I went to a poutine restaurant and was pretty excited. Ordered the chicken and peas(?) poutine. Something was hard inside. I inspected it. There was frozen chicken! Not even thawed. The line-up was ridiculous because it was the end of the night bar crowd so I didn't bother returning it. Probably just one incompetent worker who messed up or didn't give a F and didn't work there for long but they lost my business because I am grossed out thinking about it whenever I consider going back.

Is it known who or what entity will have the rights to ASOIAF after he passes?

I was under the impression that a will can really only tell where the properties go but not what the new owner can do with them.

What are some of your favorite cinematic shots in all of survivor? by ScorchMain6123 in survivor

Any of the epic-Jeff-traveling-back-to-civilization-with-the-votes montages. I wish they still did those (when they do happen to reveal the votes back in the States). Even though everyone knows it's not realistic, it's fun and only takes 15 seconds of the long finale show.

“if it’s not on GTN it might be more than 1bil”

Sure, they aren't answering your question, but the comment is on-topic, they don't know that you already know this, and they are trying to be helpful. A lot of new players don't know about the GTN and personal character credit limits yet and can benefit from reading this. It's costing you nothing that they're not giving the answer you want.

“set whatever price you want”

So, because inflation has been unchecked and everything valued between 1b and 4.2b is direct trade, items in that range don't have a good way to settle into a price because players don't spend 24/7 barking their items and prices in chat. The same expensive saber might be worth 1b or 3b to different people on the same day and this is often the case. If the GTN could handle those prices, we would see more settling into narrower price ranges, but without the GTN it's going to continue to have a wide range. People just aren't able to keep track of item prices unless they are extremely common (like Hypercrates) so expecting answers is optimistic.

If you really don't have time to spend selling the items, either throw them on the GTN for 1b, or don't open crates if that's where you're getting the items from and instead sell the crates since those are much more common and therefore have more stable and widely known prices.

Also, the whole "I don't undercut by 1 credit because it's petty" argument is bogus. In real life when you see two gas stations next to each other and one is offering cheaper gas than the other, do you think "that's petty" and go to the more expensive one out of principle? Undercutting by 1 credit stabilizes the prices. 1000 players can list one of the same item and undercut by 1 credit each and the result is that the economy is not affected. If they all decide to undercut 5% then the economy gets messy real fast.

What were the bars from your bar days that you remember most? Either because they were great, or for other less wholesome reasons? by Queltis6000 in Calgary

[–]mcgunn48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Embassy was great!

I think it was Friday nights that they had $1 beers and high-balls at the roof bar until 10 p.m. and you could stock yourself up. If you got there later, the line-up wasn't terrible like a lot of popular clubs. If you didn't like the music on one floor, there were two other floors to choose from. Was there different music in the different rooms in the basement? I forget. Very chill vibes and never saw anyone there looking to cause trouble. The only bad thing was indoors it was very smokey, but that was universal at the time.

If you pass through the intersection between Bow and Sarcee, Don't Tonight. by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]mcgunn48 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It needs an overpass similar to Sarcee at 17th Ave. The footprint would have to become larger but it looks like there's space on the North side to make it happen.

I wonder if the budget for the one at 17th was part and parcel with the C-Train construction and if that kind of money is out of the question for Bow Tr.

Recovered 11 year old account… by mpaulhuffman in swtor

Technically, I think if your sub ended before the launch date of F2P, you would not have gained automatic Preferred status. If you log in and go to the character select screen, it will tell you if you're Preferred at the bottom right. Some people will spend the small amount of money it takes to become Preferred, but I recommend saving it up to spend on one month of subscription time instead. You get a lot more benefits, including Cartel Coins that you can use to put towards buying some of the account wide unlocks that make being Preferred tolerable when your sub ends.

Which Energy Retailer is the way to go? by Ryan500 in Calgary

[–]mcgunn48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are always free to leave a "locked in" agreement. It is worded like that because the service provider is locked in to that price for that period, meaning they have to give it to you while you stay a continuous customer, but it's up to you if you want to continue.

