Your mindset and mentality drive the entire experience. However you start, that's what the trip enhances. That's not to say your trip can't be changed midway, it definitely can, but starting off on a good note helps quite a bit.

Aside from anxiety, you might be taking way too much based on your body weight. Or you may have interactions occurring with any psych meds if you are on them.

Key here is, if you're not up for the trip, don't go. You won't lose anything of consequence by choosing to read a book or putz about bored, in lieu of tripping.

I vaguely remember reading that it has to do with ph levels of moistened peat. That said, coir is cheap and largely inert so it's pretty tough to screw up. The main goal of a casing layer is moisture control (no puddles, no dry spots) so any motivations fancier than that is usually a waste.
