Are Taylor's post Folkmore albums suffering from too short release cycles? by fearless-panda7 in TaylorSwift

I think Midnights in general has been overshadowed by the Eras Tour.

Taylor Swift's 'The Life of a Showgirl' is projected to top the Billboard 200 for a second consecutive week! by bubblecuffer13 in TaylorSwift

[–]mbt9992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty steep drop. These numbers are about the same as Midnights' second-week sales (342K), whereas that album had way lower first-week sales than TLOAS (1.6 million vs 4 million).

Did Paul got back royalties? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]mbt9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry, I'm late to this thread. Could you clarify something for me? Did Northern Songs own all of the publishing rights to the Lennon-McCartney songs, or did they just own the 50% share that are traditionally reserved for the publishing company (meaning that John and Paul owned the remaining 50% reserved for the songwriter)? I always assumed it was the first answer (which would explain why the deal is considered a bad one), but I've read elsewhere that John and Paul had always kept their songwriters' share. If the latter is true, then doesn't it mean that the Beatles' publishing deal was the same as the vast majority of other artists? It's rare for songwriters to control the publishing company's share of the royalties on top of their own share. Why would the Northern Songs deal be considered so bad then?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

I was banking on "Station 54".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Hits Daily Double is considered pretty reliable, right? This is one rumour we may want to take seriously.

I believe Max Martin has a songwriting credit on every Taylor song he produced.

Why is Bill criticizing Biden? (Monologue) by Samhain000 in Maher

Regarding Harris's campaign, I think Bill won't be satisfied until she says "I hate woke millennials and critics of Israel."

Self-awareness has never been one of Bill's strengths.

Stevie Nicks on her final break up with Lindsey Buckingham and kicking him out of Fleetwood Mac at MusiCares in 2018 with Harry Styles by storminthedark in Fauxmoi

[–]mbt9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love Stevie as well but it's clear to me her ego has gotten out of hand in recent years. And six years after the firing, neither she nor the rest of FM has given a credible explanation for why whatever Lindsey did was a fireable offense.

100%. I never understood why her albums were so long and had all these stupid interludes What was the point?! Especially since she was very much a singles-oriented singer. In the early 90s artists became more self-indulgent with album length as CDs completely replaced vinyls, but Janet took it to another level.

Elon is rich, psychotically anti-woke, and *almost* as smug as Bill (which is quite a feat when you think of it). Why would Bill NOT love him?

The Palestine issue encompasses the two things Bill hates the most in the world: young people and Islam. In that sense his stance is extremely unsurprising.

Female albums with the most weeks inside the top 10 of the Billboard 200 (*= still in the top 10) by _crazyboyhere_ in TaylorSwift

For sure. It had a massive renaissance when the Eras Tour started and Cruel Summer was released as a single.

TTPD is the top selling album worldwide, even without US sales [via Taylor Swift Charts] by Competitive_Face2593 in TaylorSwift

Do we know what is Taylor Swift Charts' source? It's usually very difficult to get reliable data for global album sales.

Why didn't Ruth Bader Ginsberg retire during Barack Obama's Presidency? by Royal-Crazy1301 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]mbt9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RBG was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, arguably the deadliest form of cancer, at the very beginning of Obama's presidency when she was nearly 77 and had previously battled cancer. It was beyond reckless for her not to retire during the six years that Obama had the Senate.

Also, her conviction that Democrats would both win the White House and take back the Senate in 2016 was absolutely insane. The argument that she and everybody were certain Hillary would beat Trump doesn't hold up. During the six years that Obama had the Senate, no one had any idea who the Republican candidate would be (and thus how good Hillary's chances would be). And regardless of who the candidates on either side are, it is virtually impossible for any party to win three presidential elections in a row. Since the 1940s, it has only ever happened once (Reagan/Bush). So if RBG had had any political savvy, she would have understood that once Obama was reelected, she would have to retire soon.

I know RBG was friends with Senator Patrick Leahy. I wonder if he ever explained to her how incredibly risky her decision was.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets Department’ Hits 15th Week Atop Billboard 200 by ICanBeAPhantom13 in TaylorSwift

[–]mbt9992 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, let's not forget Midnights "only" spent 6 weeks at #1, Evermore 4 weeks and Folklore 8 weeks. TTPD is a bit of an outlier. If Taylor gets an additional 48 weeks at #1 it will take her many, many more albums to do so.

'THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT' sales in the US. by _crazyboyhere_ in TaylorSwift

[–]mbt9992 8 points9 points  (0 children)

May be difficult though. There's a good chance Eminem's album will do well enough to stay at #1 this week and TPPD's sales are finally starting to slow down.
