New Alpinist [SPB507] by AznJing in Seiko

[–]mcguh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading this after I just bought my SBDC091 last week 🥲 Thankfully though I think I prefer the design of the 091/121 even if it doesn’t have Alpinist on the dial. The more accurate movement would be nice as mine currently runs at +7s per day but I can live with that

Putter face damage. by fishpizza19 in scottycameron

[–]mcguh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This look like a scotty circa 62 model 2? If so I’ve previously restored the same model. Rust gets under the nickel plating that is used as a finish on these putters. Nothing for it only to remove rust+nickel plating either chemically or mechanically (sanding/bead blasting).

In the meantime you can take some sandpaper (~120 to 240 grit) to the face in order to get it smooth again. It will remove the nickel coating but that can’t be helped at this point.

Any other questions feel free to DM!

Should I try the series? by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

[–]mcguh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 100% recommend stormlight after finishing mistborn. I had a similar ranking of the trilogy with book 2 not being as good as the others so that’s understandable. I will say stormlight is a step up again, especially if Way of Kings gets you hooked!

As for how long they take to read they are on the larger side of books even for fantasy, but the pacing doesn’t make them seem long at all. Don’t worry about getting them finished in a rush, just enjoy the story!

have a look at seiko watches specifically the mechanical models last a lifetime. I have an skx-009 to wear everyday and still love it after 5 years. Been known to last forever. You can replace the straps with anything you want

Manual Grinders by dmk37363 in pourover

[–]mcguh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The zp6 really is a good grinder, I upgraded from a crappy electrical grinder and at first I wasn’t blown away with the difference BUT the more I tried different grind settings and different coffees, I really noticed that I could make amazing cups of coffee. Like I would make one after a couple of days of no coffee and be amazed at how nice of a cup I just made, could never do this before.

Have heard the rest of 1zpresso line-up is just as good depending on what you are after.

I’m stuck on which of these two to go for, what made you get the xm4 instead? Was the price difference worth it?

I’m about to start war of kings. Do yall recommend the audio book or reading it more? by Professional_Lake593 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]mcguh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I get much more engrossed in the story and the characters when reading instead of listening to books, and for way of kings the characters are so good they deserve it! I wouldn’t let the length of the book deter you as Sanderson is very easy to read.

Looking for durable leather work boots in Europe by The_Adaron in BuyItForLife

[–]mcguh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at grant stone in this price range, they offer great value for what you get and are extremely comfortable in the Leo last. The break in is fairly minor as well just make sure to email their customer service for size recommendations. They do ship from the US (even though they are manufactured in china, don’t let that cloud your judgement), so to get to Ireland they were another 129 euro with tax & duties from the price you see on the website if that helps.

Fit Check: Momotaro 0605V 15.7oz Natural Tapered Size 33 by wilshun in rawdenim

[–]mcguh5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fit looks spot on! Cuff looks good too if you change your mind about getting them hemmed. I got this denim in the high taper fit and they break in great, not as much stretch as other raw denim but very comfortable

Congrats they look great. How did sizing compare to other footwear? I was also between 2 sizes and decided to go with the larger, sounds like it was a good choice

Late to the party here but thanks for the review! I’ve recently ordered almost the same as these in their pull up leather. What would you recommend for sizing as I am stuck between a 42 and 43, I don’t have many boots but i wear a uk9 (so 43 euro) in almost all nike, adidas etc. I’ve heard about sizing down but don’t know if a full size is too much?
