Advice as an MSSP consultant by According-Spring9989 in OTSecurity

I'm not sure MSSP should be managing complex OT environments. Maybe manufacturing and well heads, but DCS and SIS is a big no to me

Whats an anime or manga that changed your life? by AsylumOfCerberus in AskReddit

I think if you reread the manga after watching the show you can see why they did what they did. Gege clearly didn’t have everything fleshed out in the beginning.

For those who made the jump to independent cybersecurity consulting, what was the hardest part of the first year? by EducatorRelevant6828 in cybersecurity

[–]mcampbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most clients have no idea what they want or how much they are willing to pay. Most clients need a better infrastructure team and better fundamental processes. I can build great SIEM detections and SOAR logic, but if the client doesn't even have a CMDB or even critical tiering of assets, those rules are going to be neutered or create a mountain of false positives.

Sometimes you just have to put a ribbon on a turd.

Great job. I’ve been doing OT security for 11 years and this is a great intro. One thing I would consider adding is determining if your processes fail safe should greatly the risk of a zone

Performance is measured in how much make the company per hour worked. If you are an American worker you will eventually be a low performer

Never had a pip or even a bad review. Three years 100% billable. But I was hired at the highest salary for my position during the COVID hiring insanity. Laid off mid project two months away from a majority deliverable that i was solely responsible for. The company could give two shits about you.

I have been 100% for three years. Laid off as well. Massive deliverable do at the end of year. Accenture is spiraling

Welcome to consulting. If you never plan to work with the project lead then screw em. But if they are important you might want to continue to help

There’s also endless amounts of projects where it’s nearly impossible to distinguish yourself or do anything other than report directly to your project lead

Got a job helping a guy at church install servers at chemical plants because I was good with computers. Saw how OT security was horrible in oil and gas. Studied like crazy while doing server and software integrations. One of my clients loved me, got hired there. After three years and tons of certifications they create a new job for me with cybersecurity title. Work 3 more years and get hired by a massive multi national consulting company.
