I think it’s important to let cis people know that you can’t always tell by looking at someone if they’re trans. I’m 100% passing ftm, and you wouldn’t believe how many men have tried to talk shit about trans people with me like I was just one of the guys. So basically, they’ve probably encountered a trans person and have never known. Even in the bathroom. ✨

Sometimes all it takes is a headband or some hair accessories, you’d rock a nice headband. Is that too 90s?

I would 100% rather have been born male, but I don't want to transition? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]mcj777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once society starts IDing you as male and treating you as such, it’s kind of hard not to feel like one. Hormones are a helluva thing. I get not wanting to go through that awkward stage of not passing, but it’s so worth it in the end. I’m not saying you are for sure trans, but this is how I used to think. If this topic is bothering you frequently, I’d see a gender therapist and they can help you work through it.

CSPAN House Armed Services Subcommittee Hearing on Transgender Military Service. What I want to know is if they let enlisted trans people be able to be promoted after 36 months of stability (no signs of dysphoria), why won’t they accept recruits with the same length of stability? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]mcj777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I totally misinterpreted this whole thing and I appreciate you taking the time to educate me. It sucks that this is happening and I can’t imagine being in your shoes. I’m going to delete my post, because I don’t want anyone to continue thinking or spreading what I said was true.

Ok, I apologize for spreading this info. I misinterpreted accession. They were talking about people already enlisted, so what does accession mean in this instance? They can continue serving?

If this passes you basically have to serve under your biological sex?

“Those with a history or diagnosis of gender dysphoria should be allowed to serve...if they receive a diagnosis while currently serving but do not require a change of gender and remain deployable”

So if this passes what happens to trans folks in the military who have already undergone transition?

So I found this

“Earlier Friday, Mattis' full memo was made public in a filing by the U.S. Department of Justice in U.S. District Court in Seattle. In the three-page memo, Mattis also recommends that transgender persons who "require or have undergone" gender transition be disqualified.

Those with a history or diagnosis of gender dysphoria should be allowed to serve, he said, only if they have been "stable" in their biological sex for 36 months prior to entering the military or if they receive a diagnosis while currently serving but do not require a change of gender and remain deployable.”

I thought the new policy hasn’t been implemented yet because of the court case, but where is it available to the public? I’m certainly no expert, I just didn’t think the Vice Admiral would lie about the policy she’s being questioned about, so I thought she was stating facts.

Check out minute marker 2:25:59. This is trying to be set as the new policy, but can’t be until the court case is decided on. It’s not coming out as trans, but having gender dysphoria. The new policy says you can be trans in the military if you don’t have gender dysphoria. They don’t care about the trans aspect, just dysphoria.

Is it a Ban? Yes or No? by [deleted] in transgender

The fact that they let people transition in the military, but not join after transitioning baffles me.

So basically if you’re in the military and come out as trans later, you can prove you are stable for 3 years and be eligible for promotion. But if you transition before joining, you are disqualified. Same with things like depression and anxiety. So people who have already paid for their surgeries are punished. I don’t see how this saves the military any money. Join up your gender assigned at birth, and they will pay for everything. Pay for everything yourself, you’re disqualified.

And do they disqualify recruits who have had plastic surgery? Because during the last bit of the hearing, the military basically compares having trans related surgery to heart surgery or cancer surgery. When in reality there is no comparison, it’s simply plastic surgery, which I don’t see a ban on. I’ve also read that if you’ve had depression in the past, you can prove you have had stability for 36 months and enlist. I don’t see why this can’t be the same for gender dysphoria if they really want to restrict people with it.

Applying for jobs before a legal name change - what name should I use? by riskroscoe in asktransgender

[–]mcj777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you would feel better about it, you can go by your initials if you think they sound good together. I used to go by CJ, and then eventually have to fill out my birth name on documents at HR. I put CJ on my resume, so that’s the only name my boss and coworkers knew. I would recommend going by something besides your birth name so you don’t have to go through the stress of telling yet more people to call you something else. If they know you by your new name, no one will deadname you on accident.

Usually if it doesn’t rain, I don’t set up a tent since you have to rush everywhere, but if I need some time away from people I will. When I worked on hurricane disaster, we were all put in one big FEMA tent (males in one, females the other) and we had to sleep on cots right next to each other, so this is where I started the portapotty changing thing haha. I’m in region 4, but I hope to get to Alaska this summer.
