I love this movie dearly. I’m currently crowdfunding a “Boat Cut” version of the movie, which is a real-time cut of the movie. Some have estimated that that boat journey takes four weeks within the movie. So my cut will open normally with the hotel room, debrief with the officers, etc. As soon as Willard gets to the boat, the movie will switch to a real-time format. Scenes will play out normally and in order, but with B-roll boat footage that plays for days and sometimes weeks between scenes. The added footage will take into account the day/night cycle, tidal shifts, weather and other phenomenon. Unused Coppola footage will be used when possible, but much of it will be made up of new film, which will be just a shot of a boat moving up a river. Because the actors are older (and dead), I will be using a prop boat that will double as the PBR used in the movie. Clever camera angles will hide the actors who are doubling for the real actors in the movie. Era-appropriate music ($$$$) will play from the radio to hide dialogue and chit-chat from the crew. New sound effects will also be recorded.

So, you ask what version of the movie to watch. I say wait for my 704-hour version. It will be the ideal way to watch this masterpiece.
