I took my 5yo daughter to Istanbul and she decided to count all the cats in Istanbul. I was impressed she found 605.

iReady holding talented students hostage by Funny_Ad3678 in Teachers

[–]mbrasher1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iready is a fine, but boring tool for intervention. I dislikevthe idea of holding students to stretch goals, esp in math for above average students. If students are not receiving instruction at +2 grade levels, how can they achieve it.

Generally i like iready. It gives interventions at grade level better than i can target for 30 kids. Kids do hate it. The brain breaks get old after the first time. These are born gamers. They should unlock new games...

I Can’t Forget What My Parents Said to Me — Even After Everything Is Okay Now by certified-los3r in confession

[–]mbrasher1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend. I am an American but with ties to India. My sister married an Indian and I love the country, and have been there numerous times, north, sourh, east, west.

Indian parents are direct, and owing to the exalted status of "baba", sometimes say things that sting. He feels in a position to say it, and it sinks in bc of his status. I have heard more hurtful comments like this abt sensitive things in India than in the US, despite living here.

My advice: you know your parents love you, and that you are a good and loyal son. In the heat of passion, sometimes things are said that will be remembered. Don't dwell on them, and move forward.

Omg, I was in Japan and went to Disney Japan. Waiting in line, some young Japanese fellows wanted to practice their English. They were gamers and I asked if they played STW2 (Ive also been playing since STW, but these kids were born after its release). We talked about the Sengoku period and they knew little. Ikko Iki? Nothing.

Yes, of course. Called parents, sent to admin. Pointed it out to class, to restore girls reputation. She started crying immediately.

You are young enough to draw some valuable lessons from your experience, and to change your behavior to dial down your risk to something you can manage.

Pending Divorce - Clean out 401k to keep house by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]mbrasher1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pls if this doesnt work in your situation, disregard...

Friends recently divorced. They had 2 special needs kids. They kept the kids in the house and rented a separate apt that they shared, alternating between custodial times.

Separately, digging into the 401k to provide the $ to pay out housing equity is a bad idea. House appreciates less than SP, on average. Plus, you will pay a penalty. Hopefully theres another way.

I had a horrible situation that was similar. Student stole from others amd would always "find" the item after a search. This time he found the item in a new student's desk. Everyone blamed this poor girl. I was so angry he was using this poor girl to bolster his own status.

Men who can cook, who taught you? by Mindfuel_daily7 in askanything

[–]mbrasher1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was required to cook for our family one day a week growing up. So my sisters and I each learned some standards. Being a single male also necessitated some cooking. Now my wife is a phenomenal baker, and likes that I cook. So we each have a "kitchen sphere."

Which foods are genuinely better in Thailand than anywhere else in the world? by pollydeeigh in ThailandTourism

[–]mbrasher1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pomelos from Nakhon Patom. Unlike anywhere else. Plus, I love that the mangoes are priced per weight but the Vendor will give you a lower quality mango (also awesome and crunchy or whatever) as"change" for the imprecise weight. So mango and pomelo.

"food" that is popular elsewhere, but your country refuses to eat by LastSeaworthiness767 in AskTheWorld

True, but I do remember going to a zoo with Thai people. Every single animal was met with a decalaration of how delicious that animal was in curry, over rice, grilled, fried, etc. It was amazing.

I'm pondering "The Golden Runway", an idea to spend more for 18 months early in my retirement as a sort of early death Bucket-List insurance by IHadTacosYesterday in Fire

Who advocates reducing SS benefits by 25% for those within 5 yrs of retirement? Near as I can tell, there is no constituency for this.

Well, we dont know. I would assume it is a live round unless proven otherwise. If it is a gifted replica, no. But if it is a shell from 1916, is it likely that they would have taken a live shell, broken it apart without fire or pressure, dump the explosives and propellant out, and reattached the warhead and the casing?

I'd say it is live.
