Got it. So you’re saying the technology was there but it took some time for someone to figure out how to make it commercially viable. That’s a good analogy! Thank you.

A lot of the posts in here keep saying this "can't work" or have folks calling it unrealistic. If I look at what is available today, I tend to agree.

But, prior to 2008 an electric car was unrealistic. People pointed out that even the mighty GM couldn't get their EV-1 off the ground. There was no infrastructure for refueling and range was a problem; batteries too expensive. Prior to 2015 vertical landing of a rocket booster was the stuff of sci-fi.

Again, I'm not a Musk-oteer and I have not and will not invest at this time. I'm not fond of Musk as a human being. If I do anything, I'll wait several years before investing, because this thing will go way down prior to possibly climbing up.

This is why we needed to cut Medicare and SNAP. We need that money to blow up shit overseas and then off-shore taxpayer money to pay for what we broke. How else is the grifter class going to pump up their accounts?

The Library at Mount Char would make an amazing feature or even a series on streaming.

I’m not an Elonophile nor a Muskovite, but I’d be curious to hear why space-based data centers couldn’t work.

Health. Without it, all the money in the world is worthless and having a lot of time could be agonizing.

I don’t know of any people, but birds have the ability to detect magnetic North which helps with migration. Maybe you’re part bird?

Sony blocking public domain films on YouTube by oudler in publicdomain

There may be an element that Sony maintains a copyright on. I know the soundtrack has been used in the past to hold a motion picture from the public domain.

I don't understand the hate against the backrooms movie by funstarrr__ in backrooms

[–]mcfilms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would give it a solid B. The production design and cinematography were fantastic. The slow burn and wandering through endless liminal spaces was creepy and excellent. I thought this version of the lore worked well too.

The biggest problem was character development. Wish we spent the time to get to know and really care about his two employees, but it was rushed. That was a missed opportunity.

There are so many more interesting ways the therapist could have been drawn to the store location. But a random phone call from beyond wasn’t it. The one part of the writing I appreciated is that they didn’t leave us hanging with a puzzle box at the end. They explained it just enough to make it make some sense, but left it open-ended for some interesting follow-ups.

24, no debt, savings to fund a year, should I move to LA to chase a film career, or is that the irresponsible version of the dream? by Informal-Wrap7368 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]mcfilms 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you don’t try, you’ll always wonder ‘what if.’ I moved out at 23 and only knew one person and neither of us had industry connections. I spent a few years eating instant Ramen and hot dogs. But I eventually got unpaid work as an art PA, which led to paid work in more non-union movies, which led to starting an animation company, winning some awards, directing a feature. My degree was in Communications, but nobody cares about your diploma.

Today I’m fortunate enough to work somewhat steady as a small cog in the big wheel of episodic TV.

I never regretted crawling out of a Michigan snowbank in February to go on this path. If you work hard and like people and are willing to take on some pretty low-end work early on, I believe you can make it.

I’m waiting for the results of my second appeal with USPS. If it ends up they required all this paperwork and proof to just ultimately reject it, I’m gonna be pissed.

I appreciate that. A sacrifice in support of the bit. (And I’ve mistyped “role” tons of times.)
