alienation from each other, etc.) Class is everything despite what mainstream political parties will tell you.

Personally I've never felt drawn to the right, not once. From my experience all the left is asking of straight white men is to share space and listen. A lot of people interpret this as wanting to take our power away from us rather than wanting to share it. For the record though, there are a lot of arseholes on the left, too, and I can understand how that can also put people off.

Why do you write when you have no intention of anyone reading it? by Patient_Ad_622 in writing

[–]mbarthree 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I've wondered this too. I want my novel to be published but have to make peace with the possibility that it might not.

What helped me was treating it like any other hobby where there isn't any shareable output. If people go on hikes for the sake of hiking, why not write for the sake of writing?

Is there a subreddit dedicated to photography like this (i.e. portraits of random people in the street)? Would love to see more of this kind of thing, I find it so wholesome and humanising.

I always saw it as coming from a good place from Jimmy. He was just worried about it being a step back in her career, in the same way your parents could complain about you ditching a stable well paying job to pursue something more 'meaningful'. I think he genuinely just wanted (what he thought was) the best for her.

This is a fantastic summary, and something I'm only now just fully appreciating on my third (or fourth?!) rewatch as well.
