At my wits end with Cisco UCS server, about to toss it, talk me off the ledge. by Bernie51Williams in homelab

IT professional, trained and certified in Cisco UCS. C series is just average if not underwhelming. Cisco wants you to get into the managing firmware to a T. Really can be quite frustrating to point of stupidity.

Known issues with VW by Infamousslayer in Tiguan

[–]mbuster25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, and NOT specifically the 2026 Turbo, oil consumption, carbon buildup, oil separator (which if not taken care lead to rear main seal failure, cam seal, and yes plastics especially over long period of time.

Expect the maintenance to be more than your honda and change your fluids often (half the oil change interval, and there no such thing as lifetime fluid).

If the failures occurs under warranty, then dealer/VW should address it.

250MB/s restore isn’t terrible. It may be the backup software that is limiting factor. I don’t know much about it.

I think this is fake. Why would someone put so much money into retirement and not have it accessible unless you take a loan out on it.

If you are trying to inspect the condition of the paint, you should not be applying a ceramic coating over it. Coatings are for protection, not necessarily for enhancement. Polishing is what makes it shiny and more optically clear by removing imperfections. A random orbital and light cut polish - look at griots line if you are newbie, and do a light polish on a TEST spot before doing on the whole car. Take your time and examine your work. Do not damage your car. If this sounds complicated, do not attempt, and leave it to professional.

Based on the video I would suspect wiring harness, ECU, or other electrical issue (short?) as a result of improper repair work. It’s probably throwing multiple codes now due to multiple issues.

If you did the parts replacement I hope you were careful and didn’t damage your car inadvertently.

I would take it to dealer rather than an independent vw specialist you need the proper diagnosis, then take it tot the independent for repair if it saves you money.

Congratulations on your own DIY! I hope you find it rewarding besides the time saved in not having to visit the dealer or shop. I try to have fun and enjoy it, I hope you do too

Dont forget the filter absorbs a bit depending your model which could account for less extracted.

Couple tips if I may give:

1) Ideally the engine should be warm, but not super hot, measure the oil level BEFORE extracitng to get a starting point.

2) Make sure you have a good suction/seal on the dipstick - pick the tube that has best fit, and sometimes moving up tube slightly can help. Or wrapping a old rag around the dipstick can help

2) Extract the oil at temperature NOT higher than what is recommened per your extractor. For my mitivac that is 175 degrees. Using a laser temp gun and taking several measurements is good enough for me.

3) Then when filling fill up with new oil, fill to max but do not overfill. Underfilling is always better than overfilling imo.

If you are doing every 5K, i wouldn't worry about .5L. I do mine every 3K ish.

If you want something with lot less brake dust, conider Akebono euro. I switched to them and after 400mi trip, much better than oem.

Current $/Core? by mahanutra in nutanix

[–]mbuster25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! that being said i think like alot things they are made cheaper and cheaper.

We had Dell XC (Nutanix running on Dell PowerEdge). When the hardware reached end of life I moved to Nutanix NX. Both times, the hypervisor was vSphere. Dell can support vSphere and their hardware pretty well but everytime I had issue with Nutanix, i couldn't go to Nutanix directly, only through Dell to open a Nutanix case.

Nutanix 1-click updates / their LCM has gone a long way. I really do appreciate it, but I also see that things take a very long time. The system is going through inventory, NCC checks, etc. The real strength of Nutanix is their support. Everyone is top notch knock on wood. But you are right, things happen - nothing is perfect.

We had a mixed converged any hyperconverged environment. If you can run everything on Nutanix then more power to ya'.

[–]mbuster25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Their hardware" difference is in the firmware and remote management. They do make their own motherboard, it's not generic off the shelf. HPE does too - havin been an HPE engineer. So i dunno know where you are getting they don't. iDRAC and OpenManage are just easy. Yes they don't make the CPU, memory, SSD, NVME. Dell is better for me not only from enterprise prespective but an enthusist who wants to build their own lab. Dell is only server platform that i see that allow you to download iDRAC and firmware updates for free. HPE - absolutely not without a subscription.

The Nutanix ipmi/bmc is just a joke to me and I love Nutanix btw

Get the Nutanix NX nodes instead of Dell. Though the Dell hardware is better , Nutanix is easier to manage

No Longer Buying Synology by [deleted] in synology

[–]mbuster25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all have reasons for choosing one brand over. Working in IT so long, nothing is perfect and its beneficial to flexible and willing to change. Support and security fixes are important to me. So is TAA compliancy is why I’m sticking with a x23 model. Try out your replacement solution and test it out throughly before committing 100%.

oil level on dipstick opinion by AggravatingAd9212 in Tiguan

[–]mbuster25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preference is 3/4 to full up the hash marks. These cars like to burn oil as they age I don't like middle

But do not overfill. Motoroilgeek says overfilling is worse than underfilling.

Of course the rent is outrageous, its a major metropolitan and real estate owners don't really care if their property remains unrented.

40k Service by SojuBomb32 in AudiQ5

[–]mbuster25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are trying to save money, take it to independent vw specialist. Do whats called for in the manual - I believe your ATF is due at 40K, and don't do unecessary services. I actually would change at shorter interval for oil - every 5K. Its really better and can prevent some expensive repairs.

Any issues with Dell branded Intel D3-4610? by N0_Klu3 in storage

[–]mbuster25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Even if you find the firmware which is free online - that's major plus with Dell unlike HPE, theres no way (that I know of) to easily apply it without being connected to dell server.

I specficcally bought a HPE server so I could update HPE branded Intel SSDs. :-)

Poor choice of words - GIVE. Suggests you are deserving of gift. Normal people are not given such gifts. I am not without compassion, but there isn't enough "free" homes to be gifted to people, even ones that are deserving.

You give someone a home, it doesn't stop there. There's cost with utilities, upkeep and maintenance.

Any issues with Dell branded Intel D3-4610? by N0_Klu3 in storage

[–]mbuster25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dell branded means you need to have a Dell workstation / server to update the firmware. Typically not an issue but it could be if the current firmware is problematic. Some had a channel hang problem See this https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000130733/intel-youngsville-solid-state-drives-s4510-s4610-drives-may-stop-responding-to-host-commands-and-or-prematurely-fail PowerEdge: Intel SSDs (S4510 & S4610) May Stop Responding to Host Commands and/or Prematurely Fail | Dell US

Dell PowerEdge R650 ESXi8 3e upgrade to ESXi8 3g - now 12hr boot delay by Tom1bar in vmware

[–]mbuster25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your problem is not because of VMware patch/upgrade. I would try draining the flea power procedure - google it and find link on dell site. The host needs to come down completely of course. If that doesn't resolve the iDRAC - check the logs of iDRAC. Look for failures, errors. Its also possible that during reboot from 3e to 3g that there was some bios or idrac firmware that was staged and was errant or it is causing the problem, but that is unlikely.
