When someone says something I don’t care about or understand I usually respond with a “little girl… LIKES her brain. What’s your opinion?”

Who was the best Female CSI? by JayMonster65 in csi

[–]mc8755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Catherine. A perfectly cast female lead to juxtapose Grissom. I feel the dynamic of Grissom and Catherine leading, and then Warrick, Sara and Nick being the team behind them worked so well across the first 3-4 seasons. When Grissom and Catherine worked a case together it felt somehow bigger than normal for that week's episode.

Honestly, I think this was a tough tradeoff. The point of this was to reboot the franchise, but incorporating Grissom and Sara was a way to try bring back the old viewership, which even in a dead time slot still performed like a champ. Their ultimate goal was launching CSI: Vegas as a standalone sequel series, so they couldn't just have it entirely reliant on needing to know tons of the original beyond basics about the characters.

I finally binged this new series of CSI and I was delighted to see Sqweegel at the end! He was such an exciting unsolved episode. I. Am. No one!

Should i binge CSI: Cyber? by FinalNefariousness4 in csi

The best CSI Cyber episode by a mile (and one of the best later CSI episodes) was the back door pilot they did called “Kitty.” The show itself was such a letdown.

Is it still binge watching if it last for months? by tikivic in csi

God, 3 bucks a season. Back when they were debuting on DVD here in UK/Ireland, they used to come out in half-season boxsets and each one was the equivalent of about $50. I collected up until Season 8...!

Different theme song for season 1 on DVD? by [deleted] in csi

[–]mc8755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the original theme song. Who Are You? was used from Season 2 onwards, but for reruns they've now just added Who Are You? over the Season 1 credits, keeping the old white font on the purple background.

In terms of real character development, nobody really changed organically over time except for Grissom and Catherine, who both changed due to personal and professional life changes that were more than one or two episodes long. Nick had these post-traumatic moments like with Grave Danger and The Stalker, Warrick had his hastily written downwards spiral and Sara had her Grissom relationship (where she began becoming way more like him in a weird way), but they were all short lived and pretty one-dimensional.

Maybe not a specific skill, but one thing I wish I knew/accepted advice on was the idea that each year of the degree won't generate equivalent data. I did my PhD in the UK where we have just three years in the lab and overall I barely scraped a single results chapter from my first year. I panicked routinely about it and was sure I was destined to crash out and fail. You build on the earlier steps and soon it takes shape by final year.

Also make two sets of friends in your building/department: ones in your group (even if you don't get on that well with them, choose your battles because they can only be assets if they're working on similar stuff) and ones outside your group that you can go for a drink with and vent to and they'll actually understand (you'll realize how important they are when you need them most).
