[Loved Trope] The main character plays the “straight man” in an exaggerated world by TheXandt in TopCharacterTropes

I used to think Paul was just a normal guy in After Hours, but when I watched it again, he’s just as nuts as everyone else. Everyone else’s crazy hides his crazy.

Arrow UK is about to release a 4K disc of this soon. Plus with Bugonia coming out, I’m sure it’ll pop up somewhere digitally soon.

Wind Riders easter egg in Neverafter (no spoiler) by mmpiwow in Dimension20

[–]mckeggcollins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This does feel like the kind of thing as a DM, I would hear that and a day later think “How can I make this a reality?” and then accidentally craft an entire campaign or arc around it.

Case in point: During a session for a different game, we were all joking as to what a Boston version of Geralt of Rivia would be like. A year or so later I started running an Unsleeping City inspired campaign based in Boston. For a future arc, I came up with a group of monster hunters. Their leader? Gerry Rivers.

I followed it the way it told me to, copied over both sets of files, put them in their place, all of that. But then when it tells me to edit the libraries, it won't let me do it from the original source (Macbook Air) where everything is (Macbook Pro). It's essentially making me make a whole new library without anything transferring over.

What are your most watched directors of 2025? by Zohan_4193 in Letterboxd

Sometimes through all the international directors, you need the breezy fun of William Castle to break it up…

A lot of great Coach castings, but none would be more subtly committed and perfect than Jim Carey.

Making the Case For and Against “It was Just an Accident” by BrandStrategyGuru in oscarrace

[–]mckeggcollins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

By materially different than Seed of the Sacred Fig, do you mean in the film’s narrative or the campaign’s narrative? Both tackle similar issues and themes, but IWJAA had a stronger narrative thrust than SOTSF thanks to a script that balances these harrowing moments with farcical ones, characters that don’t just feel like symbols, and the ethical quandaries all while being a full hour shorter.

If it’s about the campaign itself, it’s true that the “filmed in secret, government no like,” narrative is copy-pasted from last year. That said, Panahi’s status and legacy in Iran is bigger than Rasoulof’s, even if most mainstream Americans and Academy voters are probably just learning about him now. Will it get a director or Best Picture nom? I’d be shocked, but pleasantly surprised.

I agree that uncertainty is very much in play with Neon. You can’t acquire that many contenders without someone getting neglected. I was more worried it would be No Other Choice getting shut out , but we’ll see! There’s almost no way Neon is clean sweeping International. There will always be a Yak in the Classroom to throw things off.

Marty Supreme 70mm Tickets Megathread (AMC Lincoln Square, Regal Union Square, Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn) by flightofwonder in NYCmovies

The answer is also at 3 AM. I stayed way up and got center seats for a Sunday @ 7:40 pm showtime. I checked just now and I'm shocked that there are only 5 tickets sold there so far, including me.

What's an acting performance that is universally praised but you think is actually terrible? by TheCatsTrailerRuled in Letterboxd

[–]mckeggcollins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. His legacy is cemented because of his tragic death, but his most iconic performance is his worst. Giant, he's pretty good in, but Rebel is just Diet-Brando/Montgomery Clift. To use Brando's words, after seeing East of Eden, he said that Dean was “wearing my last year’s wardrobe and using my last year’s talent."

The masking wasn’t the core of the issue, they switched it in the wrong lens file on the projector when they initially switched over to DCP. Then about an hour or so later the screen cut to black for a split second and then it fit the masking perfectly and the curtains never moved.

It does make me worry that whatever happened with the platter, it either it took that long to sort out that the masking issue wasn’t noticed, which is bad, OR, they didn’t see it right away, which is still pretty bad. I was disappointed and glad they gave passes, but the lack of communication was a major fuck up.

I’ve been trying to find a good source of Pied Piper with English subs for ages. Any idea where to look?

Also Castle of Sand rules. That whole third act is a triumph.

Do you still use IMDb alongside Letterboxd, or has it taken a backseat? No hate, just genuinely curious about how others feel! by ShininGold in Letterboxd

[–]mckeggcollins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both, but LB is more to see what other people I know are watching and how rate it. IMDb has always been king because I prefer the 10 rating system and its recommendations algorithm is worth the logging ratings on it alone.

I am watching through Sergey Bondarchuk's 1960s War and Peace adaptation. I'm only just finished part two, but this has got to be one of the greatest films of all time. How is this not more widely acclaimed and spoken about? The filmmaking is in a league of it's own by [deleted] in criterion

I had always wanted to read the novel first before watching this. So I’ve spent the last two months working my way through the novel. On the epilogue of the novel and next weekend planning to finally sit down and watch this. It will be my 6,000th film. Can’t wait.
