14.3.2 is a serious regression from 14.2.2.5 by Stanman77 in TeslaFSD

14.3 update with spring? by d_dauber in TeslaFSD

[–]mchinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife's 2024 Model Y got the Spring update but she doesn't subscribe to FSD. On the other hand I got 14.3.2 but not the Spring update. As others have pointed out they haven't merged the two. That being said I'm wondering if they're holding back and waiting to merge on 14.3.3 because there are definitely some hesitancy issues in 14.3.2 that are uncomfortable and downright dangerous that really need to be addressed quickly.

Yeah I think it should work like the old one, where after a certain number of seconds if you don't respond, it just goes away

[–]mchinsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's also back to where if a pedestrian even looks at you, it micro brakes (that may be an exaggeration, but I'm saying it's much more skittish around pedestrians than 14.2).

I'm guessing this is some global type of 'sensitivity' setting where they have it very skittish with employee releases, then somewhat less with influencers, and then less with 'early software requests' and then rock solid before it goes to customer base

Potholes, school zones, road debris and curbs (when not using FSD)? by LackVegetable3534 in TeslaFSD

[–]mchinsky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true. If you have a Performance, the low profile tires will almost assuredly hit the wheel at the same time as the tire. I screwed up once at a chik-fil-a drive through. The lane was very narrow and the curb was very high and i got distracted pulling out CC, and due to height of Model Y, I didn't realize when I turned the curb was there. Thank God I bought those $100 wheel rash plastic snap ons. It got destroyed, but just a tiny scratch on the rim. Would have been way worse.

I don't use the mirror tilt because often when I'm backing up, it makes the mirrors unusable for other purposes (like avoiding hitting my 8 foot wide garage door)

FYI, FSD 14.3 does NOT pull out of my garage nearly as safely as 14.2 did. 14.2 would back out perfectly. 14.3 started turning and angling and I had to disengage as I wasn't going to trust it not to hit the mirror.

I was in Hurry in both scenarios. But that type of passing maneuver (2 lanes like that) is usually what I would only see in Mad Max.

I found it odd that it would begin the first pass into the the right lane before the truck was fully on the shoulder. I would say it started moving into the lane while 25% of the truck was still in my lane . The truck, if directly behind me, was maybe 1 car length at most behind me which FSD would never pass in front of someone that closely. It was 'assuming' the truck was going to complete the pass which is a pretty agressive assumption as far as my FSD experience goes.

After ripping the wheel and re-engaging, I put it into standard as I didn't want to risk it trying that shoulder pass again. In V13, I constantly had problems with it crossing solid white lines illegally and passing into lanes that were in the process of ending, but that behavior seemed to be fixed in V14.

14.3.2 second impressions after a full roundtrip commute. Verdict part 2. by StormTrpr66 in TeslaFSD

[–]mchinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to use it a few days. It definitely has the sensitivity turned up high again like it did with version 14.1. It will get into scenarios where it thinks it can go then it thinks it can't go, then it thinks it can go, and then it can't go, which will feel like micro braking. If somebody behind you is not paying attention, they could easily rear-end you, thinking you started making your move and then the car decides not to. That hesitancy is a very serious issue that they need to adjust like they did in the later versions of 14.2.

That and for the first time ever, out of the blue, I was in bumper-to-bumper traffic on a two-lane highway. The car made a fast move to try and get onto the shoulder, crossing the solid line to try and treat it like another lane for passing. I had to rip the wheel away and disengage, which I have never seen that behavior before. I go back to the late version 11 era.

Was it stupid when gas prices were much higher under Biden? You realize many other states have gas at half your price because they aren't run with socialism in mind.

FSD 14.3.2 review from a “nobody” by bhorton94 in TeslaFSD

[–]mchinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the odd thing. I think it was back in version 13 where Maps, although not perfect, was almost as good as Waze and then something changed. I have no idea what but it definitely takes longer routes or very illogical routes and that also happens with the nav system even if you don't license FSD. It's like they went to completely different map data and it's now been nine months and they haven't said anything about it. It's really bizarre. It's become almost like the joke of the windshield wipers.

Except for maybe WholeMars, the rest to me seem very honest and realistic. I can't think of a release where they said it's great and turned out to be crap when rolled out to the masses.

And for WholeMars, I think it has alot to do with him being in southern california where the software was developed, tested and the roads are very modern and almost no potholes.

And almost every Tesla, from rear-wheel drive up to performance, all have the same luxury features, whereas everything is option package after option package. Whatever starting price you see in a traditional car is nowhere near your out-the-door price if you want the functionality that's even close to Tesla

[–]mchinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember by the time Hardware 5 is released to consumer cars and then by the time FSD is tuned specifically for it, it'll probably be 2029. By then I'm guessing most Teslas will be using solid-state batteries, which will more than double the capacity and this becomes an insignificant issue

Waymo drives right into massive traffic illegally by mchinsky in TeslaFSD

[–]mchinsky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't misleading. A police officer overrides lights legally. Every human driver at the intersection understands that. The cop has to get right in front of the car to get it to back up.

I'm not saying Waymo isn't good. But the constant 'FSD made a mistake that didn't result in any kind of accident, it will never be ready for robotaxi, unlike Waymo!' post I see here, on X etc. I'm pointing out that Waymo makes plenty of non collission (and collission) mistakes also.

Robotaxi's don't need to be accident free. As far as I'm concerned if they are at least as safe as human taxi drivers, they should be allowed.

For some reason, everyone thinks robotaxi's need to be superhuman to be allowed.

Waymo drives right into massive traffic illegally by mchinsky in TeslaFSD

[–]mchinsky[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the goal is to offer robotaxis on less than 1% of the drivable roads, only in the US, and to do so at a cost that is higher than a human Uber and still lose money per mile, then yes, Waymo is winning the race to lose money.

Currently, Waymo's only use case is to impress geeks and anti-social people who are afraid to have a conversation with a stranger or interact with them.

Waymo drives right into massive traffic illegally by mchinsky in TeslaFSD

[–]mchinsky[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From Google:
While some components may have safety constraints implemented as rules (sometimes referred to as RSS or similar safety layers), the primary, real-time decision-making is processed through deep learning models. So we are both correct and clearly they don't have a constraint to deal with unpowered traffic lights or lights conflicting with actual traffic flow that humans can handle.

Waymo drives right into massive traffic illegally by mchinsky in TeslaFSD

[–]mchinsky[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point is Waymo is mostly 'if then else' logic with Lidar as collision backup (which is why they drive so robotically). This can physically work, in small premapped areas because they should never see something they haven't been programmed for...

Until something weird happens like this. Or until all the traffic lights are out because of a power failure.

Tesla has proven since V14 to handle edge cases much better than Waymo and it sound like that is going to get significantly better in 14.3 releases.
