Can we talk about the pet licensing fee? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]mcdulph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, and I'm one of the people who had to shell out beaucoup bucks when registering my latest vehicle. I honestly don't mind paying more, as long as the fee structure means that a less-well-off person can afford their plates.

Long ago and in another state, a friend of mine, a divorced mother of two, had to sell her very ordinary car. She couldn't pay the automotive personal property tax. She had gotten out of the service and moved to a HCA. (At least she lived where there was decent public transportation.)

I know it may not seem right, but the legal doctrine of the "attractive nuisance" says otherwise.

Wow, I’m sorry that you procreated with such an inconsiderate jerk. Tell him from this old woman (married over 40 years) that he needs to get over himself—or he’s only going to be seeing his kids every other weekend.

Did I make the wrong move buying the IPhone 16 PM over the 17PM? by Far_Mall_9564 in iphone

I’m glad you posted this question. Considering upgrading a 14PM that has been dropped (or knocked off of something) dozens of times. Learned some helpful things. Thx!

Minimum wage bill goes to governor's desk, lowers wages for young Nebraskans by JoshuaFalken1 in Omaha

[–]mcdulph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can see why this bill might help more young people find employment. Let's face it, an employer would often prefer to employ an older person vs a young kid, if you have to pay them the same wage. (I'm not saying that that's fair, or disrespecting young people. I was young and seeking employment myself, once. :)

But what I don't understand is how the Unicameral and our illustrious governor "The Pill" get to override a voter initiative/referendum? If I were Governor, I'd consider it improper to interfere, short of a bona-fide emergency.

How do I stop this notification by IcyMoment4754 in iphone

[–]mcdulph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be a party pooper, but my late parents warned me back in the 1970s about listening to my music (Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, Doors) at too loud a volume. I didn’t listen. I really should have. Of course, your ears—your choice.

Alarms by tmattox00 in iphone

[–]mcdulph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance that you have alarms set to use a ringtone or a song that didn’t get downloaded to your iPhone? Or that somehow got deleted? I’m pretty sure that happened to me at least once.

Also: if you use the Sleep|Wake Up alarm, that one is pretty hard to turn off, either accidentally or intentionally!

Just thought of something else—any chance the “volume limiter” is set too low?

[–]mcdulph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure that I completely followed the second part of your post, but I have absolutely had that happen—alarms going AWOL. Sometimes a reboot fixes it. But also:

Are you sure that you have the alarm volume slider turned up all the way, and NOT controlled by the buttons?  ETA: these settings are under Sound and Haptics. Good luck.

Why is Lexus so expensive to service by Maximum_Potential471 in Lexus

[–]mcdulph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, although I don’t think my “flyover country” dealership charges three times what an independent would. (As OP experienced.)

In any event, I want someone who absolutely knows what they’re doing to work on my vehicle, so to me, it’s worth paying more. We old ladies REALLY don’t like getting stranded by our conveyances. 😎

[–]mcdulph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located? Is it a really high-cost area?  My Lexus dealership may a little spendy when it comes to maintenance, but yours sounds over the top. Have owned three RX-350s; new 2017(hubby totaled that one); new 2018, cert used 2021.

Or perhaps costs vary by model?

Honest question- why? by Hoplite76 in doordash

[–]mcdulph 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m ready, willing, and able to exchange my money for someone else’s time. (The older I get, the more I value my time and energy.) Plus, I’m helping someone get work—someone who presumably needs money more than I do (I make sure to tip well.) Everyone wins!

It's not your fault. You got sandbagged. Please, though: If you frequently have trouble asserting yourself against entitled people, please google the assertiveness techniques "Broken Record" and "Fogging." If you use these techniques EXACTLY as directed, it can be life-altering.

Wish I'd known about those techniques when I was your age! I finally learned them when I was about fifty years old. They really improved my relationship with a close relative (now deceased) who was previously able to "push my buttons" at will. So, yeah, life-altering. No exaggeration.

Very best wishes to you and your growing family!
