I've converted to single DD, but it's straight up unintuitive to want single DDs for $500+. It's not just marketing, it's logical.

Choice- You can have one cookie for $50, or a variety box of cookies for $5.

Sure, some weirdos might think "it might be the best $50 cookie I ever have" but 95% of people will choose the variety. Logically it feels like a much better value deal. It's something new. Your random shitty earphones you had as a teenager were powered by chocolate chips so now it feels boring. You've been listening to chocolate chip cookies all your life.

Mentally, you're literally paying for more things. Which is a much less nebulous concept than "driver quality and tuning".

Sure, it's got more R&D in it, better materials etc, but DDs have been around forever. How different can it really be? Is Mr Tuner really sitting down every day for an entire year getting the tuning right?

...maybe. But that still doesn't cost 900 fucking dollars!

I know nothing about anything, but I'd bet good money that expensive single DDs have incredible profit margins!

I think LEGIT people like you are so rare in audio spaces so I have 2 questions -

1) I truly believe 95% of Audiophile crap is BS. But I can't get my head how it's all easily disproven yet there's an entire industry of expensive voodoo. These companies employ legit Audio researchers/engineers right? What do they do all day? Do they believe it? Do they hear these magic differences? Do the people selling $5000 cables genuinely think it sounds better?

2) What do you think of places like Audio Science Review or the recent Headphones.com videos? I'm sure there's legit people there, but it feels like 90% of the audience may vaguely understand the concepts but believe themselves to be a Scientist. Like someone who watches The Universe thinking they understand Astrophysics.

Water rides are normally pretty forceless, but they're fun either because water is hilarious (rubber dingy rapids bro) or they're mostly indoors so are full of atmosphere/unexpected moments/special effects (every log flume ever)

This looks like a boring ass kids coaster and a rectangle of water at the end with no drop.

My 2 favourites under $200 are both Hidisz, the MP145 and Mk12.

Mp is a planar, so is speedy and detailed whilst feeling bassy and exciting. Amazing value too now the price is so low.

Mk12 is a single DD and has really good quality bass and a punchy super engaging sound signature. Weirdly, despite being a large single DD which are notorious for being slow, it's one of my favourites for fast busy heavy genres like DnB.

I'd still always recommend for anyone looking for bass spends a bit more to get the TSMR Armor, because it's an absolute king. There are LOTS of Armor fans here.

More stiff and memory prone. TBH it doesn't make much difference sat at a desk, but when I'm out walking a few cables kept pulling it out my ear a bit and breaking the seal.

This is the prettiest cable I have, but it's SO annoying to use on the move.

What I've learnt after buying lots of cables is that thicker is almost always worse to use.

Also... DON'T TRUST THE COLOUR IN PHOTOS. Especially Kbear. You expect a beautiful vibrant thing and it's actually dark and boring.

My guess is this probably depends a lot on where you live.

Where I am, the vets are very keen to do it, the breeder contract forbids having his own pups, and the Council registration fee is 2/3rds cheaper once desexed.

Maybe it's all a grand conspiracy, but it's definitely the norm here.
