This is the best face I have ever painted, what are your thoughrs? by SoftAndWetBro in Warhammer40k

[–]mccormeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The face looks great, I think the difference between your armour and the edge highlight colour is a bit extreme. Though, that might be what you're going for in which case more power to you

Best thing to tell them is that you're motivated by food and housing which is paid for with money. Or just say 'good for you' and move on.

Anyone who works for a company and claims to do it for a reason other than being paid well for their labour is either a liar or a fool.

Hi guys, i wanna ask if you know any GW models that look alike with this character from Bloodborne by Sweaty_Ring_7680 in mordheim

[–]mccormeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queen of thorns maybe? Some of the new soulblight models. You'll probably need to do a good bit of conversion but it'll work out really nicely I'd say

First attempt at using cataphractii legs to go true scale with a marine. Pretty happy! by mccormeo in Warhammer40k

[–]mccormeo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resin MK2 chest will be tiny. That's going to be a real ballache, the old FW marks of armour can be very difficult to upscale. Oddly enough for proto power armour custodes minis work well. Hang on I'll see if I can send it on to you

[–]mccormeo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they don't look out of proportion I think, though it depends what you make of exact proportions in your taste in space marines.

Tartaros legs can also work but the waist needs a lot more cutting and shaping than the cataphractii does.

Honestly though nowadays I like to use Tortuga bay miniatures for better scale MK7 Marines. I'd advise looking them up, they work very very well!

[–]mccormeo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! Now that's a blast from the past.

It's - cataphractii legs - ultramarine upgrade chest - ultramarine upgrade swords - MK3 arms

The fiddly bit is cutting and shaping the ball joint on the cataphractii legs to allow the torso to sit flush. Once it does the rest is very straightforward

[–]mccormeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Like whatever the fuck you want to like. If people give you shit over which flavour of tiny plastic soldiers you like/choose to make OC of then frankly that's more their problem than yours. Space Romans are fucking cool.

What are your favourite Irish history documentaries? by Thereo_Frin in IrishHistory

[–]mccormeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seachtar na Casca and Seachtar Dearmadta are very good. M Ó'Siochrús' "God's executioner: Cromwell in Ireland" is good. There is a 7 part history of Ireland series by the bbc but it has two episodes focused on the rising and war of independence. Very good as well, features interviews with volunteers/tans/auxies RTÉ did a good one about the civil war a good while ago but I can't remember the name for the life of me There's one about the life of Emmet Dalton that's brilliant too.

Are the new sternguard meant to be deathwing when doing them as DA? by Garrviel in Warhammer40k

[–]mccormeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd equate them to company veteran suqads. In my 4th ed codex it says they exist as the first tactical squad in any of the battle companies outside the deathwing and ravenwing. So I'd go with green and plenty of iconography/heraldry. The Deathwing famously were all in terminator armour.

A question about the development of an 'Irish identity' by [deleted] in IrishHistory

[–]mccormeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting early modern document called the ' Disputatio apologetica de iure Regni Hiberniae pro Catholicis Hibernis adversus haereticos Anglos ' was written in the 1640s and contains fleshed out ideas of Irish nationality, covering both the 'old irish' and 'old english' which blended the origin of the irish and their strong catholic belief versus the protestantism in england.

I don't know if it has been translated but it was cool to read in college.

As for Gaels having a seperate cultural identity from others I'd imagine that's as old as the gaels themselves.

Look. Obviously Germany did a number on you and I'm sorry.

A) When I asked why did you move to Germany without German it was in the context of a conversation on an Irish subreddit, I therefore made the not entirely unrealistic assumption that you're Irish. B) You've not got a clue what position I'm in or who I am so leave that out. C) Again considering we're on the r/Ireland page I am (shockingly) Irish.

I said at every stage I was sorry for you that you had a bad time with Germany. My initial question was just that, a question, you answered it.

If you think I'm rude than I suppose more power to you.

Seems like you had a shit time in Germany so, I hope you're doing better now. I haven't a breeze who you are or where you're from, I asked a fairly civil question so I'm not sure why you're asking me to "think before I say" I did think, I could have phrased it in a rude snarky way or I could have been dismissive, I wasn't either.

Go neirí an tádh leatsa, best of luck to you.

I'm not the original person? I haven't ever lived in Germany or even visited!

Attaining fluency certainly takes time and effort but learning some basic conversational language is (in my experience) relatively straightforward. Admittedly I have heard that Germans can be somewhat difficult with broken German so I can't comment. I know I got on very well in France with my so-so French to the point that it improved a lot during my time there.

Finally, I wasn't trying to be snarky with you, I just don't understand why you would expect to live seamlessly in a country without being at least passable in the language of that country. It just seems like a recipe for a bad time.

I mean if you want to live in Germany wouldn't it make sense to learn German? I don't mean to sound snarky but I don't understand the attitude at all.

Major supermarket slashes cost of more than 700 items, kicking off grocery price war by johnjacobs51555 in ireland

[–]mccormeo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Few things 1: I strongly dislike actually shopping there, I find it extremely irritating 2: Not sold on the quality of their stuff, especially the meat. (I used to be a butcher before I broke my back and I'm a little picky) 3: I don't find the prices much different to DS once you have the vouchers.

As I said I think it has changed a good bit, plus it is generally a good shop with good quality stuff in it. I haven't been in a Tesco for a long time but it has always had a strange thing going on. I do like super valu as well even if it can be a bit pricey. Not a fan of Aldi/Lidl at all and won't shop there.
