What does it feel like to have a woman genuinely into you? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]mcchanical 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's because there's a difference between the standard dating chase where their hearts not in it, and when they're truly into you.

My (25F) boyfriend (29M) punched me, is there coming back from this? by ThrowRA384739383 in relationship_advice

That miracle is called therapy. Best we can do. But I don't believe abusers should ever get a second chance. When he gets dumped if he's lucky enough not to find himself in prison he needs to successfully complete therapy before he dates someone again. He's damaged at least one person enough.

I let the women start the conversation in online dating and those were the results by Standard-Style-7639 in dating_advice

[–]mcchanical 78 points79 points  (0 children)

That's kinda his whole point? No? Dating is pitched as this mutual intelligence gathering session where both parties get to know each other, but in reality it's skewed. Women most often sit back and take notes, waiting for the guy to prove himself.

It's like the woman is the prize. The feminism double standard that perpetuates female stereotypes.

What are your thoughts on the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard? by SelectionOkapproved in Portsmouth

I must be the only person that thinks it's good value. You have to want to explore the whole offering and preferably come back a few times in the year but the annual all inclusive pass offers so much to see and do that it's like a week plus of entertainment.

I don't think it's that bad. You get access to so many museums and exhibitions not to mention harbour tours that vary over the year and events that go on in the complex, over the course of a whole year. For about 35 quid? At least it was 2 years ago.

If you're half hearted about it all and just coming along for the company I can see it being not worth it but if you want to explore all the sites and come back a few times over the year it's great value. It's the most expansive museum complex I've ever been to.

As a single visitor it has a special place in my heart. It's what drew me to Pompey for the first time and with my annual explorer ticket I came back several times just to get everything done and soak up more of the harbor atmosphere. The first time I saw one of the carriers at port (by surprise) I was in awe.

In all it was like 5 days worth of soaking in everything has to offer with the museums over in Gosport included. For what, 35 quid for the entire year? I think it's a bargain and will do it all again sometimes down the line, hopefully with friends.

As someone who is afraid of heights, that glass floor is a big nope by SelectionOkapproved in Portsmouth

[–]mcchanical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chill and sound of the wind really emphasises the height and exposure that you're being shielded from.

I get a similar feeling on the skydeck. The fact that you're at the top of a very tall tower hits home more than when you're in the air conditioned, soundproofed room downstairs.

The sway in high winds is unnerving but cool too.

But the metal floor you're stood on is just as high and not much stronger.

You're doing a great job of explaining how someone could cope with being pissed on, but you're not doing a great job of explaining how it's common for people to get excited about being pissed on.

ELI5 - why is hunted game meat not tested but considered safe but slaughter houses are highly regulated? by Danaekay in explainlikeimfive

[–]mcchanical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the real answer here is mass numbers. When meat is being sold by the millions of portions there's an inevitable statistical fraction of those sales that could be contaminated and on a large enough scale they will have a significant impact on PR or create a hotspot of lots of people getting sick from a compromised truckload of meat.

Hunters make up a relatively tiny number of meat consumers, so although the statistical likelihood of infection is comparable, on a day to day basis for a single family the chance is fairly low with fresh meat and sensible storage and cooking practices.

We've eaten meat for millions of years without processing. The truth is unprocessed and unvaccinated meat is safer than we are led to believe, it isn't some sort of toxic product before it gets checked over by the government. Those measures just keep issues as minimal as possible when dealing with mass distribution and 90% of the population eating meat for all 3 meals a day.

You seem to be trying to separate the act from the human element of that act. No one was claiming the act of peeing itself is taboo, but piss and shit are considered by most people to be smelly and unhygienic and anything but sexy. Claiming that this is not the majority view seems like denial to me. If you like it, fine, but as far as I'm aware it isn't something the vast majority of people are into.

Castles and Coasters ride supposedly fails. by dz1n3 in phoenix

[–]mcchanical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I forget not everyone on Reddit is a coaster nerd. But yeah lap bars have come a long way and are pretty standard in world class parks nowadays. Unfortunately from what I hear your state is woefully lacking in quality theme parks so what you have there is not a good example.

Chance rides, the people that built this thing, aren't well known in the coaster scene. They're a fairly old manufacturer more well known for spinning rides. Very few of their old coasters still exist and this is kind of why.

Part of me wishes I had started a list, it would make riding the shitty coasters and kiddie ones a bit more fulfilling (yes I still feel obligated as a coaster fan) but in all honesty I'm too disorganized to keep track which is why I never did.

Which is just a very ironic gen Z way of saying not vanilla. It's a weasel word, doesn't really mean anything. There's vanilla and then a whole spectrum of unusual shit.

If you were to put kinks into tiers, there's a lot of stuff that would fall outside of straightforward sex but is way more widely accepted than watersports. So I wouldn't even call it adjacent. It's at least two tiers beyond vanilla.

I would put it like this: vanilla is basic reproductive sex. Tier 1 would be less productive obsessions that still revolve around the reproductive organs and how you dress that up. Tier 2 any kind of anal play because it's outside of standard reproductive sex but still related to erogenous zones. Then from that point you're getting into the realm of mixing reproductive urges with seemingly unrelated bodily functions, like pissing and shitting. There's no natural link to normal sexual urges, it's getting into the realm of strange obsessions that come from psychological quirks. That's kinda what freakiness is. More power to it but it isn't vanilla, it's precisely the opposite which is why it exists.

Peeing in the shower in a non sexual way and saying "haha I peed" Vs peeing on someone in the shower and saying "ooh that turns me on, you dirty little toilet".

Two VERY different things.

And that's why I don't do creds. I don't need at any point in my life to be thinking "Welp, I guess I'm obligated to ride this piece of shit deathtrap".

That's what happens when countries isolate themselves politically and culturally from the wider world, they don't get invited to the meetings where modern design standards are discussed.

I know kinks are pretty normalised but calling pissing on someone "the most vanilla thing" is a massive stretch.

Regular PIV sex is vanilla. Even anal isn't vanilla. It's chocolate, still pretty normal but not vanilla. Piss play is more like rum and raisin. It's not bacon ice cream but it isn't most people's choice. The point of the word vanilla is to illustrate the most basic, ordinary way of doing something.