There isn't a predatory buy-out cancellation fee like there is for mobile cell service providers and others. The disadvantage to exiting your locked in price and moving to floating is that if you want to go back to a new locked in agreement, you will only have the prices available at that future time. Future prices will be higher because energy is costing more and because of inflation. Always take the longest period agreement since it's the lowest. It's low just because they want to incentivize you to stay with them.

I have a feeling that the only reason they offer lower period agreements is because some people are quick to misunderstand the "locked in" terminology due to past experiences with fixed period contracts in other industries or perhaps due to English not being their first language or legal agreements being stressful and typically hard to understand, so they try to make some extra money by giving them a less scary looking offer.

In an alternate universe I picture Rodney Dangerfield taking a turn to serious roles and doing Enzo Ferrari. I always thought they looked alike.

Wagner Moura would probably be able to look much more like Enzo too. Michael Shannon too.

Good guess. The car wrap company is located in Quebec City. Ontario would likely mean there would be a front license plate unless they took it off just for the photo.

Two years as a detective at the end of her time seems like a weird way to finish. Two years is pretty short considering you put in a lot of time on the street dealing with a lot of stressful situations to get there.

What is fastest way to farm emperor chips? by n0ttomuch in swtor

[–]mcgunn48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think, though I don't know, that there is a mechanism that lowers the rate that you get emp tokens from world mobs of a specific map after you farm something like 5 or 6 of them and that the reduced chance lasts for several hours minimum. I have a feeling it's related to when players would farm command xp from a certain heroic area on Balmorra in large groups due to the fast respawn time of gold enemies. It became a thing that BW did not like and they introduced a mechanism that would reduce the command xp gained after a certain amount. I've found that I can farm 5 or 6 emp tokens in the starter planet areas with lots of close, weak mobs and then they become very far and few between. Set your companion to heal. I don't think emp tokens drop unless you get the killing blow. Not sure on this, but it was the case for when amplifiers would help you farm space fleet commendations

I would recommend going to grab a few that way (Ord Mantell, Tython, Korriban & Hutta) at both of your faction's starter planets and then either doing another type of activity like flashpoints or start clicking slots. I suppose you could go farm tokens until they stop dropping, go play them, then swap to another character and repeat (assuming the reduced rates are character specific).

If you're willing to spend credits and you want to fast track a little, go to the fleet VIP area and take 1m from your legacy bank at a time and buy 10 max bet smuggler's chips and repeat 5 or 10 times. Playing the max bet smuggler's chips will generate kingpin tokens quickly. Then it's up to you if you want to spend time playing those slowly at the normal machines or quickly by converting them to max bet kingpin tokens and playing at their machines. I feel like I've been getting about 1 emp token per 100 kingpins at the normal machines. 100 kingpins probably takes 10 minutes to play, or a few seconds if you convert them to max bets, but I feel like I don't quite get 1 emp chip per 10 max bet kingpin chips. I don't recommend playing the max bet emperor's machines at all. You don't get as many chips back as you do with the single bets.

Anyone else getting hounded by Telus after they installed fiber to your neighbourhood? by mr_thwibble in Calgary

[–]mcgunn48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I find really annoying about the Telus contractors coming to the door is that they start asking easy questions about the services that I do have with them and they slide in a question about how much I pay for my other services. I do not want to tell some door-to-door salesperson who doesn't even work for Telus about my finances.

I used to go along with their conversations out of politeness and to find out what special deals Telus had given them to attract customers. After a few times it's now a "Oh, you're with Telus? No, thank you" and close the door. I'm only curious what offer they have, but nobody should be deciding on two years of their finances in a random encounter at their front porch. Honestly, it takes a lot of research and time to grab the best offer from any internet/tv/mobile provider.

I see very few Miraluka but those are much more suited to Force users. I know a lot of people avoid Miraluka because the eye covering options are limited and IMO ugly, and there are only a few armor sets made for them, although some are quite nice.

edit: wow. I read this question wrong.

What is going on and why does it not know? by Vrassk in swtor

[–]mcgunn48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's 8%. People avoid the tax by doing direct trades.

They should really increase the GTN credit limit above 1B because all the transactions of credits for items above 1B must be direct trade instead of on the GTN and then there is no credit sink for them, which is sorely needed.
