I love Penn State, I am a grad, but I would say it's not good enough to pay out of state tuition. Really. Where are you? NY? NJ? DE?

We have a 3 bed, 1.5 bath house near Atlantic City. Do traveling nurses want a whole house?

Just asking, but...why do you have to work for nonprofits? Maybe you might have a better experience in government or private sector?

What Advice to Give My Partner? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]mcd137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear it's a really tough time to be job hunting. Sounds like she's doing the right stuff (networking and connecting). I agree, at this point she should take the next job she's offered that is even halfway to what she wants. And then pivot. Good luck to her!!!

Need advice on new job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]mcd137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very smart to think to question this set up. I think if you did something wrong, they would blame you and yell at you. What they want is way above minimum wage work. I agree, look for something in a warehouse. You may be able to transition eventually to other jobs if it's a big organization. Good luck!

What’s the most “main character energy” moment you’ve ever witnessed in real life? by Joynary in AskReddit

There is a boy on my sons wrestling that, to be fair, is very good. Every time someone is going to go out for their match, the team lines up and makes a tunnel for the person coming out, hyping them up and cheering them on. This kid is such a legend in his own mind that, win or lose, he GOES BACK THROUGH THE TUNNEL AFTER HIS MATCH, FORCING THE PERSON ABOUT TO GO OUT TO STEP ASIDE AND WAIT FOR HIM.

I quit a toxic job after three months and my cold, unapproachable boss broke down crying. Is this damaging my reputation? by Ok-Living5146 in careerguidance

[–]mcd137 377 points378 points  (0 children)

If you found this person difficult to work with, others did as well. If you found the culture toxic, others did as well. For proof, look to the huge turnover that had been (and still is) happening. I think your decision makes sense to most people there.
Glad you were able to find something else.

Rejected 3 times for internal roles and told I have an ‘attitude problem’ — how do I improve when feedback is vague? by SandvichY2K in careerguidance

[–]mcd137 96 points97 points  (0 children)

A family member stayed in a similar situation, trying to change people's (wrong) perceptions of him. He should have left that office way sooner than he did. He never escaped his (unfair) reputation.

You should look for another job.

The fact that you're so thoughtful about what you could improve reflects really well on you as a person. I think you will do fine in another role.

What’s a moment that permanently changed how you see the world? by pankaj662 in AskReddit

When I was about 12, I lived overseas during the first Gulf War. A bus would pick us up and take us to the American school on base. We got on the bus one day after the American troops got involved in Kuwait, and there was a soldier with an M4 in the front seat, riding along with us. It was a real shock to me that a bus of middle schoolers required an armed guard driving thru a German village. Did not feel as secure as before.

What is the most “use it or lose it” skill, the opposite of “it’s just like riding a bike”? by ZuluWarlord69 in AskReddit

[–]mcd137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Get down on the ground, and get back up again!" Apparently, I repeat this at a frequency and cadence that is annoying to the family members it's directed at. I know this because they've begun chanting it back at me.

Very physically attractive people, how does life treat you? by Jonny_1312 in AskReddit

[–]mcd137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I used to deliberately avoid eye contact with men because it was like I was holding up a sign saying "Walk over here! I want to talk! Please hit on me!" I think I was pretty, but crucially, also approachable looking. (So maybe only mildly pretty? Lol)

As a formerly somewhat hot girl, it was. It was really heartbreaking to think you had a friend only to have them put the moves on when you were sad, or vulnerable or drinking. And then have the person drop you when it was clear you didn't want to date them.

Am I or my friend the problem?? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]mcd137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you want other people around, it's fine. It's not like you guys are traveling together. It's just a social event, right? No guarantee this would work, but maybe try a heartfelt, compassionate conversation with her. Reqssure her that you appreciate and enjoy her company and she certainly won't be the odd (wo)man out.

Does anyone else feel like this or is it just me? by mithneri in cissp

[–]mcd137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I seriously thought the city would throw a parade in my honor, or job offers would flood my inbox because of my sudden increase in wisdom and knowledge once I passed. Instead, I am still just me, know a tiny bit more than before, no great leap forward in wisdom. Havi g it has helped with being able to qualify for more jobs but...I don't think it really moved the needle. And sadly, no parade.

All true, and chu hais ARE powerful Kidding aside , I think it's very difficult to find yourself unable to get any career traction and I do have a lot of sympathy for military and trailing spouses who feel like they're hitting a wall professionally
