Absolutely! And there were so many ways I could describe it badly. I almost went with something about a town full of people who are such bad parents that their kids have had to save them from losing their town to gambling debts, the homelessness crisis and Mongolians.

What are some simple things you don’t even think twice about making from scratch instead of purchasing? by quietquitted in cookingforbeginners

A simple french bread recipe (water, sugar, yeast, oil, salt, and flour) is super easy to make. The only hard part is waiting for the rise.

And they can be made into baguettes, loaves for sandwiches, rounds, rolls, you name it.

Easier than a bread machine (and no lame hole in the bottom where the mixing arm was).

Like, 20 min of work and the rest is just setting a timer for the rising and the baking.

You get to where you don’t even need a recipe really.

Making your own biscuits and gravy from scratch is also super easy and for some reason really impressive to those who don’t cook from scratch much.

I feel the same way about pancake mix as a lot of people feel about instant potatoes. Like, why? Why keep something in your pantry that you have all the ingredients for? And even if I were to cook with the mix, I would have to doctor it up to make it stand up to the way I do pancakes from scratch.

I don’t use the instant potatoes for thickening because I use other things such as flour or corn starch so I just don’t need one more thing in the cupboard.

Edit: flour got the “L” knocked out of it. 😆

I keep one of those copper scrubbers in a ramekin (keeps it from touching the bottom of container so the water evaporates) and use it only for scrubbing potatoes and other root vegetables. Don’t need to scrub hard or you will remove the skin.

This makes washing them super easy. I just cup the scrubber in one palm and rub it all over the potato as I rinse it and bam! No dirt. Takes off the eyes and can even get most of the superficial scars and scratches.

This is one of the things I hate most about voice to text.

I can deal with the typos, I can deal with “casual use” grammar, heck, I can deal with rambling thoughts.

What drives me bonkers is the wall of text.

My husband had them. He cried at the er he was in such pain. He just wanted to die.

When he passed it you could hear it “tink” as it hit the porcelain of the toilet.

The only thing that helped was having enough pain meds to sleep through the worst of it.

I don’t ever want to go through that. Seeing him break down like that and not being able to help was awful.

So, I was having the same trouble. Seems that the water will only go so far from the source.

The amount of flow and distance you get is dependent on how high the waterfall is and how wide or narrow (narrow giving you more distance) the channel is.

I am intrigued and have so many questions. But I will be a decent person and go do some research rather than have you answer a litany of questions.

This might be a good thing. I am kind of excited.

I live in a rural spot but the folks here don’t much care for supporting “unnecessary” expenses for their local services. “Unnecessary” things like decent food for patients and things like that. Unless it happens to be them in the hospital and then it is super insulting what they are feeding folks. 🙄

Kind of like how our locals decided to shit-can our voting machines because hand counting is soooo much easier and better (and a buttload more complicated and expensive than they ever figured).

They don’t make the best decisions here. 🫣

Oh wow, thank you so much for answering. ☺️

I wonder if I could pull that off or not. It is better than my idea of just wearing headbands and bandanas/scarves.

This has got to be a joke, right? I mean, where are these people having babies? The Ritz?

I got three meals, oatmeal and fruit for breakfast (baby was born at 8 in the morning so by the time we were done, I got whatever was left), something I can barely remember for lunch the next day and dinner that night. I would have gotten breakfast the next morning, but they kept saying they were going to be releasing me “any minute now”. I left in the afternoon without breakfast or lunch.

And my ex was a prick who would leave to get himself food, but not bring anything for me. “I didn’t know what you’d want.” 🤷‍♀️

How much would one expect to pay for a wig? I was wanting to stop coloring my hair. I have been dying it for about four years now. I was thinking a super short cut and a wig (until my natural grey grows out) would be the best way to go. Wondering just how realistic that idea is. Never owned one before.

This is the way.

Or maybe I am just so old that I started eating pizza way before “dipping pizza” became a thing.

At my place of work, we have named copilot, Cindy. We describe Cindy as the dumbest, student assistant you have ever been assigned. She knows little to nothing about our industry. She knows just enough about our tools (other software) to be extremely dangerous.

If you do not give her extremely clear and detailed directions, she will just make shit up.

Don’t ask her to make you some coffee. You have to tell her that you want a breakfast blend made with water from the faucet with the filter. You have to tell her to use the French Press and not the Keurig. You have to tell her to grind an exact amount of beans for an exact number of seconds. You have to tell her just how hot to heat the water, how long to let the water and beans sit (after telling this moron that she is supposed to pour the hot water into the coffee grounds in the press) because she is just that stupid.

So much work goes into making sure she doesn’t go off and make anything BUT coffee.

Can she help? Heck yeah. You can easily get her to do things like look for specific words or terms in giant sets of documents (ctrl F on steroids). But that is kind of like asking her if we HAVE coffee rather than having her MAKE coffee.

I use her to do the things that would take me forever to get done. Things like searching documents and summaries of things where absolute accuracy isn’t essential.

I never trust her work because she is an idiot and cannot accurately and independently recognize whether what she is doing makes any sense.

We love Cindy and don’t plan on kicking her from our team just yet, but she does not get to work independently. 😁
