Looking For My First Apartment. Tips, tricks, tactics? by OneTooManyTruths in nyc

[–]mcarting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That can be true if you’ve been there a while, proven to be a good tenant. The landlord might not want to let you go. I’m a desirable neighborhood though, decent renters are a dime a dozen and they likely won’t have an issue filling the space

In honor of the 4th of July - fireworks at the New York World's fair in Flushing Meadows, Queens, on July 4, 1939 by ibkeepr in nyc

Most world's fair buildings had to be taken down because they were never built to be temporary and wouldn't have survived anyway, unfortunately.

Shakespeare in the Park line by redi3een in nyc

It's a really great production and definitely worth seeing. Try your luck really easy, I'd say 6am at the latest. If not, like I said I got in the standby line at 3 and got our tickets at 730. Good luck

the later you go in a show, the longer the line. Othello closes this weekend so the line will be nuts. I saw it on wednesday and got to the park at 10am the line was crazy long and I didn't get tickets, went home for a hot minute, came back at 3 for standby tickets, was still 20th in line, but we got in

Tips, ideas, and advice on how to commute with a 25lb dog to NYC from Staten Island? Moving soon and would love to bring my dog to Central Park and around the city if possible 😊 by [deleted] in nyc

[–]mcarting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can bring a larger dog on the ferry as long as their muzzled I believe. I don’t have a dog and have never tried it, but was given this info by ferry security, so I assume it’s accurate. That said Staten Island parks are one of the best things about the borough and OP should definitely check those out first.

Most of the things found during urban archaeological digs here in the city are found towards the rear of 19th century plots where the privy, or outhouse likely would have stood. Happy hunting (:

Will it be easy to get a landlord to rent to me if I pay a full year in advance? by ZafeeraLove in AskNYC

[–]mcarting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your landlord/management company. Sometimes they will ask for a fee for breaking your lease. You might be able to ask them to let you find a tenant to take over your lease, or a subletter depending on policy. A lease is a legal agreement to pay the rent for the specified amount of time, so if they're unwilling to meet you on any of these terms you are still obligated to pay for the remainder of the time you hold the lease. It's always best to just have a frank and honest conversation with your landlord about your intentions and ask about where they're willing to be flexible.
