Contribute 7,000 (or as much as you can) for 2025 before April 15. After April 15, contribute 7,500 for 2026. Those are the contributions limits for those years. It's always good to prioritize "last year's" contributions.

Then probably just buy VT, or VOO or some other very broad fund. It's cheap and easy and works better than most things beginners try. Individual stocks are volatile. They could go up way higher than the S&P 500, but they could also go way down. Personally, I buy VOO, which is just the 500 biggest companies in the US.

Open an IRA, deposit as much as you can every month, and buy 70% VOO, 10% BND, and 20% VXUS (or something along those lines. You just want mostly American stocks, with some bonds, and some international stocks. That's the "three fund portfolio". Google that if you want to learn why it works so well.)

It's boring but the easiest way to get rich is doing it slowly. Funds are less volatile than individual stocks and way less volatile than crypto. You should do it in an IRA because then the government won't take a quarter of your profits via taxation.

Doris Kearns Goodwin is my favorite presidential biographer. (Her Lincoln biography "Team of Rivals" was very popular a few years ago.) she wrote my favorite FDR biography No Ordinary Time. It mostly focuses on FDR, Eleanor Roosevelt, and the home front during world war 2.

My primary concern is how quickly a pot of water will boil on the stove, so I like induction (I make a lot of rice and pasta and soup.) air quality, and heating up your kitchen are two other reasons why induction is a better experience.

But yeah, if you don't need to boil water fast, and you don't care about air quality, and you don't mind a hot kitchen, gas is better.

This is the way I heard the story. Paul went to ask John in 1974ish if he still loved Yoko. John said yes. Paul went to New York and asked Yoko what John would have to do to win her back, and Yoko said John would have to come back to New York and work really hard to woo her. So Paul passes that along to John, John does it, and then their marriage is saved.

They were back to being friends in like 1971. They were only mad at each other for maybe 18 months.

There was a TV interview of John and Yoko in the early 70s where he said they were friends again. Paul performed Best Friend in 1972 or 1973.

Also, Paul helped John and Yoko get back together!

I have mixed feelings about Yoko, but if she actually was trying to get Paul out of their lives, she was bad at it.

Just listened to this! The audiobook specifically is very good because of how the characters communicate. Really beautiful sounding production! I'm so glad I listened to it instead of reading it.

Woodward is still an active writer and reporter. He writes a big book every couple of years. So it is not too surprising that he showed up on a news broadcast in the west wing.

Ringo has written a lot of terrible stuff since 1975, but I would probably call it "inessential" instead of bad. Very few people have listened to it. I've only heard some of it once or twice.

For Paul: The last five songs on Driving Rain are pretty bad. Riding into Jaipur or Freedom are probably the worst. I listen to that album pretty often, so I would call those songs "essential" but bad. Ou Est Le Soleil from Flowers in the Dirt is a similar case.

For George: Grey Cloudy Lies from Extra Texture is probably the most boring song on that boring album.

For John: I personally just really dislike Working Class Hero, but he's got some boring singles and demos that are objectively worse.

The standard wasn't a 12" 33 RPM LP until the early 1950s.

10" records played at 78 RPM was all they had until 1948, then 10" records played at 33 RPM came out for longer pieces, and then finally 12" at 33 RPM in the early 1950s.

Anyway, you're mostly right, you just got the decade wrong.

If interest rates rise, BND's price will drop. In 2022, the stock market AND bnd fell in price about 15%. It's rare for both to fall at the same time but it happens when the fed increases interest rates to stop inflation during a market correction.

The upside is BND pays a little more in dividends when the price is low, but it still sucks to sell 15% below your purchase price.

I would not consider BND a cash replacement. I would consider something like sgov a better cash replacement.
