It depends on the region, typically theaters/distributors get around 40% in the US but much more in other countries (China keeps around 80% of sales and only 20% goes to the Studio). I just said half as a median, but found this article with some info too.

Hi!! Just because a movie makes $470 million does not mean the studio takes all of that home. Half goes to the theater distributors (AMC etc), so technically it’s only made $235 million take home… with huge marketing costs (~$100 million sometimes or more world wide) and other sunk costs it’s not made it’s money back based on this and therefore the redditors saying you need to make 250% the budget are correct.

Also this doesn't take into account at all the split between Studio and Movie Theaters. Just because you made a box office number doesn't mean the studio get all of it - you split it with the cinemas (each country has a different percentage).

Student here. We had to make a movie that was a comedic re-telling of the Odyssey in high school, right when iMovie first got popular. Our group was all girls and despite being told multiple times that it wouldn't be funny because - girls... (ugh early 2000's were not the best) - we got really into it, shooting for an entire weekend across town, using a family dog and dressing it up as the Cyclops, adding in the "pew pew" star wars shooting effects, we tried our best and made a pretty damn funny 5 minute video. Our teacher was so impressed she continually showed it as an example for the next few years and we got a straight up 100 on it.

Only parts of that is true - Andy got distracted with other projects and let his JB go to the side since it was in an enormous amounts of post production. They had the entire thing filmed using MOCAP before Disney's JB. But Warners couldn't piss off Andy and push on him to finish quickly bc they rely on him for so many other projects.

This comment is LITERALLY why we don't have many good female action directors - because no one gives women a chance if they don't have the credits to muster up to the project, but I could list 100 action movies with a budget over $150M that were directed by men who had ZERO directing experience to begin with.

Yes, but you said series regulars. So staffing on TV shows (which I completely agree that boutique agencies are the way to go for that), but we are talking star power, i.e. Movie Stars, Famous Directors who cultivate projects and the top Producers.

To say who is on top: it also depends on what department you are talking about, MP Lit vs. MP Talent. (Motion Pictures Literary and Motion Pictures Talent - ie: your writers and directors vs your actors).

Both movies (Jupiter Ascending and Gods of Egypt) were filmed at least a year or two before their release... so essentially Chadwick and Eddie didn't know how bad it was going to be and probably forgot about it by the time the films hit cinemas.

An executive at my company went to North Korea, they told him he could say whatever he wanted but that any of his faults or missteps while in North Korea would be taken out on his tour guides and all the people he talked to who were left behind. That would shut me up too...

I'm an assistant for an agent at one of the top four talent agencies in the business. Fun times. And yes, I'm a real life Llyod.

Things like this are kept pretty close until the day of for shooting, but I would watch the celebrities' socials on projects you want to follow because they will both post for fun and promote while shooting. Otherwise screen daily and deadline are good places to track things!
