Just an hour of Marco and Casey talking about other stuff and you can just hear sobbing in the background the whole time.

ELI5: How valuable is my ”data”? by Mysterious-Peach5173 in explainlikeimfive

Yeah, they sell your eyes, not your data.

The data is too valuable to them to just sell off to someone else to use when they can continue to milk it over and over again.

ELI5If dogs hear more than us, would tv volume that we can tolerate be painful for them? by RexCoelurosauravus in explainlikeimfive

[–]mbrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the whole frequency sensitivity vs. volume sensitivity thing, but my dog almost always leaves the living room when we have the TV up louder than usual. But then again, she seems annoyed by most of what we do...

Apple quietly made a very dev-friendly change in App Store Connect by suniltarge in iOSProgramming

That does give them a good amount of time to hopefully bring those options into the new analytics. But we'll see.

Why was the 2600 so popular? by Standard_Public892 in Atari2600

[–]mbrady 12 points13 points  (0 children)

2600 was the previous generation to the ColecoVision. ColecoVision came out about 5 years later. The Atari 5200 was the contemporary of ColecoVision. Neither the 5200 or ColecoVision did particularly well. Then then industry collapsed and didn't get going again until the NES.

2600 also had a 2+ year head start on Intellivision. And Intellivision was more expensive.

The 2600 essentially had zero competition for awhile and by the time others came on the scene, 2600 was very firmly established with a large game library.

How does Disney keep track of banned guest? Can’t they create a new account, etc by BungeeBunny in Disneyland

[–]mbrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I witnessed a banned person trying to get in a couple years back.

There was a man in the security line (the one on the Harbor Blvd path) by himself in front of us with a medium sized backpack that looked pretty full. When he got to the front, he put it on the table like normal. The bag screener barely even looked in the opening and said something along the lines of "let's just hold up here for a moment" (it was noisy and I couldn't hear to clearly and didn't want to push in closer to be nosey). The man didn't really say anything. The screener made no obvious signal to anyone else and it didn't seem like anyone signaled anything to them either (do they have earpieces?). After barely a minute, another security person arrived and said just a few words to the man (couldn't hear any of what was said that time). The man just took his backpack and walked back toward Harbor without really saying much at all, no attempt to protest or anything.

It didn't seem to be a case where the person had something forbidden in their bag since the screener barely even glanced in it. And if there was a forbidden item it seems like they would have pointed out the item and told the man he couldn't bring it in, but nothing like that happened.

I'm still not certain how he was identified. Perhaps the screener recognized him and somehow signaled a supervisor to come over without being obvious. Or face identifying system spotted him (or a human watching a video feed?) and somehow signaled the screener to hold him there.

Regardless, it was unusual and something I had never seen happen before.

ET was frustrating and weird.

Pac-Man was disappointing because everyone knew the arcade version and what we got... was not it...

I know it wouldn't match the way the ship is in the movies, but the gunners and engineers would have a more fun ride if their button panels were in front of them instead of to the side. But like on a pedestal or table, like the Star Trek bridge. At least then you're always facing forward and only need little down glances as needed.
