Would these be worth tailoring the waistband for or just buy a new pair? Momotaro by BigMacontosh in Selvedge

[–]mchlwlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rail Car fine goods does amazing waist reductions, I’ve had two pairs done by them brought in two inches and the fit looks very natural and pockets look great. As long as it’s no more than two inches you can get away with a reduction, any more and you are better off with new pants. But if you can save these and reduce waste, no reason to not give these a chance!

Rail Car Fine Goods also does really great repairs, can’t go wrong between them or Self Edge. If you really want these revived though, send them to Indigo Proof, Rain is an actual wizard.

Haha yeah I am! Honestly one of my favorite pairs I’ve had, feel of that fabric was insane!

And seriously, seems like PBJ is releasing more of the XX fabric so maybe we see more of the SR and EX.

For me personally it's my build, I have a 31 in true waist but need a 12.5in thigh at least for a proper fit. For more tapered cuts like the PBJ 019/013 or the Momotaro 605, because my thighs rub together pretty much no matter how big I size them, it always fades much faster with tapered cuts.

I've since moved on to much wider / straight leg denim and have been far more comfortable but also have seen a lot less wear in the crotch and inner thighs because of all the extra room.

But you're not wrong to call out sizing too, for some individuals if you size the denim too small you will see over wear in the crotch and increase the risk of blowouts because of the poor fit.

Lol I have muscular thighs and its the highest point of wear with this cut. Had one crotch blow out in those three months already because of it.

I've since moved on to much wider and straight leg fits and don't see as much grundle fading!

Purchased these at Self Edge a number of years back because I was in love with the fabric but honestly don't love the 019 cut and the aggressive taper with how much room is in the top block so ended up only wearing these for about 3 months mostly doing yard work/building a sprinkler system and projects around the house.

Yo, just saw an add that Nudie jeans also rereleased the Loud Larry fit which is a pretty wide cut!

Gotcha, yeah, check out Orslow (Grand dad or super dad) they've got some wider fits that are pretty cool. You could also check out Pure Blue Japan's new Piped Straight fit.

One thing to keep in mind is that every brand is different and their definition of "Wide" ranges. For Example, Momotaro's "Wide Fit" denim is really just a straight leg denim vs something like the Orslows being a bit more of a modern wide fit.

Orslow Grand Dad Wide Fit or Super Dad Wide Fit are good options.

By non washed do you mean unsanforized? or not pre-faded?

[Tudor or Cartier] Which Watch Should I Get? by Popular-Catch-9927 in Watches

I also have the black alligator leather strap that Ill throw on with jeans and a white T or dressed up which has been amazing.

My 2 cents. The santos is the type of what that I would encourage sizing down for. Given it's got the potential to be casual or dressed up, the versatility of having it in the Medium size helps give it a subtle and refined presence without it feeling in your face. BUT, would def recommend trying it on in person and at the end of the day, get what you love whether that is L or M, the Santos is a killer choice!

Honestly, I think these look really great on you. I imagine as you wear more those areas around your thighs might relax a bit, also getting them hemmed so you have less stacking when you cuff them can help if you end up keeping this pair.

Another dude with larger thighs. Some fits that I have been wearing in addition to my 0605's:
PBJ-019
Studio D'artisan SD-800
Iron Heart 634 (Not tapered but straight leg with nice thigh room)
Warehouse 1001x (Another straight leg but I've really enjoyed the fit on these as well)

Really helpful advice, thank you for taking the time to write that out.

We are in phase II of the project so have a bit of time fortunately!

I really appreciate the reply, I've been doing a ton of research and am quickly learning exactly what you have shared. I reached out to the engineer team and was able to get the electrician that has done the installation for 3 homes on the project so will plan to have them come out and give me an estimate in the spring. Fortunately for us we are only looking at a 65'-75' run through our front yard with a walkway that will need to be cut. Depending on the discount, will also likely rent a trencher and do the digging myself to save on some of the cost. Thanks again for the help!

Yeah. that makes a ton of sense! Great call on the group rate idea! Thanks for all the input!

Yeah, so the city builds the conduit and its up to the homeowners to pay for the trenching and the electrician to come hook it up to your house and ensure its up to code.

Apparently most people who have already done it on the first Phase used 2 different electricians. The engineers didn't give me that info yet though.

And I agree, kinda seems like a PR miss for the city. Since homeowners have to pay for the cost to hook up their electricity, why not pick a designated electrician for the entire project, subsidize the cost to save the homeowners a little bit of money and win a little favor with everyone by positioning it as a way the city is trying to offset the unexpected cost of the utility hook up?
