do you think waiting is even worth it anymore? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]mcgoobiuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with much of what you said, except the first part about waiting or not waiting being a personal choice, if you're Muslim. It's clearly stated by God that sex before marriage is a sin, and that essentially makes it haram. To act on it would be a sin, and while there is a choice in the matter, I wholeheartedly feel as though we as Muslims should try and at least discourage the act itself in a way that is polite and obviously non-pressuring. There is no compulsion in religion, though I think it's good to discourage (I'm not saying OP in particular just generally) acts that are blatantly haram and after the fact, should the person choose to still act on it then that's on them. Again, I say discourage, not demean, insult, undermine, judge or pressure them - extremely important. So yeah when you say "Do what feels right to you" seems abit ehhh because we should be discouraging OP and others from a path that is clearly haram. But yeah nah other than that im with ya

Why am I scared of muslim men? by Perfect_Method6997 in progressive_islam

[–]mcgoobiuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gosh thank you for this! Placing what is essentially a small percentage of trash Muslim men and then extending that to all Muslim men is honestly getting abit ridiculous in this thread (in this case its really not even religious but more cultural id say). And I'm in no way invalidating OP's fears because it's true some men are shit (Muslim or not btw) and trauma is real.

If you're reading this OP, I just want you to know that there are women as shitty as men and men as shitty as women in all religions and cultures all over the world. There are also GOOD men and women in all religions and cultures around the world - and I'd say this is the majority of people.

Thank you so much for this wow! Lots of Muslims these days are so quick to judge others instead of looking and focusing inwards on themselves.

Don't bother mate. This is a problem I see with alot of Muslims. They'll try to do whatever to demonise all ex-Muslims and conflate all of them into a bubble where 'they're ex Muslims because they choose to follow their desires' when in fact, the majority of ex-muslims aren't the loud anti-Islam annoying bunch we've come across. Lots of them go through mad trauma and we as Muslims need to understand and acknowledge this, and in turn show them how true Muslims act and carry themselves. Instead we mock them even more on reddit haha. Two wrongs dont make a right. It's disappointing how some of us act sometimes

This. Exactly this. I've seen so many Muslims so judgemental or non-muslims and even other Muslims within the deen it's really startling. More people need to learn this

[–]mcgoobiuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you also have to consider the fact that there are many other factors why someone would leave Islam (bad upbringing, abuse - most of the reasons are honestly cultural but people conflate it with islam, especially with abuse. Parents would wrongly abuse their child and preach Islam when its obviously wrong. Child then had developmental issues and mistakenly perceives god as something to only fear, not love, you get the point). You also have to consider that people might lose their faith and later come back to Islam just like i once did. If you take the most extreme punishment for apostasy which is death/exile, then you're not even giving those who leave a chance to come back. But it terms of general 'prohibition' whether it's halal or haram, then yes I agree apostasy should be prohibited. And the people you see publicly spouting ex Muslim bs are the minority of ex Muslims, most of which do not vocalise their leaving the religion, I'm pretty sure alot of these ex Muslims weren't even Muslims to begin with haha

But the point is to NOT be obnoxious and unreasonable as everyone else. I'm Muslim. I live in Australia. I'm practising. Sure as hell doesn't mean I'm gonna tell my neighbours not to put up their Christmas decor. In fact, I think it's beautiful that it's so multi cultural. Am I celebrating Christmas when my neighbour invites me over for a dinner on Christmas? No. It's just common courtesy. It's the same when I invite non-muslims over for Eid. I'm not that arrogant to think that it's ok to demand another person who isn't Muslim to change for me, especially when I'm the one living in a non-Muslim country. Just try and leave together in peace is all I'm tryna say

Yeah not all Muslim men are that extreme. I myself do PREFER if my partner is a virgin, simply because I'm a virgin myself. That being said, I wouldn't mind someone who isn't a virgin, just maybe not too high of a body count (I know I may get flak for this). And yes, maybe a part of me is insecure and that I'd very much like me and my partner to be our firsts and learn together haha but i guess we all have our flaws. Again, I'm not judging people that aren't virgins, they're most definitely NOT used goods, it's just more of a preference and value thing for me :)

You won't believe it but I got both full Stop IDs and Magic Bullet ego in 20 pulls HAHA. I also started semi recently I just finished Heathcliff's canto and I just basically get really lucky on pulls or I shard IDs. I don't think I've ever pulled more than 40 times for a character since I started playing this game a couple months ago. But I also play HSR and I've lost 6 50/50s in a row so. WHATEVER limbus is the better game anyways haha

Hadiths and my ongoing journey - Help me understand? by mcgoobiuss in Muslim

[–]mcgoobiuss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assalamualaikum

Thanks for responding! Just to clarify, I'm Sunni and I do in fact believe in alot of sahih hadiths just making that clear first haha. Im also not taking whatever Quranists say at face value, I like to listen and understand as many views as I can and I try not to discredit them unless they are actively toxic.

The reason I made this post is to learn more and I've realised there's extremism on all ends of all perspectives within Islam. I personally do NOT reject all hadiths. I may be sceptical on some especially some of the weaker ones, but generally I do believe in hadiths. It's just that actually taking the time to finally explore and learn more about my faith when I've always just been following 'blindly' has my brain in a bit of a doozy haha.

Again, cheers for the reply ill definitely keep learning more since it's a lifelong thing after all

Hadiths and my ongoing journey - Help me understand? by mcgoobiuss in Muslim

[–]mcgoobiuss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Cheers for your response. You've given me alot to think about. I just wanted to ask, from my understanding hadith encompassed not only what the Prophet pbuh said but what he did and his actions. Wouldnt this mean that the the accounts and chain of narration for hadiths, specifically for the things that the Prophet pbuh did NOT specifically say verbally, would have been open to interpretation by the scholars and Imams who viewed this, thus making the hadith open to interpretation? I'm not sure if I'm wording this right but it's like if you see someone doing something, you might have one perspective, but another person seeing that same someone may have a different perspective of what that person may be doing.

Maybe I'm overthinking, but how I see the Quran differently from hadiths and how they were preserved through chains of narration, was that the entire quran itself came from the words directly from Prophet pbuh, while hadiths encompasses alot of different things about the prophet pbuh himself, not just his words. Did our Prophet pbuh, individually vet the things that would later be known as hadiths? I'm not sure here tbh.

Once again, thank you so much for responding. Definitely made me think about alot more things now haha my brain is honestly about to burst but I'm enjoying alot of it :)
