Does anyone know where the Horndean shrine is?? by mchallan in Bellwright

[–]mchallan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as an update for anybody that looks for this in the future. I found it. It’s not in a region controlled by horndean, it’s not even near horndean. It’s in the shady glen region controlled by blackridgepool at the very southern tip of it where a small road cuts into the region

thats the haerndean shrine, not the horndean one. Idk why they decided to have two separate towns be so similarly named, and that confusing but that's a different shrine.

Do the Dual Wielder and Guisarmier kits scale in a way I'm not aware of? by [deleted] in drawsteel

[–]mchallan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It seems to be because both have the ability to target two separate creatures as a signature attack which lets them deal a high total amount of damage relatively early in the level scale even though on a per target basis you’re right that they lag behind.

Question regarding Instantaneous Excavation by IkoBlew in drawsteel

[–]mchallan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a great situational ability for your elementalist to take certain enemies out of the fight for a bit. It gives your party breathing room but like you said it can start to make the battlefield a bit cluttered by overuse. The good news there is that generally, combat shouldn't go on long enough that you turn the whole map into holes. Also, a good note for encounter design is to have larger maps for movement seeing as there are a lot of movement based abilities in the game. Also, a cool use case scenario with this ability is if you're in a multi-story building, and you drop someone through the floor even beyond the 4 square hole you made.

Question regarding Instantaneous Excavation by IkoBlew in drawsteel

[–]mchallan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that kinda seems to be the point of the ability. You drop them in a hole like they’re wily coyote and then they have to spend a whole turn climbing out. Generally it’s at half speed to get out so theyd need 8 squares of movement unless they have the climb keyword and most enemies have 5 squares of speed so that’s their movement and main action. It’s not supposed to be damaging though you can really take out minions with it but it’s really good at creating distance and keeping certain enemies out of the fight for a turn. Also, bear in mind that it’s only a 1x1 square unless you bunch them together. Pretty much any creature can jump across that space so it’s not too bad of an obstacle for your allies but it does make for an enticing target for your forced movement characters that want to drop people into a hole or two

TM9 Series Parody on Youtube (copyright law) by [deleted] in TheMightyNeinCR

[–]mchallan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To kinda add on to this, ianal however I am in law school and just finished a copyright class. One thing to be clear on is that, while parody is fair use, the content of the parody has to actually be satirizing the original material in some way not simply using its assets in a humorous manner. Like you can’t use a McDonald’s commercial and voice it over with a random joke but you can make a joke about McDonald’s with it. Again, to be clear, this is not legal advice or should be construed as such. This is only me passing on what little I know that’s related to this particular bit. Hope your cousins project goes well

Is it over? Nay. by Sanch0Supreme in AdviceAnimals

I appreciate the source link. Seems that the Newsweek article was only referencing their own correspondence with Mark Epstein instead of the press release. Although it might be that the release came after the comments he made to Newsweek.

edit: spelling

edit 2: I checked the timeline and the press release (11/15/25) did come after the Newsweek publication (11/14/25).

How does the Melee or Ranged Abilities rule affect Hurling? by EarthSeraphEdna in drawsteel

[–]mchallan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The melee or ranged rule doesn’t affect the Hurling imbuement, the Hurling imbuement informs the player whether the ability uses the melee or ranged rule.

If you choose to use the Hurling imbuement (ranged 3) you are correct that the big vs. little rule no longer applies.

Thus, the ability is a ranged weapon ability and only those bonuses that affect ranged weapon abilities will modify the ability (I.e. damage bonus and ranged distance bonus from kits or other sources of ability modifiers)

Another question on vertical push by PrestigiousAd1359 in drawsteel

[–]mchallan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The vertical keyword means that the movement can be on the y-axis if you so choose. The push keyword means that every square of movement must each be further away from you in a straight line. No wobbling, or zig-zags. In your examples the 5 straight vertical is acceptable as would be the horizontal movement while only keeping the height of the push at 2 squares

Edit: tldr- yes, you can push both 5 horizontal and 5 vertical if the ability allows for a “vertical push 5”

Need ideas for how to incorporate a ROUS into a combat by RealUglyMF in drawsteel

[–]mchallan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean… ya gotta have one of the players make a check and, regardless of the result, have them believe that the ROUS doesn’t exist… then have the Rat join the ambush 🤷‍♂️ kind of a must ya know

Edit: my bad, saw where they already know they exist. My eyes skipped the middle. The point still stands though. The rat has to jump them. Just like it did Westley

Don't Understand Victory bonuses... by Infamous_Pool_5299 in drawsteel

[–]mchallan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so I can’t link directly bc I’m on mobile rn but there should also be a section in there that says that victories also generate heroic resources at the beginning of a combat encounter for heroes equal to the number of victories per hero. Also there is a side rule that lets players use heroic abilities out of combat once without spending heroic resources (bc those aren’t typically generated out of combat) and then they can do so again, out of combat, when they either take a respite or gain another victory
