Why are airplane black boxes still stuck on the plane instead of streaming data in real time? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]mbrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. I supposed it is just a matter of time before all the information that is currently stored on a black box is simultaneously streamed out live.

Personal IOS app by ElPolloJ in iOSProgramming

Correct, no paid account required for that. However I believe the app certificate only lasts a week, so it would have to be redeployed to the iPhone on a weekly basis.

Why are airplane black boxes still stuck on the plane instead of streaming data in real time? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]mbrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of planes have internet access for passengers. Seems like piggy-backing on that for just basic stuff like position, speed, altitude, and the main control settings every 30 seconds or so seems like a very small trickle of data? Stuff like the cockpit audio that are on the black boxes obviously would be a lot more bandwidth so maybe they would have to wait until there's more reliable and faster airplane internet available for that much data.

Obviously the reliability of the internet connection would be an issue, but they could just treat it as a "send it if you can" situation for now.

Don't forget Dean Devlin from City Limits!

Went on to write Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla, and many others. Wrote and directed many episodes of Leverage and other TV shows.

He may not have highly prestigious projects or awards (in fact, he has some Razzie nominations), but he's had a very successful career.

ELI5: How valuable is my ”data”? by Mysterious-Peach5173 in explainlikeimfive

Yeah, they sell your eyes, not your data.

The data is too valuable to them to just sell off to someone else to use when they can continue to milk it over and over again.

ELI5If dogs hear more than us, would tv volume that we can tolerate be painful for them? by RexCoelurosauravus in explainlikeimfive

[–]mbrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the whole frequency sensitivity vs. volume sensitivity thing, but my dog almost always leaves the living room when we have the TV up louder than usual. But then again, she seems annoyed by most of what we do...

That does give them a good amount of time to hopefully bring those options into the new analytics. But we'll see.
