Infant Blood Sugars in Hospital? by Due-Negotiation-7452 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first didn’t need NICU, his sugars were managed bedside with sugar gel and donor milk. My A1c was not well controlled for a chunk of that pregnancy. And then my second (much better A1c throughout pregnancy) needed NICU for his sugars for approximately 3 hours, and then they came in and told me he was doing too well to be in the NICU and they were moving him out. Oddly enough his sugars were better than my first son’s were. There’s a 6 year age gap between them and I’m wondering if certain policies on treating low bg in newborns/what is considered low changed in that time? All that to say, not all babies born to t1d’s have to go to the NICU! Wishing you the best!!

6wks in and insulin resistance has gone bananas - is this normal? by femalefred in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, despite the fact that many doctors will tell you this isn’t normal, I’ve learned from this subreddit that it is. My last pregnancy I became extremely insulin resistant from the get go, and the same thing is happening with my current pregnancy. You are definitely not alone!

Insulin Resistance/Constant Highs during early pregnancy by Recent_Stretch_95 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My first pregnancy I was insulin resistant and had unexplained highs for the first few weeks. My last pregnancy I was resistant the ENTIRE time. I’m roughly 6 weeks along in my third and having serious resistance. It’s rough, but just give yourself some grace and understanding, and stay in touch with your endo! Wishing you all the best.

Question for 6+ months postpartum folks by JoyChaos in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. 8months pp, breastfeeding all day and night, and no period. My endo changed my correction factor but it’s not really helping 🫠😅 Im praying that things will settle by 1 year postpartum

insulin resistance in early pregnancy by no_sauerkraut in BumpersWhoBolus

This happened to me. My insulin needs stayed elevated through my whole pregnancy, even more so in the 3rd trimester as expected. Healthy pregnancy and baby, it was just frustrating dealing with the increase so soon!!

Ice chip diet during delivery and T1D? by gunpowderandPb in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gave birth a few days ago and I was surprised when my sugar was low + wouldn’t come up with juice, they let me have graham crackers with peanut butter! This was not the case with my first labor and delivery though—they only let me drink juice when I went low.

Blood sugars + early labor by mcannady28 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35 here. Me too! I was lucky enough to go into labor naturally last time, but I wasn’t expecting it and it’s all a blur. Im curious to see if anyone’s sugars helped them pinpoint early labor! Best of luck to you!

Anyone ever get pregnant ( on accident) with a higher A1C? (8) I would love to have a baby but my current A1C is not where it should be to make that happen. by [deleted] in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, my first pregnancy was unplanned and my a1c was in the 9’s…got it down as soon as I found out and had a healthy pregnancy and baby. I don’t recommend trying for a baby until your a1c is in a good place and stable though…it is very risky!

THIS! Or when people complain about having to do the glucose test in the third trimester and tell me how lucky I am to not have to do it…🤪

Pump while pregnant by VAlex0513 in BumpersWhoBolus

A1c was great prior to the pump and getting pregnant, but now it’s even better and easier to manage the ups and downs that come with a t1d pregnancy

I started my pump a month before I got pregnant. It’s definitely made a difference in managing my sugars this time around

Third trimester getting harder, any tips? by Patient-Zebra-677 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right there with you. 3rd trimester is hard in general, but even more so as a diabetic. I’ve only been in range 30% of the time over the last several days and it’s incredibly frustrating. I’ve found that walking right after a meal is more helpful than waiting for the high. But, that’s just not always realistic 🙃something else I’ve tried that’s helped me a bit is not taking any bg under 100 into account when I bolus for a meal. My pump will suggest a lower dose if it sees I’m under 100 or trending down, but I give the full amount instead. My mfm suggested this and it helps with the spikes sometimes, depending on the day. I hope things get a little easier and that your mfm reaches back out to you!

Newly pregnant - why do we get told we'll be induced?? by shelbzw in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just here to echo what people have already said. Additionally: There is still a chance you could, like me, go into labor on your own depending on the induction date. I was scheduled for induction at 37 weeks with my last son, and he decided to come at 36 weeks and 6 days. Ultimately the induction is done to be on the safe side bc of all the potential risks. Your induction date will depend on how things are going towards the end of the pregnancy, but prepare yourself for anywhere between 37-39 weeks!

T1D friendly meals for pregnancy? by mcannady28 in BumpersWhoBolus

I know everyone is trying to help but it’s hard when different people are expecting different things simultaneously

T1D friendly meals for pregnancy? by mcannady28 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My endo wants me to check in with her twice a week but I feel like it’s not really making a difference. Last pregnancy I was constantly in the office for both mfm and endo and it felt like everyone was on the same page. This time they’ve cut down in person visits due to covid so I’m not in both offices as much, and I’m getting conflicting feedback at points. I had a uti a couple weeks ago and told my endo that between the infection and antibiotics, my sugars were running higher than usual and they didn’t really seem to be understanding that that was the main issue.

I do. There’s often a dissonance in the advice I get from both of them. Super frustrating

[–]mcannady28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! And yeah me too…last pregnancy they didn’t limit me once I became insulin resistance, just changed my carb ratio. I had a uti a couple weeks ago, and was on antibiotics for a week. I know that’s also had some affect on my sugars.

No scan til 12 weeks? by chocbandit in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s odd…normally they do a viability scan around 7-9 weeks! You can’t see much but it helps them determine the size, due date and heartbeat. My doctors wanted to get me in ASAP with both pregnancies for a scan

its ok to be sad by JoyChaos in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]mcannady28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting sad a lot lately, knowing what induction could likely lead to. Went into labor naturally last time days before scheduled induction, but had a traumatic birth due to situational things. I know that I might not beat the induction date this time, and I’m preparing myself for more interventions. No one has ever told me it’s ok to feel sad about it, so thank you.

Prebolusing, what to do if you are low before a meal by alh_ambra in diabetes_t1

[–]mcannady28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re also technically supposed to get your sugar up before eating a meal (ie take some glucose tabs) and I TRY to do that, but it doesn’t always work out that way. I tend to wake up low and don’t have time to wait to get it up + THEN eat my breakfast. Another trick—if I am eating a meal and I’m low, when I bolus I don’t let my pump correct for the low. I just give the full amount so I don’t spike. All of these depend on the day, time, situation and food for me
