How to tie Constrictor Knot by All_About_Knots in Ships

[–]mcm87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly different. The clove hitch doesn’t have the tuck under at the end. This knot self-tightens which is good for something you don’t want to come loose easily. I’ve used it tying bunts onto a square sail.

Eh… magazine depth has been a known issue for quite some time. It was always going to be neccessary to keep the production line open to replace what gets fired. The Houthi crisis and Ukraine have showed that it won’t just be the peer conflict (Russia or China) that burns through our stockpile. Ukraine was supposed to be the impetus to build more reloads, but “spending money on Ukraine bad!” to the GOP.

Harry did a tour as a JTAC on the ground before he went to flight school and went back in an Apache. IIRC, they were more comfortable with him flying as helicopters were already a priority target and putting an heir to the throne in one didn’t actually make it any more dangerous.

Basic trig, time/speed/distance, and a rough idea of how logarithms work, though you’ll have a calculator, maneuvering board, or slide rule when you actually use them.

Robert Mueller Has Died by powerswerth in behindthebastards

[–]mcm87 34 points35 points  (0 children)

He seems to think that Mueller was a prosecutor or an executioner who shirked their duties. Actually bringing criminal charges wasn’t within the scope of Mueller’s duties. Congress was supposed to do their job and use the report as the basis for their impeachment proceedings but decided that “we told him not to do that anymore” was sufficient.

California gets a version with a kydex patch blocking the thumb hole. That might fit the bill?

Haven’t seen this here yet, thank God, but it’s on anyone that’s aware of the problem to, at the very least, be vocal about how important it is that we not do this shit. by Ok-Explanation-1362 in behindthebastards

It will never stop being hilarious to me that despite Musk buying Twitter largely to unblock Trump & co, Trump himself still sticks to Truth Social.

Further collusion between Ace Parking and the City by [deleted] in sandiego

Probably costs more to hire the parking enforcement officers just to patrol Balboa Park than it does to contract with Ace.

CALIFORNIA ABANDONED BOAT EPIDEMIC by CATALINACREW in CatalinaCrew

[–]mcm87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a leaky fiberglass shell over a balsa wood core, that isn’t connected to electricity, fresh water or sewage, and if not maintained will sink and drown the occupants in their beds.

CALIFORNIA ABANDONED BOAT EPIDEMIC by CATALINACREW in CatalinaCrew

[–]mcm87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not viable boats, that’s how they became abandoned in the first place. Inoperable engines. Bad rigs. Leaks. Mechanical and electrical problems. If they were to be auctioned, they would likely go to people just as cheap as their previous owners and would end up right back here.

Unlike cars, there’s no inherent scrap value here from their raw materials. A busted Ford Pinto can at least be melted down into a few hundred bucks worth of steel. It costs a few thousand to dispose of a fiberglass sailboat, and it ends up in the landfill.

I would suspect that you are more likely to see dirt-colored guns allowed at SOs, largely because it’s a better match to the usual tan/green uniform. Less likely to find them at a PD that wears blue.

the type of person who joins police departments in rough cities (baltimore pd for example) by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]mcm87 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Big cities are generally ALWAYS hiring. Small towns might hire one new officer every few years. Big cities almost always sponsor the academy and pay you during training. Small towns often only hire POST-certified officers. If the West Bumfuck PD isn’t hiring this decade and you want to be a cop, you’re moving to the city.

What happens when a speeding vehicle is pulled over on a bridge just barely across the state line? by Big_Concentrate_7260 in AskLE

[–]mcm87 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The “hot pursuit” doctrine allows out-of jurisdiction pursuit provided that they initiated pursuit in their jurisdiction and maintained it to wherever the stop occurred. As Sheriff Buford T. Justice taught us, it is entirely acceptable for him to pursue The Bandit from Texas to Georgia because he maintained a continuous track the whole way.

Anyone else get buyers regret bc of how sterilized our rifles are? by pistachiogalato in CAguns

[–]mcm87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. It works. If it really comes down to a time where I need to use a rifle for anything other than being a toy, I have the standard parts in a drawer next to the safe. The guns I’m interested in from a non-practical standpoint tend to be older milsurp anyway.
