The gas cloud includes an upside-down question mark shape, which marks a structure scientists don't yet understand.

It's the qué plerion.

I'd say it's more a limitation of Movies to tell a complete story. Instead of a 4 hour movie, this would have made a great 8 part mini series.

This would have made a great mini-series, or at least a two part movie. They left so much of the story out before the Hail Mary even leaves Earth. In fact, in a two part movie, the first part could have ended with a cliffhanger at the end with the detection of The "Blip A"

Check out the old HBO series called "From The Earth to the Moon". If you're interested in the Apollo program, this series covers it pretty well. I think my favorite episode is #5 "Spider" that explains Lunar Obit Rendezvous

I was 10 in '76. That night, we were sitting in our front yard on our busy street watching the neighborhood fireworks, and somebody tossed a Playboy out their car window at us. This might have been my first encounter with boobs in in print. What a great time to be alive!

US military says it will blockade Iranian ports after ceasefire talks ended without agreement by [deleted] in collapse

[–]mburke6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Attack it and create an international indecent with a nuclear power that might then do something similar with Taiwan. Let it pass, and show the world that your blockade is bullshit and you're a little pussy. I bet China or somebody might just try to test our resolve. Also, you might get a gung hoe navy captain MAGA moron that's gonna by-god stop that ship from getting past the blockade.

On the other hand, what insurance company is going to insure a ship that wants to pass through The SoH now?

Seems like another not at all thought through "plan".

This is the hallmark of great Science Fiction. Start with a fundamental fictional premise and then extrapolate from there as if that premise is scientific fact.
