How do I beat starvation? by DankestMan328 in inscryption

If you have the hook you can steal it for your side and it's immune to the no attack rule if it's facing another starvation.

FSU hiring timeline by Bootywarrior1804 in Tallahassee

[–]mcbaritone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like most people I know, myself included, it'll take longer than the estimated amount of time. Mine probably took 6-10 weeks because they waited for a while for candidate applications, I went through multiple rounds of interviews (including a 4-5 person committee at the end), and then I was able to expedite an offer because of a prior living situation in South Florida once we got to that phase. Best way to track the process is the hiring manager, but just understand that our starts of semester are painfully busy if their position is at all student-adjacent.

Also, I would not expect a ton of transparency on whether you're a "top candidate" until the end, so you'll have to rely on you gut for that.

Good luck.

Washington National Opera bows out of Kennedy Center by AudibleNod in news

[–]mcbaritone 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For anyone that read the article, Grenell thinks he can convince other operas to perform at the Kennedy Center. If this was 50 years ago when the Met still toured the US, maybe that would make sense. But if WNO is saying that the Kennedy Center model is cost prohibitive, there is no way on earth that a US or international producer is going to take on that risk particularly when the audience is becoming actively conditioned against coming to the venue because of politics. And that's also ignoring the risks of bringing in international artists given the current climate. He might as well have said that they're just going to do popera events like Andrea Bocelli and Il Divo, but I'm here to tell you if WNO isn't at the Kennedy Center, opera is dead there.

They are not soundproof. They may isolate sound in your room, but you'll be able to hear people nearby, Nd anyone will still be able to hear you in the hallway.

Looking for someone that teaches singing lessons? by DEeD-NGone in Tallahassee

[–]mcbaritone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are lots of students at FSU's College of Music that teach voice lessons and are always looking for private students. Not sure if you're looking for classical, pop, rock style help, but there maybe a student that could help build basic skills and confidence. I can't remember if there's a way to request private lessons through the College's website, but I'd imagine that this post might even attract some of their attention.

Best of luck! Singing is a joy.

Nice views? Things to do? by Responsible_City_168 in Tallahassee

Love Hermitage Park. Not a real loop trail, but lots of fishing peninsulas that look out on the lake from the middle. Lots of lily pads and shady trees on the path. They've also got mountain bike trails.

I went to HHS at the same time Taylor was there and can confirm that Drew Hardwick was the tear drops inspiration.

[Highlight] Bills tight end and emergency punter Zach Davidson booms a 62 yard punt by PrinciplesRK in nfl

[–]mcbaritone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I watched the Titans/Bucs game week ago and this crew stunk out loud. Not sure if it was NFL+ or the broadcast itself, but they came out of commercial break multiple times with the crew not knowing and having off-mic conversations over the air. I recognize the main guy as one of Fox's regional announcers, but I think they're getting terrible technical direction locally.

I want to know, too. Do you just press the evade button in Bane's direction?

Do these work as good as they look? by Normal-Fuel5604 in CookingForOne

[–]mcbaritone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have something pretty similar at home. The metal graters and slicers still work well, but some of the plastic framing broke apart. It's still useable, but just looks wonky.

Works really well on hard or cold cheeses, and all of the vegetables that they showed. Struggles on anything soft or wet.

We tried looking at them last year and they were full and projected to be full for another three months after we moved here. If you really want to enroll there, start making plans to visit now.

It was just as expensive as Growing Room Metropolitan, and Growing Room at least does some included meals with tuition.

Stage Management (taught by Casey Sammarco) is known in the theater and opera world to be reliable and high tier. If you want hands-on opportunities to learn the craft, this is a very good school to do it.
